VOIVOD: Songwriting For New Album Complete; First DVD Release Coming Soon - May 30, 2005
VOIVOD drummer Away (a.k.a. Michel Langevin) has posted the following message on the group's official web site:

"We are finally done with the writing of the album.

"The songs have a bit of an eerie vibe, with experimental vocals by Snake, spiralling solos by Piggy and heaviness courtesy of Jasonic!

"All the '80s archives have been transfered to beta and sent to Eclectic DVD for our first DVD release.

"I'd like to thank MusiquePlus, Ed Seaman, Jean-Francois Labrecque, Jeff Wagner and Ronald Mc Gregor for their contribution.

"I'm still in the process of scanning hundreds of drawings for my book, to be released on Troubleman Unlimited.

"All this work will result in a barrage of Voivodian material coming out in the next months.

"Thanks again for your patience.

"P.S.: In the latest issue of Metal Hammer U.K.: A three-page story about the making of 'Dimension Hatross', by our longtime friend Malcolm Dome. This album was crucial in the sense that Harris Johns, producer/sound experimentalist introduced me to the Akai S-9000 sampler and the Roland Octapad. Suddenly my range of spooky sounds was much wider. Some of these noises can be heard on 'Tribal Convictions' and 'Brain Scan', among others. Piggy also told me that he learned from Harris some very inventive ways to use his own multi-effects processor, which also expanded his possibilities. Much credit goes to Harris Johns for the industrial metal revolution!"

Wow. I can't believe newsted is doing another album with them. I didn't think he was gonna really commit. I didn't think he had the attention span for it at this point in his career. Good for him.

its good to see he's stuck to voivod.. he actually plays bass really well in that band, not so contricted and you can tell metallica told him what and how to play his bass while in the band, because on that voivod album he rips loose.

have you heard the re-release of War & Pain with the extra CD of live tracks? They are HORRIBLE. It's like a really bad bootleg, someone with a mic in their ass in the back of the venue.

I'll never buy anything from them again.

Good to hear that they've got the songs ready. Away's description makes me really excited about the new Voivod album. Hopefully they'll hit the studio soon.

BNR metal pages - a good website btw.

Check out Killing Technology and Dimension Hatröss, classic Voivod albums. Tribal Convictions may be their biggest "hit", I still have very fond memories of that trippy video being played on some TV metal shows back in the late 80ies.

Their last album was rock solid in my opinion. Not a Dimension Hatröss or Nothingface but a good spacy rock record heavily influenced by those and the successing albums. Gasmask Revival and especially Strange And Ironic are classics.

Jason Newsted rules IMO. Leaving the mess that is "'tallica" for a metal band that defines the terms cult and innovation! I never understood why so many metal fans were unable to figure out Jason's approach after he left "'tallica". Voivod was his number one band from that day on and the other projects like Echobrain and Ozzy were just that, projects as a bonus with Voivod being his main priority.

Can't wait for the new album, produced by Glen Robinson - Nothingface!

Truly one of the greatest experimental thrash acts that manages to be innovating without losing their credibility, like so many bad experiments gone wrong (Sepultura's Roots, I'm looking your way).

Can't wait for the new album...

I remember watching for the first time Tribal Convictions on Musiqueplus in 1988. It changed my life forever.

Unfortunatly this country(canada) has not observed Voivod as musical icons. a true tragedy. I must thank the fans from around the world that helped make Voivod who they are today.

As a fan for many years, i found it absolutly disgusting that canada has not embraced these legends

Snake Piggy Away and Jasonic you have my deep respect and Muchmusic STOP!!! sucking Cock to the major labels and follow your heart, you know whats right, I hope?

Away is getting his book published. Right the fuck on!

This band is genius. Anyone with a discerning ear can hear Voivod influences throughout metal. Let's hope the new album is better than the last though. Overall it sucked. But with Robinson at the helm and going by Away's early description of the new album's vibe, I'm very encouraged.

I like how everyone has so far ignored the trolls in this thread...

The "War and Pain" cd, as well as the bonus cds, were all recorded very cheaply, way back in the early '80's. The extra stuff on the bonus cds IS bootleg material, poipoipoi. It's not like this is some huge secret. It's a special release for the diehard fans, and everyone knows that the "War and Pain' cd was recorded cheaply and quickly, and done when the band were very much still novices. Do not judge the rest of their catalog or their worth as a band by this cd release alone. Back in the day you were lucky if you could get even a shitty bootleg in your hands, much less a 3 disc package full of stuff for under $20, so stop fucking complaining. Oh wait, its Blabbermouth, everyone complains and whines, I forgot...
