IRON MAIDEN, WHITESNAKE, KORN Members Offer God Testimonials To 'Metal Bible'
- July 3, 2005
|
|
Johannes Jonsson of Metal For Jesus has completed work on a special version of the Bible called the "Metal Bible". Besides the New Testament in easy-to-understand language (Living Bible) it will also contain testimonials from metalheads about what God and the Bible has meant to them. Some of the participants include Brian "Head" Welch (ex- KORN), Nicko McBrain ( IRON MAIDEN), Tommy Aldridge ( WHITESNAKE), Rob Rock, Ken Tamplin, Christian Rivel ( NARNIA), Simon "Pilgrim" Rosén ( CRIMSON MOONLIGHT), Karl Walfridsson ( PANTOKRATOR), Pastor Bob Beeman ( Sanctuary International), Matt Smith ( THEOCRACY), Luke Renno ( CRIMSON THORN), Carl Johan Grimmark ( NARNIA), Torbjörn Weinesjö ( VENI DOMINE), Steve Rowe ( MORTIFICATION) and many more. The first version of the "Metal Bible" will be published in Swedish, but plans are already being made to release it in German, English and Portuguese as well. The purpose of this special Bible is to "break down prejudices and misconceptions that many metalheads have about the Bible and show that the Bible is not a boring book but an interesting book that has a lot to tell us today." A book "trailer" can be found at this location. For more information, visit www.metalbibel.nu.

Sounds interesting. For power metal fans, check out Theocracy (http://www.theocracymusic.com). Matt is the guy who did the St. Anger parody. These guys are really talented; probably the best new band of 2004 in my book. They are working on their second album and one song from it will be on the ProgPower sampler.

It's quite funny that a lot of the testimonials are from musicians who sought out Jesus to overcome addiction or depression. Some people find comfort in religion when they're at their wit's end. As long as they don't shove their beliefs down everyone's throat, I don't have a problem with it.

He was some minister or evangelist or something, and he had a radio show that I think was pretty popular there for a while, especially in the 80s and early 90s. I don't know if he's around anymore though. But anyway, he was ALWAYS going off on heavy metal. He even had Glen Benton of Deicide in the studio once. He also went on the road with Slayer back in 1988, at the invitation of "Spin Magazine." Anyway, the guy was good for a laugh, especially when he did on-air exorcisms.
Anyway, seeing this article made me think of him.
By the way, Zac (Eat Balls???) is right: Frank Stallone is God!!! His cameo in "Tombstone" was the best.

Being that there is no such thing as a virgin birth, a resurrection or any way to prove the bible (or Torah that came first), it's all just a story, and an impossible one to believe by rational humans. Therefore, it's a fake religion. It might help people to live and cope, but so does Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. Religion can't be proven in a court of law, the bible is far from infallible and not of it is provable.

I think this book is a joke just like the bible, What is it with a few rock stars’ loving this thing to me they use the bible as there crutch. I really have to question people’s mentality. I mean Dave Mustain & James Hetfield finding Jesus really surprised me because I thought that those two were strong minded, that they did not need the bible for support. In life I think you should believe in yourself and not some made up person in a book.

some of you heathens criticize the Bible and call believers a bunch of heathen names, but you have no book of your own to criticize, you heathens believe in nothing except yourselves and you know you are gonna die and the Bible will never die. Genesis was written about 4 thousand years ago and people have believed it all along. and now that you have all this technology and "science" you think it's all a "fairytale." well i believe it and a bunch of other people do too.

You people love to pick and choose various parts of the "bible" and cater it to one's individual interpretation. What's the expression: Cunning Linguists? Hah!!
You know what's most disgusting about the "bible": Man's complete separation from the Earth and other species. It's crowning of Lord Man, molded in the image of God. Absolute rubbish!! We are just a bunch of clothed apes who had the luck of the draw amongst other forms of human apes that failed along the way.

Seriously, I believe in the Earth and the forces of life that sustain it. I celebrate the seasons and my ancestral connection with other species. This connection is real. It can be documented through the ages by means of carbon dating.
Your beliefs are based on faith. Prove it. That's not to say there may be something on the other side. That we won't know until we check out.

So to each their own. And for any idiot who "loses respect" to Nicko Mc Brain for his beliefs, you obviously don't pay any attention to Maiden's lyrics, there are no anti-religious messages in the music. And yes, Number of The Beast counts. Read the lyrics to the fucking song.

To subjugate and dominate the Earth is immoral. These are specific biblical directives.
Humanity's very being is intertwined with this planet. Christianity denies that.

I'm still not exactly sure what you mean by "how the earth is regarded" from the perspective of Christianity...
Like, how it was created and what people think as they look around at it/discover more things about it?
Well, if -that's- what you mean, then this is how it's impacted me.
I look around and see an infinently complexed world and the more I find out about it the more I'm convinced there is a God. It just doesn't make sense that it all just happened on it's own by chance. But believing that God made it doesn't take anything away from the scientifical aspect of explaining it all, just as science doesn't do anything(well, it shouldn't because there's no reason to) to dis-prove the existance of a God.

