SYSTEM OF A DOWN Frontman Collaborating With Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist

According to RollingStone.com, SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian has been working on a CD for Buckethead, the masked, experimental funk guitarist best known for playing in the doomed incarnation of GUNS N' ROSES. Buckethead sent Serj a handful of instrumentals, which Serj has fleshed out with a variety of different vocalists, including the poet Saul Williams and a female neighbor who sings opera. No further information is currently available.

its really ridiculour referring to anyone who has drifted in and out of axl's tribute band as an 'ex-gnr member.' just call hin buckethead. oh wait. that would have ruined the suspense. anyway, whatever. anyone else feel that way? anyway, like most 'supergroups', this collab will probably suck. i mean, could that new audioslave single be any worse? it sounds like some high schoolers trying to play the slow single from the first album cold and from memory.

Is it actually possible that there are people here calling Buckethead talentless at the expense of Serj "can't sing" Tanakian? Buckethead is an underrated virtuoso, with a fresh take on guitar playing. He brings weird sci-fi influences in and the results are amazing. If your so braindead that you can't appreciate that and have to run to the comfort of a SOAD member for "amazing" music then you aren't even human. Also, his KFC bucket may be a gimmick, but it wasn't invented for G'n'R, it's how the guy has operated his whole career. Plus, the freaky alien image beats the dork/nerd guitarist image that most other guitarists seem to prefer (Kirk Hammett, Joe Satriani, EVH etc).
I agree that Buckethead shouldn't be labelled an "ex-GnR" guitarist...all of his original parts were scrapped/re-recorded and a few live shows don't justify equal status in the band's history to Slash. What's with the "doomed incarnation" label? That's slightly opinionated to say the least...as far as I'm aware the new incarnation still exists, and until it is officially scraped shouldn't be labelled "doomed" or failed or anything else like that. Plus, Robin Finck is still there, so they still have a gifted lead guitarist in the band.
Anyway, Serj Tanakian SUCKS!!!!!!

What makes you say that Tankian sucks? Granted he's a nu-metal singer, but go listen to 'Streamline' before you bash him - that guy can sing, his voice just soars over the choir he is with.
It's an individual voice too, you will be able to pick him out, and that's what I value anyway - rather than being the generic 'screamy' crap that means you can't tell one band from another.

I saw Buckethead play solo a couple of months ago and he BLEW THE PLACE AWAY!!! It was awesome! to team up with Serj is great news. I think their experimental angle will work well together. What's more, I think Saul Williams is one of the best spoken word artists around. This should be a GREAT project. All you haters are lame.

And yes, go twink yourself if you don't acknowledge Serj's great vocalist qualities...if you don't see what a great singer he is, then you've only heard the mtv hits. He's extremely talented...sure people might not like his music..but he's still an amazing vocalist.

Buckethead is also a good guitarplayer...but there are many like him..so he better be making something good music...the music is all that really matters. Of course...but sure...more bush bashing would be nice too..muha!

Just because I like Slayer does not mean that I thereby judge everyone else by their standards. Personally, I think that Sebastian Bach has the best fucking voice around today, but also that Tankian can, and does, sing exceedingly well.
And surely, if it is all a matter of opinion, why are all these people therefore attacking these artists and the people who enjoy listening to them?
I suppose Blabbermouth would become a very boring place if we did just agree it is all a matter of opinion....

a. serj tankien is armenian, not a turk. you couldn't have made a bigger mistake: the turks slaughtered aremanians at the start of the 20th century.
b. the fact that you and most other people know buckethead cause he has a kfc bucket on his head doesn't show anything about him, it shows everything about you and most other people. i didn't even see buckethead for a long time after i started listening to his music and i could care less about the way he looks, he's an amazing, innovative musician, and the mass media and market can't stomach someone who basically does whatever the fuck he wants.

I didn't say anything political, I was just correcting the other dude as to Serj Tankenian being a "turk" - if the guy puts some much emphasis on where that singer is from, than he should at least be correct about his native land. On a side note, from the little of S.O.A.D I've heard, I really dislike them.
I have a lot to say about Buckethead, but you obviously add things that don't exist in your responses (like your bullshit political talk, which I didn't talk about), and I really don't mind if idiots don't listen to the brilliance that is Buckethead :)

Anyway this should be worth listening to, two artists who definitely broke the mold, whether you like them or not. If you only know Buckethead because he has a bucket on his head, you're the one getting all hot and bothered over image. Everyone throwing hate at Serj just don't have a System thread to dump it on, face it you're judging an individual on whether you like his band that's made up of three other individuals.

I can't believe the bullshit some people are writing in this thread. It is blatently obvious that the people who are slating Buckethead are people that have never actually listened to any of his solo albums. If you had listened to his albums you would actually notice that hes an amazing guitarist, having been taught by Paul Gilbert (a well known guitar virtuoso in his own rights).
And as for the comments about sporting the KFC bucket to get noticed commercially? If you actually care to look back in his career, of which has spanned many many years.. you'd know that Buckethead was a very highly regarded guitarist when he wasn't wearing the Bucket.
It really annoys me that people are so narrow minded and form an opinion of him just because he wears a KFC bucket, especially as this is coming from a generation of Slipknot and Mudvayne fans.
Buckethead has made over 40 albums and has done collaberations with many artists. You don't have to like or listen to his music but showing a little respect for what he's acheived over the years wouldn't go amiss.
Anyway, I am looking forward to this collaberation with Serj. It should be rather interesting.

It relieves me to hear that somebody out there can post something with decent grammar & intelligence, without racial slurs, stupid opinions on politics, and without immature name calling to complete strangers who post on this thing just to start shit with other people because they obviously have no life! So many foolish and stupid comments that it's no wonder that metal music fans and the like get a bad reputation for being idiots! Talking shit about bands & saying they "suck", or are talentless just because you may not care for their style is just plain LAME. If you love music, you can appreciate ALL forms of it, even those you wouldn't necessarily listen to. Buckethead rocks & is extremely talented-period.
