MEGADETH To Play India Before End Of Year
- May 4, 2005
|
|
|
HindustanTimes.com is reporting that MEGADETH, STEVE VAI and BILLY SHEEHAN are among the musicians that are scheduled to perform in India before the end of the year. "The artists have confirmed their tours around the end of the year and Delhi will certainly be part of the plan for some of these stars. Plans are also underway for rock god Eric Clapton's show early next year," says Cyrus Gorimar, proprietor of Opium, the event management firm that is organizing the concerts.
Joe Satriani is scheduled to play in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore on May 13, 15 and 17 respectively. He’ll be accompanied by acknowledged musicians like Jeff Campetelli on drums, Matt Bissonette on bass and Galen Henson on rhythm guitar.
"We are all very excited, as this is our first time in India. So be there," Satriani told HT City.

you must be oblivious to music for the past 30+ years if you don't know the respect eric clapton deserves. i'm sure all you've heard is tears in heaven or the unplugged album and made you're entire judgement from that. why don't you step away from your metal records for a few seconds and check out other kinds of music. you might actually get a good idea of where metal came from. go back and listen to any sabbath album and seriously tell me that they weren't playing the blues with a hell of a lot more distortion. metal is the offspring of the blues just like every other form of rock. if you're really about the music and not the image you'll be able to see that and appreciate the history and progression of the metal we all love so much.

India has a great culture and their history, unlike many of so called "civilized" countries.
People usually laugh at someone else to compensate for some form of inferiority in themselves as if by putting someone else down it will somehow bring them higher.

Hang on a second mate..pretty offensive that was, i said Eric Clapton aint a rock god!! And you tell me to step away from my metal records before io make a judgement...well, stick this up yer arse...i'm 33years old, played guitar in a blues band for 5years, have got grade8 jazz trumpet and grade 8 classical piano qualifications, have played on 3worldwide selling albums with artists of all types...so please!! I dont mean to sound like a pompous twat, but i think i'm qualified enough to say that Clapton hasn't done anything decent since the 70's and certainly doesn't justify the term 'rock god'. Sorry that i've had to say all this to respond to my statement of opinion!;-)

is more of a Rock God than anyone in Metal (except for Lemmy, of course) and here's a couple of reasons why:
1) he's the first British rock guitar virtuoso-predating Page, Beck, Spedding, the whole bunch of 'em (I'm not counting Hank Marvin, not "rock" enough, more like easy listening) Remember-Clapton was already famous before Hendrix made it to London
2) it's pretty much accepted that he was the first guy to plug a Les Paul into a Marshall amp, thereby creating (and mastering) THE Rock Guitar sound. A couple of years later, with Cream, E.C. was blasting away with an ES 335 (a hollow guitar) and two full 100 watt stacks-and demonstrating total control of this combination- which would be untamable for most players (trust me, I've tried)
3)his influence is at least as far ranging as that of Hendrix-his performance on the Bluesbreakers album alone is often cited as a cornerstone of tone and style by folks including but not limited to: Peter Green, Gary Moore, Billy Gibbons, and some guy called Edward Van Halen. When EVH cites a guy as his "number one" influence, you can bet that guy's pretty good
4) I'll admit that Clapton is a schmaltz monger in the first degree, probably at least as offensive in his in-offenseness as Sting or Michael Bolton. In my book, EC hasn't done anything I'd want to hear since the mid-70's BUT if you want to consider God as being eternal, you'd have to give Clapton credit for a career spanning four-plus decades with no signs of stopping (unfortunately)
5) he was the first guy in rock to be CALLED a Rock God (as far as I can tell) once again, predating all the Johnny-come-lately "rock gods" of the past forty years
Personally, I can take him or leave him, but to dismiss him just indicates a lack of understanding of one's musical heritage. I remember when EVH stated that Clapton was his favorite player (late 70's issue of Guitar Player)-my guitar playing friends and I all sort of went-"huh? the 'Lay down Sally' guy?"
But once we heard the Bluesbreaker album, we knew.

Eric Clapton in the 60's = a godlike player and musician.
Eric Clapton since the 70's = from autopilot-mode through to just sucking. Too bad his early great recordings are too easily forgotten - at least to many -, too easily dismissed because of all the schmaltzy garbage he's done. All his attempts at the blues with all his money and fame and shit, it just doesn't work. You can't do blues in an Armani.
Too bad he lost the spark so early on. The blues greats - Clapton's early idols - kicked ass till they were old men.

about Metallica much anymore . . .
Wise move, since it would definitely detract from all that is Gigantour.
And why would he, when he's traveling the world to places most metal bands never even dream they will reach?
I mean, did Metallica ever play India? Not that they couldn't have if they wanted to, but looks like Dave is making it happen. What a way to go out, if this is his final year in Megadeth . . . (although I believe he won't hang it up).

Clapton IS a Rock god! I'm not sure I understand why everyone thinks he sucks now. Tears in Heaven was great.... not so much because of the song itself, but because of what it was about. His album Pilgrim was also very good IMO. Ridin' With the King with B.B. King was also a kick-ass record... as was the record where he remade classic Delta Blues songs by Robert Johnson. He is an incredible guitarist. If you say he sucks, you either:
1. Have never tried to play the guitar in your life or.. 2. Should be fucking famous
If you are not either of the two, that leaves the third choice:
3. You are a fucking idiot.
