Former CARCASS Frontman Rejects Reunion Rumors
- June 22, 2005
|
|
Former CARCASS frontman Jeff Walker has contacted BLABBERMOUTH.NET to refute a rumor that the much-missed Liverpool, U.K.-based gore-grind pioneers may be reuniting for a possible tour. A June 22, 2005 posting on the Earache Records-affiliated web site www.metaltracks.com indicated that Walker, along with former CARCASS guitarist Bill Steer and ex- AT THE GATES drummer Adrian Erlandsson, hinted at the recent Metal Hammer Awards in London that the two bands are considering reforming and going on tour together in the near future. In an e-mail sent to BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Walker said, "For the record, Bill Steer wasn't even at the Metal Hammer awards and I didn't speak to Adrian that night! I'd find the whole matter hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that the rumor is probably gonna put a few people's noses out of joint..." As previously reported, THE HAUNTED bassist Jonas Björler told BLABBERMOUTH.NET earlier today that the rumors of a possible reunion of his former band, legendary Swedish thrashers AT THE GATES, were "untrue."

I still think both reunions are on. Look how quickly they were denied. That never happens... usually the rumor mill is allowed to brew... they are obviously trying to sabotage the rumor mill, as they want to save the announcement of the CARCASS/At The Gates tour for a later date when it's closer to the tour starting.
I can dream, anyway... :)

I saw Carcass headline in 1994...last night of the Heartwork US tour in Minneapolis and I also saw At The Gates support Napalm Death in 1995, also in Minneapolis. A month after that show, ATG broke up. And as I recall, Carcass and ATG weren't very fond of each other back in the day so I doubt this tour would even happen unless they've since patched things up. Still, I'd go see it if it DID happen!!!

I got Two Words for you all ......... Judas Priest!
There were about 30 news items on this site about Judas Priest & Halford reuniting, Both camps said never, nowhere, no how no way. In reality Rob & the band had talked about it but it was too early to say how it was going to go.
2 main things I think stand in the way of these two bands doing the reunion & tour. #1 Ken Owen- His brain anneurism was pretty major & he may still have limited mobility so drumming would be out of the question. They'd have to get Adrian to do the drums for both bands or a fill in drummer. #2 Thomas Lindberg. The guy is awesome, yes. But I have a feeling even if ATG started to tour again, it could change on a moments notice. Thomas has been known to change his mind at the drop of a hat.
I still hope this happens. But if not I'm content in knowing I saw both bands live during their heyday.

Arch Enemy's alright. Carcass is great!
The Haunted is alright, At The Gates is great!
I honestly am not sure I would want Carcass or At The Gates becoming "alright." Their heads are obviously in different places than they were 15, 20 years ago and it wouldn't be the same.
But hell yes for a reunion TOUR!

So metaltracks.com just generate rumours for the fuck of it ??

Nearly every new (not nu) metal band out there was undeniably influenced by "Heartwork" and "Slaughter of the Soul." A lot of kids out there don't have any idea where this sound comes from. A tour could help spread awareness about these bands.

I lost my copy of Heartwork almost a year ago and despite looking for it about 90% of the time I go to the record store...I still can't find another. Slaughter of the Soul I still have yet to find the first time. Luckily I've still got the MP3's that introduced me to those albums.
So aside from the fact that it would be an incredible tour, I hope a little buzz will get the CD's back on the damn shelves.

If you ever change your mind and do decide to reform Carcass; and if Ken isnt able to perform hands on, send an email to spiritofsparta1@yahoo.com should you need a touring drummer. I'll fly out to England to try out if requested.

I have never beleived all this, sorry but i don't think i can picture Bill Steer headbanging through sinphonies of sickness songs with a slide stuck in his pocket :) ...i don't even think he remembers those tunes. I love his blues though and i really think is Firebird that motivates the guy, shame they are still so underrated..
