SAMMY HAGAR Says He Is 'Done With' VAN HALEN
- Apr. 26, 2005
|
|
According to MelodicRock.com, Sammy Hagar was interviewed on St. Louis radio station KSHE-FM Monday (April 25) and spoke about a couple of interesting things. Sammy said he and VAN HALEN drummer Alex Van Halen are great friends and "will remain great friends." He also stated that there is no VAN HALEN activity planned, adding that he was "done with it." In solo news, Sammy stated that he is planning a bigger tour for the WABORITAS in coming months and has built his own studio called Red Rocker Recording Studio. Meanwhile, Hagar has recorded a new song which will be released shortly as an Internet download. The song, "Let Me Take You There", is a cover of a track "I'll Take You There", made famous by the STAPLE SINGERS in the '70s and adapted by the Red Rocker to match his persona. Check out a 90-second sample of the track right at MelodicRock.com.

untill yesterday I worked at steves music in toronto. Steves is one of the bigger instument stores in canada. anyways, our peavey rep came in and told us why peavey dumped van halen on his ass. CRACK eddie does crack. he also believes that he invented magnetic pick-up's. just like how he thought he invented tapping. Come on, they toured in different buses last year and hagar leaving is very indicative of problems beyond alcohol. This doesn't come from me it comes from peaveys ontario product rep.

Sure, there was tapping before Eruption came out. Shit, Brian May taps 2 notes on the Bohemian Rhapsody. But NOBODY and I do repeat NOBODY was doing the superfast triplet/quadruplet arpeggio thing with two handed tapping like Eddie does on Eruption before him. And that's the sound and thing people refer to when they speak about tapping. And I've never heard Eddie claim he invented the idea of tapping, but I do know he's the one who put it (and plenty of other guitar tricks that have ubiquitous since) into real musical context, AND he's entitled to do so. I don't for a second believe you work in a music store, or if you do, it must be the worst and least informed music store in the North American continent.

Now he's just a shadow of himself. I feel sorry for the guy as he is truly one fucked up individual.
Van Halen was a very good band back in the day and yes it all changed once Sammy came alone. Is It Sammy's fault?, I don't think so. Ed always had an ego and yes a drinking problem, however now he has nothing to fall back on as not only has he lost touch with his fans and his friends, even his X wife has had enough of him. It's a sad thing to say, but unless he gets his collective shit together, he might as well just go away.

Seems to me that tapping was used by a few jazz guitarists back in the early/mid-1970's, which pretty much means that instead of BEING on crack you're talking out of it.

Does Alan Holdsworth ring a bell with any of you? He was tapping, pulling , 10 finger tec... ect before Van Halen came out. I know most of you guys are young but if you are going slag you should do some homework. Jeff Berlin and and Chad Wackerman & Holdsworth were the best three peice ever. IOU.
Seeing Holdsworth and EVH jam at GIT was a highlight of my musical experiences. Hendrix, Young, Frehley, May and BB all dabled. EVH brought it to radio first.
I'm wondering. Who gives a fuck when and where it started? A power chord has given rock/metal more contribution than any lead fad.
Ace Frehley made more top player'spick up an axe and learn to play not because he's tec advanced just that what he played could be felt coming from the heart. Is this not the true meaning of Rockand metal.?
Carry on.

Sammy says he's "one with it," which may only be temporary, for the time being, until Eddie cleans up his act.
I surely hope it's not over for VH. The four shows I saw on the tour last summer were all EXCELLENT. I heard many reports of bad shows from others, but they came later in the tour.
DLR returning to the band is about as likely as Britney doing a guest spot with Mastodon on Ozzfest this summer. Sad but true. So if Sammy is really "done" with VH, then Eddie is probably done as well since he has shown no inclination to get off his ass and release his music in any other way than through his band. I, for one, among many, would be pretty disheartened about it. But at least we got one last go-round last year, after 7 years of nothing whatsoever . . .
FUCK.

