QUEEN & PAUL RODGERS Prepping CD/DVD Package - June 2, 2005
Launch Radio Networks reports: A live CD and DVD from the European shows that QUEEN & PAUL RODGERS finished last month is on tap for later this year. The band recorded every concert they played, but they only shot one in its entirety, on May 9 in Sheffield, England. Work has begun on listening back to the tapes, which should lead to a live album with the best performances from the tour, and a version of QUEEN's "Fat Bottomed Girls" might come out as a single. No release date has been announced, but the package is expected for later this year.

Rodgers told Launch that he approaches music from a completely different place than the late Freddie Mercury did. "He's classically trained, whereas I come out from blues and soul," Rodgers said. "Our writing styles are different. I tend to go for a very simple lyric with lots of space, he went for quite a wordy approach — not to say that either one is better or worse, it's just different."

No-one should ever try to write Freddy out of the Queen legacy, and that's how this feels!! If they wanted to carry Queen forward the band should've recruited someone suitable at the time of Freddy's death (maybe using the tribute show as an audition) or they should've played reunion dates with a selection of respected musicians.

This is not Queen. This is Brian May, Roger Deacon, and whatever the fuck their drummer's name is with some other schmuck.

This is like Iron Maiden without Steve Harris, Thin Lizzy without Phil Lynott (wait, that happened?), Motörhead without Lemmy....or, for a real example- Led Zeppelin without Bonzo.

LAME.

You say "This is not Queen blah blah" acting like the average disgusted fan...and then you don't even know that their drummer is Roger Taylor. John Deacon was the bass player.
Lame.

COMMENT | Yeah I agree!!

Change the name and let Freddie Rest In Peace.

Queen was a great band and Mr. Mercury was a fantasic singer. Let those memories stay the way they are. Nobody can replace Freddie and no one should ever be allowed that chance.

I can understand Brian and Rogers desire to keep playing and I do respect that. However with no Freddie and no John Deacon it is not Queen.

Keep Paul and release some new material under a different name and if it's good, people will pick it up.

COMMENT | QUEEN = ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS EVER

I just think that they are milking the Queen a bit too much. I know they need the money but come on, 15 live and GH albums later it's getting embarrasing. I've got nothing against Rodgers, but it's like replacing Pavarotti with Shane McGowan - It's just not the same.

I can understand that replacing Freddie is difficult but how they can call it Queen as Fred's gone and John Deacon doesnt want any part of it.
It would of ment something if John was there too.

COMMENT | Yeah i'll buy both releases myself
