Manager: DROWNING POOL Have New Singer Lined Up
- June 14, 2005
|
|
DROWNING POOL have officially confirmed the departure of vocalist Jason "Gong" Jones less than two years after officially bringing him into the band (as first reported here yesterday). Jones apparently exited the group over the weekend, forcing the cancellation of a June 12 hometown show in Dallas, Texas. DROWNING POOL bassist Stevie Benton wrote in an online posting, "I'm sorry to all of you who were coming out to the Dallas show. It sucked to have to cancel on the hometown but it's for the best." Manager Paul Bassman told Launch Radio Networks that while DROWNING POOL was "very proud" of the album the band made with Jones, 2004's "Desensitized", the relationship with the vocalist "just didn't work out." Bassman added that DROWNING POOL already has another frontman lined up, with the announcement of his name coming shortly. Bassman said the new singer was "really good" and someone the band had wanted when they first set out to replace original vocalist Dave Williams nearly two years ago. Williams was found dead on DROWNING POOL's tour bus in August of 2002 while the group was on the road with that summer's Ozzfest. An autopsy revealed that Williams died from cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disease for which he was never diagnosed. A lengthy search led the surviving members to Jones, who had previously tried out for Brazilian metal act SEPULTURA and had worked on various projects with members of WHITE ZOMBIE, FEAR FACTORY and others. His one album with DROWNING POOL, "Desensitized", arrived in April of 2004, with the quartet spending most of the last year touring in support of the record. DROWNING POOL plans to begin writing its third album in the next few weeks and will start recording as soon as it has enough material, according to Bassman.

I actually enjoyed him in Drowning Pool more than Dave Williams. Met them both, they were both really cool. I heard Jason Jones has had problems with drugs, just rumors, and maybe that's what led to his departure. You never know...
However I think Lachman might be the addition, but then again I think his vocals are too powerful for Drowning Pool.

Was my guess yesterday too. What with Damageplan basically done, he would be a good fit for this band. I think he would be a better replacement than this last guy was. May even bring the band to a better level.

Brian00, that's funny u say that cause that's the inside rumor that's been going around for the past 2 or 3 months that Ryan might be the new singer. I know for a fact he's good friends with them. Just a rumor.

Being from the same area as Drowning Pool and knowing some of the people related to the band, it's highly amusing to see you guys sitting her blabbing about it being someone from an already well established band. Well it's not going to be anyone you've ever heard of. My money is on Brandan Narrell from a Denton Texas band called Advent.

I Can't choose between which would be better. When I heard that Jones had left DP, I immediately thought of Pat, or Ryan. Redefined is an awesome SOiL album, and so is New Found Power, for DamagePlan. But sorry, noone can replace Dave.

I didn't really care for Jason anyway. Aside from "Step Up" Desensitized sucked. It was nowhere near as heavy as Dave's album Sinner and musically sounded rushed. They could have done WAY better. As far as new guys, Ryan would be cool but i would have ratherd he stayed in Soil and Pat should keep Damageplan going. I might be hard at first but i think Dimebag would have wanted it that way.

First Dimebag, then he'll join a band where their first frontMAN died, and it's just a matter of time before Halford dies of AIDS.

You guys can tell me to shut the fuck up all you want. Its not going to be the guy from Soil, it's not going to be Pat Lachman. It's going to be someone that's relatively unknown. They said it was someone that was considered for the job the first time around after Dave's death. Brandan Narrell almost got it (i know this guy) the first time around but the band was so shocked because he looks like and almost sounds just like Dave Williams. Narrell also tried out for Damageplan. And I talk to this guy so Im not trying to blow smoke up your ass here. I'm not saying its a for sure thing, but 70% its Brandan Narrell. He came from a local band called Carb, they split and formed Advent and FAKTION. Faktion is now on Roadrunner Records. He's an awesome vocalist.

In my mind, it's not going to be anyone that's released on these boards. I have an akward feeling that it will be someone that we least expect, but will somehow mesh perfectly.

Ryan McCombs lives in my town and is original from here anyway. Right now McCombs is lending a hand in developing a new concert/skateboard plex kind of thing in our county seat, Portland, Indiana, called "Xplex." In fact he gave an interview to a somewhat big newspaper near me in which he is getting some bands to play there, including some various music fests and so on. Here's the thing, the very first band that just played there back in Mid May was.... you guessed it: Drowning Pool.
And he got them in about a couple to a few weeks notice I believe to help open up the concert field deal.

COMMENT | Information On New DP Lead Singer & Jason's Departure
posted by : 6/25/2005 5:33:22 PM

The best I know from the band's official site, is that most info points to the fact that Ryan McCombs will be taking the spot, but it hasn't been fully announced yet. Reasons for Jason losing the spotlight have been two stories. One, his affair with the ex-girlfriend of Creed's former manager (her name is unknown) was sour for the band. Supposedly, she was giving Jason ideas that he should be getting most of the money that the band made, &, she was saying stuff towards the 3 other band members. Eventually, the band was separating from Jason & his girlfriend, but still doing their music. The separation was done by sending C.J., Stevie, & Mike on a different plane or bus to the next location for a show. As for Jason during this, he wasn't showing up to practices, & just barely showing up on time for the live show. So, the band for now has cancelled the rest of their tour dates, but hopes to finish them when they get their new lead singer.
