OPETH Announce New Album Title
- June 1, 2005
|
|
Sweden's OPETH have set "Ghost Reveries" as the title of their new album, tentatively due late summer via Roadrunner Records. The follow-up to 2003's acoustic masterpiece, "Damnation", and OPETH's first disc in years without producer Steve Wilson, the album will include the following tracks, among others: "Ghost of Perdition", "The Baying of the Hounds" and "Isolation Years". OPETH will be embarking on the "Sounds of the Underground" tour in the U.S. beginning in late June. A European headlining tour will follow in September. A complete list of currently confirmed tour dates can be found at Opeth.com.

Now I can get the Nickelback/Opeth tour I always dreamed about!!!!
"Basically I got fucked, that's the best way to put it, with Symbolic. Roadrunner had a totally disillusioned idea of what metal is. And that's why Symbolic wasn't pushed. That's not their idea of metal, their idea of metal is Coal Chamber and Korn. Symbolic basically got shove to the side and that's why metal in America has been screwed because of choices made by bigger labels deciding what metal is suppose to be about.
I got shoved to the side and you know what I could have said, "fuck all of this and I'm quitting, but I didn't. I think the album(Sound of Persev..)'s a perfect example of, you know, coming back saying whatever. I'm not gonna let people discourage me.
Eventually Roadrunner are going to jump back on the heavy metal bandwagon and it's gonne be cute, it's gonna be really sickening to see a label jump right back on what they got big from, but basically what they've turned their backs on in the process."

Damnation was not an acoustic masterpiece because most of the songs weren't even acoustic. Watch their live DVD; both Mikael and Peter play electrics on most of the songs, and occasionally they'll use an acoustic, but when a solo comes up, they're all electric guitars.

A while back Opeth put on a contest onthe BB asking for people to draw a picture of the band and the winner would be the new cover art. The pic while "Opethesque" is probably a hoax.

Hey, Jasshole...I mean, Jasco - here's an idea for you....
When you see a story about a band you need make a decision. Think to yourself "hmmmm...do I like this band or not?" Then think about an answer to that question. Should the answer be "yes, I think I like that band" then feel free to read the story and post something about it. On the other hand, should that answer be "no, I don't think I like that band" you can skip over reading the article and doing a post.
This way, we don't have to read stupid ignorant posts like yours that really serve no purpose other than verify your immaturity. If you have any questions or if this is too much for you, then feel free to print this and keep it as a handy guide to common courtesy on message boards. Cool?
But I digress, accoustic or electric guitars aside (in a live setting anyway), Opeth is easily one of the better metal bands out there - I'm sure the new disc will not disappoint.

I really couldn't get into Damnation, and Deliverance wasn't really too good, either. I hope they will make an album more like Your Arms..., Still Life or Blackwater Park. If they have grown beyond that, well, no problem (I won't buy the album) but I do hope for a step back a bit.

I'm a die hard Opeth fan, so I would buy it even if it was just them farting on a mic.
But, the essence of Opeth has always been an everchanging musical entity. They've already mixed all types of music together with brilliant outcomes. I mean, the only thing they have to mix in now is country and polka, and I'm sure they would make that sound awesome too.
The reason why Opeth has been great is because they were experimental from the start. They didn't just play one type of music for years and then start throwing in clean vocals, keyboards, and acoustic guitars. The one thing about them that you always read in reviews is how hard they are to pin point into a category, which in my opinion makes them great.
Look at it this way to, if it sucks, we still have 7 albums of awesome music to rock out to.
But I really don't think we have to worry about that. These guys are the shit!

The album art's obviously fake, given the standard of artwork since they've started using the services of Travis Smith (Still Life onwards). With any luck he'll do the art for this album too - The guy's fucking amazing.
I haven't got a doubt in my mind that this album'll be one of - If not THE best albums of the year. I can't wait.

the picture drawing of the band will not be for the cover. probably liner notes graphics.
I HOPE!
doesnt make much sense to put out a blackmetal-esque album with a drawing of the band on the cover (70's hippiesque vibe)

I like the title, reverie means more than just daydreaming too.
And...even though i love opeth, if you hate them, you can still post that too. Let people post whatever they want.
Deth, you need to ask yourself a question. That question is "Do i respond or not respond to this post" ...you can, but don't have to. Same goes for anyone on this board, its called freedom, thats whats so great about the net.

Ages ago? Ripped off bands are ripped off bands. And a lot of that is pretty true prophesy.
How's this for some interesting info, want to know why the 2 guitarists in 3 Inches of Blood quit? Not because of their skills, and the fact every song on the album was musicially written by them, it was because Roadrunner wanted them to change their image and that didnt set well with them. I actually know them too, nice guys.

Well, they were both pretty much written and recorded in the span of 2 months. Not to mention all the distress and shit they had to go through while recording them.Opeth said that they will never record an album in that fashion again. They were both pheonominal(sp?) albums but lacked a little something that i9s present on their other ones.Still, they are both better albums than the best albums by many bands. They've been rehearsing this new album since a couple months before they went into the studio. They havent rehearsed an album since "My Arms, Your Hearse".I dont expect it to sound like it, but I certainly hope its as good.
OPETH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
