Former HEATHEN Bassist MIKE 'YAZ' JASTREMSKI Passes Away - May 23, 2005
Former HEATHEN bassist Mike "Yaz" Jastremski passed away this morning (May 23). No further information is currently available.

Jastremski performed on HEATHEN's classic 1987 debut "Breaking the Silence" before leaving the group a short time later to form PIGS. He eventually rejoined HEATHEN in time for their appearance at the August 2001 Thrash of the Titans benefit concert for TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy.

HEATHEN parted ways with Jastremski in June 2004 over what was rumored at the time to be Yaz's "continued drug and drinking problems." He was replaced in the group by Jon Torres, who had previously participated in such bands as THUNDERHEAD, WARNING SF, ULYSSES SIREN, LAAZ ROCKIT and ANGEL WITCH.

HEATHEN guitarist Lee Altus said at the time of Yaz's final departure from the band, "We're sorry to see [Yaz] go and wish him all the best. He is a good friend and I'm glad that we parted ways without any animosity and can still remain best of friends."

Yas was also in the Bay area band Griffin.
He played on their debut LP "Flight Of The Griffin". released in 1984 by Shrapnel records.

What the hell is with the sudden rash of corpses?

Best wishes to his family, friends and all others close to him.

Hopefully he didn't suffer and is in a better place now.

As you guys said, way too much people from the golden era of Metal is leaving us.

Heathen were a crushing band, Breaking the Silence is one motherfucker of an album...great riffing, cool vocals, powerful rhytmns..

Another sad day for Metal

Guess what? People die.
Why the same "shocked" responses evertime a death in metal is posted?
There are so many people in this world, of course there is gonna be deaths all the time. Get used to it and get over, because the older you get the more frequent people will die that you know.
It's the way it is, kiddies.

This is just fucking WRONG. It seems now that Heathen are on the verge of resurrecting actual thrash, someone is trying to put an end to any and all involved with such things such as David Wayne and Yaz. Griffin was a damn great band too. This just makes no sense.

Wow, thanks for those insights. I'm really glad you had such a revelation to share with the rest of us.

I guess we should stop having funerals and reporting deaths, since they are a common everyday occurance not worth mentioning. And thanks to your brilliant deductions, we should be content with increasing death rates as we get older, because it's just the way things are. Come to think of it, we should stop celebrating birthdays for the same reason. Also, the hell with New Year's... can't expect any surprises with that, now can you?

I am a long time very close personal friend of Michael's...he will be truly missed, as any friend would to any close to them.

Bottleslap youre attitude sucks. You may right as far as frequency of these events as we get older but shut the fuck up with negative vibes already. Some of us have grown up and matured and truly appreciate life, friendship and brotherhood, maybe you have not.

To another comment, yes the life we LED (in most cases) was brutal and Mikey has paid the ultimate price for that time in his life, BUT, I can say that he enjoyed his life more than most people can even imagine let alone ever come close to...I will personally miss our trips to the beach, his genuine smile and that snarl he had when he was on stage or imitating Clint "Dirty Harry" Eastwood.

You are loved by many.

God Bless and RIP my Friend and Brother.
