Lauded as the leading contenders of purist doom, Finland's
REVEREND BIZARRE have achieved the seemingly impossible by putting their twenty-one minute, single-track CD,
"Slaves of Satan", into the national Finnish single chart at No. 2!
The Lohja-based trio, consisting of vocalist/bassist
Magister Albert, guitarist
Peter Vicar and drummer
Earl of Void, debuted with the cult
"In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend" album on
Mastervox in 2002. Their first outing on the international stage would be a track included on a free CD inclusion on the
Rockdetector "A-Z of Doom Metal" book.
REVEREND BIZARRE have trod an underground path until very recently, with
Magister Albert's involvement in such bands as
ANAL RAPIST,
PATH CALLED PENIS,
HERVEN AGAL,
ARMANENSCHAFT,
LOHJA SS,
THE CANDLES BURNING BLUE,
WERWOLF LODGE,
THRESHOLD OF YOUR WOMB,
ORNE,
SOIHTU and
SUFFERING SERPENT OF THE LORD.
Earl of Void (as
"Jay Lovely") and
Vicar also operate "bleak progressive metal" band
MESMER. Both
Earl Of Void and
Albert are also active with doom-noisecore endeavour
KLV, which stands for "Kehitysvammaisen Lapsen Vanhemmat."
The band's first compilation was delivered by
PsycheDoomelic Records,
"Slice Of Doom" collecting together demos and rehearsals. Signing to the
Spinefarm label saw a re-issue of the
"In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend" album. This new version added a bonus disc entitled
"Return to the Rectory" of a video and eight audio tracks including a cover of
BARATHRUM's
"Dark Sorceress (Autumn Siege)".
In January of 2005
Albert Magus featured as guest vocalist on
SWALLOW THE SUN's interpretation of the
CANDLEMASS classic
"Solitude".
REVEREND BIZARRE's
"Slave of Satan" includes a recitation of the Black Liturgy by
Daniel Nyman of
OAK. The band releases the full-length
"Crush the Insects" in June.