I dunno if I should be bummed or relieved. I can't decide what's worse, Van Hagar or nothing from Eddie. It is pretty lame Eddie can't either patch it up with Roth or at least release his material as a solo project. Laying on the couch with a bottle of vodka has got to be getting old.
I guess that begs the question, what is more unlikely after 10 years of bullshit: Van Halen solo or Chinese Democracy?

Sammys better off without van hasbeens, St.Louis has a hard on for Hagar because the midwest loves real rocknroll and hates that rap rock shit and gay death metal crap. And yes Ace Frehley was tapping on his geetar back in 1973 in clubs but i'm sure someone else was doing it even before him.

Along with all the pre-Eddie tappers mentioned, I can't believe nobody said Ritchie fucking Blackmore. Check out the promotional (I don't think they were called videos back then) for "Highway Star". If my eyes don't decieve me, Ritchie assumes one of those patented Blackmore poses that Malmsteen is constantly abusing and commences to tap. Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it.
As for Eddie's "Ten albums worth of material"...he was simply talking about guitar parts that he has recorded. Anyone who plays an instrument has plenty of unused playing on tapes lying around.

And jazz doesn't recieve nearly enough credit for the innovations that have occured within the genre. Half of the stuff metal/hard rock people get credited with started in jazz. Tapping? Not Van Halen. Sweeping? Not Malmsteen. Used in 50's jazz to replicate horn lines. Double bass? Not Bonham, not Ginger Baker, not any rock guy...non other than Louie Bellson who is known for his great stuff with Duke Ellington. Just because a person popularizes something doesn't mean they invented it.

I'm with Eddie til death. Even if he died I'd still be thankful he gave us all those great great VH albums (Fair Warning fucking rulles for ever) upto 5150 for me. I give Sammy credit but what I don't like is Sammy filling Roth's shoes grantteed Sam has done some kick ass tunes with VH but the real VH is Roth and Ed. Now I have one question, Where is fucking Alex in all of this Eddie self destruction? because if my brother was doing destructive shit like this I'd be kicking his ass in all sort of ways logically and brutally. I know its hard to stop a grown man from doing what he will but dude Al do something homeboy before we loose Ed. Fuck, again I cannot expresss how much I love Van Halen and Edward Van Halen and I'd never even met him personally.

Sammy rules and dave drools! at least Sammy had a carrer be fore VH. and still does. all roth can say is i used to be in Van Halen. face it he has not made a decent record since shyscraper and that's been what 20yrs. none of his solo stuff can even come close to Sammy's solo stuff since he can't sing or write any decent songs.anybody who says his songs on the first hits cd is better than Sammy's song on that cd is just delusional and must be on roth's payroll. yes the stuff they did with roth was great but it's way over and like roth you need realize it's not 1984 anymore and move on. does anyone realy want to see a balding can't even hit easiset notes anymore roth up there pretending he still has it? well iguess you can check him out a local beer tent this summer then, that is if he is not to busy saving lives in his new job!lol

Eddie will either go down in history as one of the greatest tragedies in rock or the greatest comeback in rock history. And unless he gets his shit together, there won't be a comeback.
I was at the Dimebag Memorial in Arlington and Eddie was drunk off his ass, smoking cigarettes (you beat cancer idiot...learn from it), wouldn't let Zakk get a damn word in about Dime and acted like the whole thing was about him. He is no longer a "guitar god"...he's a drunk asshole who has squandered all of his talent.
I wouldn't be surprised if we never hear from VH again.

It is sad to see EVH go down the tube, but it is happening. I'm not a huge fan but I do give him props for popularizing that style. All we can do now is hope that he fades away with class and style and doesn't end up a sad, strange little man as Ozzy has done. Don't get me wrong, I love Ozzy and all but I would rather have seen him a l;ittle fucked up everynow and then, not every moment caught on tape to releive again and again.
