SYSTEM OF A DOWN: 'Seasonal Illness' Forces Toronto Cancellation

SYSTEM OF A DOWN are currently on a 10-date "guerrilla club tour" playing small venues and debuting a couple of brand new songs from their forthcoming release, "Mezmerize", Disc One of the 2-disc set "Mezmerize/Hypnotize", due out May 17. Disc Two, "Hypnotize", is expected to be released late this fall.

Although I usually disagree with you, your 100% right with everything you say about SOAD
They aren't political, they write some mediocre songs that vaguely relate to some areas of social problems (interspersed with bullshit lyrics like "bounce, pogo pogo pogo"). The vocalist is atrocious and it pisses me off each time Daron Malakian gets praised as a good guitarist...he really isn't. Plus, for all the poser rebellion they spout the fucking guitarist is driving a hummer!! Wtf is that about? It's nothing more than exploitation...if you make a stand you don't rip your fans out of money to support a lavish lifestyle (see Henry Rollins for lessons in keeping your dignity and your values).
Also, they are Armenians. Fair enough if they criticise the society they live in, it's a right and it's also the correct thing to do. There are injustices that need to be emphasised and addressed. However, spending all their time slamming the US in favour of societies elsewhere in the world that are a million times worse? Do you think you'd be a wealthy musician driving a hummer in Armenia? The Hell you would!!
Lastly, what happened to fan loyalty? Seasonal illness is the poorest excuse for cancelling any gig!! Cancel if your dying, or injured, but having a cold? BULLSHIT!!!
SOAD can fuck off

Was for Field Jameshet, but Mike Teflon is just as right

You have to admit that it doesn't get much more "rebellious" than having a signing at Best Buy. Nothing 'mainstream' about that.

"Do you think you'd be a wealthy musician driving a hummer in Armenia?"
well, actually 3 out of the 4 members don't have much to do with the current day Armenia. Armenia was a different place before the genocide by turks took place.
Serj and john, were born in lebanon and daron was born in the US. Only shavo was born in Armenia. So to serj and john you really should be saying, "Do you think you'd be a wealthy musician driving a hummer in Lebanon?".
daron was born in the US anyway, and shavo, well he came to the US when he was like 3 or 4. so shut the fuck up and get your facts right.

Stop being a jealous crybaby bitch and use some common sense.
If you have the ability to make a good life doing something that you love, and have the ability to take advantage of the current system that you're in(as SOAD is doing), then you'd be an idiot not to take full advantage of it.
I've never heard ANYONE say that SOAD is an "Indie band", and anyone that you heard say that probably needs to be locked up for mental retardation and walrus sodomy. If SOAD wanted to be Indie, like you said, they wouldn't go on SNL and such. They aren't pretending to be Indie, you're just making stupid shit up.
As for a response to the rest of your babbling about "SOAD claiming to be anti-corporate but aren't", read this little clip from an interview and see if you can put 2 and 2 together.
Malakian says this: “There’s a line from one of our old songs ‘War’ that Serj wrote, and his line was ‘You must enter a room to destroy it.’ So when we’re being played on the radio and on television, to me it’s like we’ve entered a room and that’s our way of destroying it. We have more access now and power not to necessarily destroy the powers that be, but to destroy their way of doing things.”
Much more effective than joining a lame Indie label and touring for 100 people per show isn't it?

I know people who love them. However, I just don't get it. Then again, I'm old.

Well, if James can't understand the "you must enter a room to destroy it" logic, I really think everybody should stop trying to debate SOAD's politics with him. Let's just stick to why you like or dislike the music, not whether you like or dislike the makers of the music personally.

I would agree that they shouldn't complain about anything if they're living well....if we were in a COMMUNIST nation. Simply because it wouldn't be legal to complain or question the system. Here in America we have what you would call a DEMOCRACY, and you can stand up for whatever you may believe. If they believe America treated nations in the Middle East unfairly, it is their right to say so. It is completely UN-American to sit back and let the system run without putting in your 2 cents, even if you're wrong.

Come on field, calm down, and think through this logically. You can disagree with SOAD, but don't dog them for speaking their mind. That makes YOU just as much of a hypocrite as them, since free speech is a big part of what our country was founded upon. If you're going to complain about free speech, go make a band and sing about it on major corporate labels, maybe someone would care what you think.
Your racist anti-semite comparison doesn't make much sense, as you would have had to pretend to be racist to be accepted into a racist anti-semite system. In America you have to do no such thing to be accepted, you just have to be here, and have an opinion. SOAD are being themselves, and are free to do so in our country. They aren't "pretending to be American" or whatever the fuck you're talking about.
As for SOAD's chances of actually destroying the system, you're probably right. I seriously doubt they'll cause some kind of revolution and change our country. But they are at least trying, and are making their voice heard. Since you're so hell-bent on dogging the corporate thing, what would you suggest instead for SOAD if they want their voice heard? Maybe they don't have the writing skills to be journalists, maybe they aren't full of shit enough to be politicians, maybe they don't know how to type on blabbermouth.net and set your ass straight. They are working with what they have, and are making a bigger difference than most. It's much better than blindly adhering to something you don't agree with, even if you are rich.....don't you think?
As for the music part, you obviously just don't like them there. So whatever works for you, but I know i'll be buying both of them, and i'll enjoy every second of it. What you call "whoring to the system", I call "taking advantage of the system." But if you think about it, they probably lose more fans talking about politics than they gain. If they were really "whoring to the system", they'd listen to the record company and drop the political schtick and just do their normal silly stuff. People would eat it up anyway.
I'm done for now fieldy, grow a brain while i'm gone.

Yes, by the way: If your not a soldier or living in harsh, inaccesable terrian or in need of armoured transport for security then you own a hummer purely for posing...
They aren't exactely designed for practical transport, economy or conservative looks, are they?

Okay, so maybe they're willing to sacrifice some of their business rights in order to more effectively deliver their message. Hypocritical? Somewhat. When it comes down to it though, everyone is. Do you think it's stupid to argue over the internet via message board for hours? Chances are, you do. But you're doing it anyway.
As for the CD's, I think it's stupid that they're doing 2 35 minute albums as well, but honestly it's only $15. Big whoop. Record companies are getting whatever the fuck they can since all the illegal dloading is still going. It's a smart business decision, you'd probably do the same thing in their position.
I'll stop arguing with you because I actually like you, that Mustaine/Dissection thread is hilarious.
