BLACK SABBATH's IOMMI Gets 'Trashed' On New IAN GILLAN Album
- June 30, 2005
|
|
|
BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi recently took time out of his schedule to record the guitar parts for a remake of "Trashed" from BLACK SABBATH's "Born Again" album, which featured Ian Gillan (DEEP PURPLE) on vocals. The new version of the track will be included on Gillan's upcoming album "Gillan's Inn" — a celebration of Ian's 40th year on the road featuring remakes of tracks spanning Ian's entire career. This particular remake is said to be "heavier than the original," and also features fellow DEEP PURPLE members Ian Paice (drums) and Roger Glover (bass). Commented Gillan's manager: "It's a very cool pairing of musicians, bringing the rhythm section of PURPLE with Tony." Other musicians slated to appear on the record include Jon Lord, Don Airey, Steve Morse, Joe Satriani, Jeff Healey, Janick Gers, Michael Lee, Johnny Rzeznik, Robby Takac, Redd Volkeart and many others. The album is currently scheduled for a fall 2005 release.

oh...i saw Jannick Gers name, so...
Why does Iron Maiden need three guitarists.....? they did fine with two..does it just take stress off of dave and adrian? or does Jannick just sorta play tiny parts in between?

if you get the chance to see maiden live you would see for yourself how effective 3rd guitar is.jannick plays many parts,he is a fine guitarist.an extra player adds much to the live sound, more closely resembling the recorded version.
by the way (born again) is a killer sabbath album.

Janick Gers played in Gillan's solo band in the late 70s or early 80s. Thus, he will probably play on some songs from that era.
BTW, Born Again is a great album. The first tape I ever purchased. Yes, the production is absolutely horrible, but for some odd reason, I still love the way that album sounds.

"So we went back to the bar and hit the bottle again But there was no tequila Then we started on the whiskey just to steady our brains ’cause there was no tequila And as we drank a little faster at the top of our hill We began to roll And as we got trashed we were laughing still Oh bless my soul"

Born Again was great, though it certainly isn't much of a "Sabbath" album, and the production really took away from much of it. But the songwriting and singing are great on that album, in my opinion. I can't wait to hear this remake of "Trashed".

Heavier than the original?!
Iommi's solo on the orig. "Trashed" is one of his most ear-shredding ever!
Detractors take note, the 'Born Again' LP contains some of Gillan's most extreme vocal work in the form of "Disturbing the Priest", one of the most monsterous, haunting Sab riffs ever in the form of "Zero the Hero".
The CD has even been remastered to fix the muddy sound, but the LP must be owned for the packaging.

The Gillan-era Sabbath, had Tony, Bill, and Geezer, with a misplaced member of Deep Purple.
On this remake, we apparantly have Ian, Roger, and Jon, with a misplaced member of Black Sabbath. ;)
