DREAM THEATER's 'Octavarium' Enters BILLBOARD Chart At No. 36
- June 15, 2005
|
|
DREAM THEATER's "Octavarium" has sold 26,781 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 36 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart. "Octavarium" is the follow-up to 2003's "Train of Thought", which has shifted 123,086 units in the U.S. to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. DREAM THEATER began writing and recording their latest album last November at the Hit Factory studios in New York City. The CD will hold the distinction of being the very last album ever recorded at the world-famous recording facility, which recently closed its doors. DREAM THEATER are currently touring Europe in support of "Octavarium". The band will co-headline this summer's Gigantour, a six-week North American festival trek also featuring MEGADETH, FEAR FACTORY, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and NEVERMORE, among others. Check out 85 pictures of DREAM THEATER performing in Budapest, Hungary on Tuesday, June 14 at HardRock.hu.

There are a couple really good songs on this CD but overall, I think it is a very weak CD.

I have the new Dream Theater and the New James LaBrie CD, and I find that I'm listening to James solo CD a lot more than the new DT cd.
His solo Cd reminds me a lot of early DT stuff. I still like the New DT cd, just like James solo CD better.

It's too technical and talented for radio.....
Congrats for the good rates, guys.
ABOUT THE MP3 (see link above), it's funny, yes. Insulting too--mixing with Linkin Park... Don't kid yourselves; some song structures are the same... Oh well.
PS: for those who are really into death and hardcore, forget about this album (or band), but if you have any bit of an open mind, try it, it's full of vitamins.
I really liked the first song on "Inner Turbulence" and the whole TOT album, cause it's nice and heavier...
Live in Budokan DVD is really inspiring and fucking hot. If you loved TOT, don't miss it.

Cause if you look closely, the last song is 25min, so...
It's like... y'know... fucking cool, I say. Panic Attack is a good song I think, except the vocals...

Aside from two tracks, a very solid album that shows the band continuing to grow yet remain the same at it's core. Too many bands don't try to branch out and combine different styles or moods into their sound while retaining the reason fans like them in the first place. DT excel at keeping their home base intact while trying and exploring as many different avenues and moods as possible.
It's not the heaviest or catchiest album from them, but who wants a clone album of a previous release?
Buy it!

It's sold decently but how many of those people were completly dissapointed by it? I was heartbroken when I heard it, from songs that go nowhere to ballads that sound contrived to that song that 25 min song where nothing happens till lhalf way through.
This is so not the band that wrote Erotomania.

It's not a bad record. Root of all Evil, These Walls and Octavarium are the best songs on the album. But I liked the heavy sound they had on Train of Thought. It was different and fucking awesome. Octavarium for me was a step backwards. Still good, but not what I expected.

but this album put me to sleep. Train Of Thought kicked my nuts in the dirt, but this one was too mellow and long winded. I'm curious about the LaBrie CD now...
But it is pretty fucking cool to know that people in the United States still dig good fucking music whether the CD was lameish or not. It's nice to see that not everyone is listening to Chingy or the rapper/chord rock band of the month.

As a long time DT fan I'm seriously disappointed with the new album. I ignored the rantings on Blabbermouth before it's release but based on previous albums bought it when it came out. The ballads kick in too early and it goes nowhere.
As for James LaBrie, fuck Dream Theater cos this album is immense. Freed of Portnoy's prog trappings this album showcases LaBrie's talents to the max. I downloaded it and then bought it, so avoid "Octavarium" and get "Elements..." instead.

Over all the I thought the album was excellent. Though they've tried to be so prog in the past that some of the stuff comes off as fairly run of the mill. There's some classic DT stuff on this album though and I think it's Jame's best work to date. They take the time to build and delvelope the songs that go from acoustic to classic power ballads to some seriously technical material. I wish they would come to Vancouver!!!

Train of Thought had a lower chart debut and so did Scenes From A Memory, and their better records.
But 6 Degrees of Terminal Gayness and 8VM debut higher?
There are no singles to speak of on this album. Not even video!

This is a great album, very diverse and progressive. Not surprised many on this board have no appreciation for it. It's got a couple of songs that I'm not crazy about (The Answer Lies Within, I Walk Beside You), but the rest of the album is phenomenal. The Root of all Evil, Panic Attack, Never Enough, and Sacrificed Sons are all very heavy. Octavarium (the song) is an extremely creative and exciting epic. Give it a few spins, people.
