QUEEN Musical To Tour U.S. Before Hitting Broadway
- June 28, 2005
Launch Radio Networks reports: The Broadway debut of the QUEEN musical "We Will Rock You" has been put off indefinitely. Instead of making plans to bring the show to New York City any time soon, QUEEN guitarist Brian May told Launch that it will hit a number of other cities first. "The plan is to tour it in the States next year," he said. "That's what we plan to do. We had a hard time in the West End to begin with, you know, because it is very much not West End-sort of traditional ways of doing things, and we got really slagged off. To go in to Broadway, I think, would be a similar experience, and I think we would rather get across that it is a, a rock show before we go into that sort of territory."
"We Will Rock You" uses QUEEN songs to tell the story of a future where all music is made by computers, and where personal expression and freedom have been banned, although there is some resistance. The original production, in the West End of London, was savaged by critics when it premiered, but it's still going strong in its fourth year.
The show is currently running in Las Vegas, and it's also been staged in Russia, Spain, Germany, Australia, and Japan.
QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS resume their European tour on Saturday (July 2) in Lisbon, Portugal. They're expected to play in New York City and Los Angeles later this year, with a full-on North American tour coming in 2006.

Let me tell you all, SAVE YOUR MONEY. I saw this in London. It is the ABSOLUTE DUMBEST MUSICAL ever made - and that includes anything put on Broadway by Paul Simon and Boy George. I walked out - it was terrible - and I LOVE Queen.
I will have to go see the queen and paul roger gig. Fuck a musical though. I tried to sit through rent and it was unbearable. I dont care if a guy wants to suck another guys dick aside from the completely emasculating feeling that must accompany a dick in your mouth. Not my cup of tea. I'll have to ask KULL how that feels.

...And i have to say i enjoyed it! The story-line was so-so, but the music was very good obviously. Good to hear 'bohemian rhapsody' played live with a full band, and the opera section too (queen themselves always had a pre-recorded tape for that bit). I found it enjoyable, but nothing that's going to change your life. If you can afford it, and you've got nothing better to do that night, go check it out.