There are MANY studies that have been published theorizing that the legalization of abortion in the U.S. in the early 70s has been a significant factor in the decrease of violent crime that has been occurring ever since. Granted, it's only a theory, but a sound one in my opinion. And I'm sure it's not the only factor either. Other factors would be better concealed-carry laws, too, in my opinion.
The way I see it, EVERYTHING in life has its good points and its bad points. You just have to carefully think everything through before making a decision. Yes, there are many bad points regarding abortion. I do think abortion is murder, but I also think that 999 times out of 1000, the fetus being aborted was just going to be yet one more unwanted, unloved child who would eventually grow up to be a criminal. So, I'm not going to miss him/her. Besides that, this planet is overpopulated enough as it is. Pretty soon Mother Nature's going to rise up and wipe out a large percentage of us.
Sorry to sound like Mr. Spock, but I'm just using logic here. Now....live long and prosper.

DO YOU ACTUALLY THINK THERE IS AN INVISIBLE BEING IN THE SKY THAT SEES EVERYTHING YOU DO AND EVERYTHING YOU SAY?
LETS GET WITH REALITY PEOPLE.
YOUR SO LOST IN YOUR LIVES THAT YOU HAVE TO WORSHIP SOME MYSTICAL FIGURE IN THE SKY.
YOU GO TO CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY AND BEG FOR FORGIVENESS FOR YOUR WEEKLY SINS. THEN NEXT SUNDAY YOU WILL DO IT AGAIN. EVERYTHING IS BAD AND EVIL AND YOU LIVE EVERYDAY WORRYING ABOUT WHERE YOUR GOING TO GO WHEN YOU DIE.

Okay, but if the people that had the kid would have been more careful/thought about what they were doing then there wouldn't BE any unwanted pregnancy's in the first place to worry about!!!
And Solitary Raven, I don't posess enough knowledge to defend my faith from those veiwpoints.
There is this a few points I can make though.
About animals not having souls, in Genesis it talks about how God made man apart by giving him a spirit, separating him from the beasts of the earth. But it also doesn't say animals don't have anything. (at least, I think it doesn't..:(...) But yeah, even so, it's kind of vauge, I doubt the animals are as completely SOL as it seems. I just think God did something to where the other creatures of the earth wouldn't have the same kind of relationship with him as humans who are made in his likeness.
Earth being made for humanity? Not really, according to the bible it was all made for the glory of he who created it.
The earth being sacred? Sacred is defined as "Dedicated to or set apart for the worship of a deity." In that sense, of course the Earth isn't sacred! God didn't make the earth so that we would worship it. As far as being "nothing but a transport", I highly doubt it for it says in the bible about the heavens and the earth being made anew again. So I doubt it's just a worthless piece of rock ;).
"appointed as Lord Man over all creatures."
So you'd rather be being overun by the creatures of the earth? I know I wouldn't appreciate it if my best friend was mauled by a lion or bitten to death by snakes. I wish humans were more caring and considerate when it came to the eviroment/animals...but whatever, that's just man's sick and twisted mind at work.
The sermon on the mount?
Ah, I love this quote, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me"....
I just read the entire thing! No where in there does he speak badly of animals! It's all about how man should treat other man and how he should show honor to the Lord!! -_-' You sure you meant the sermon on the mount?

"YOUR SO LOST IN YOUR LIVES THAT YOU HAVE TO WORSHIP SOME MYSTICAL FIGURE IN THE SKY."
How am I lost in my lives? It's really not a big deal to worship a diety. Yes it's a life-changing ordeal but it was never intended to be a burden on anyone. God lets us have fun and party hard lol. It's binding...but not in the way most people think.
"EVERYTHING IS BAD AND EVIL AND YOU LIVE EVERYDAY WORRYING ABOUT WHERE YOUR GOING TO GO WHEN YOU DIE."
Actually we don't have to go to church every sunday and beg for forgiveness...we don't even HAVE to go to church, though I do because my church is really good...
Besides, yeah, I do sin, every day. And all I have to do is ask for forgiveness and I know that he'll forgive me of my sin's. Therefore, I never have to worry about where I go after I die...

"Okay, but if the people that had the kid would have been more careful/thought about what they were doing then there wouldn't BE any unwanted pregnancy's in the first place to worry about!!!"
Mathias_, I agree with you 100% on this. Please believe me, I am not opposed at all to a world without abortion. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal world, and abortion is just a sad fact of real, imperfect life. Human beings are, for the most part, fucking retards. Of course, it would be fantastic if everybody did think about the consequences of unprotected sex, etc., but unfortunately, that will never happen. There will ALWAYS be unwanted pregnancies; ergo, there will always be a need for abortion.
To me, abortion is the very definition of "necessary evil."

Why would I want to live my life in the image of someone I have never even met before?
Good question, I mean, who wants to strive to be a decent human being nowadays *sarcasm*.
Seems the popular thing to do is be intolerant of those trying to do good, laughing at those in need, stealing, doing drugs, lusting for money.
I can really see how the world would be a better place without the moral principles put in place by -true- Chrisitian teachings *more sarcasm*.

"Earth being made for humanity? Not really, according to the bible it was all made for the glory of he who created it."
Genesis 1:26 26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
"So you'd rather be being overun by the creatures of the earth? I know I wouldn't appreciate it if my best friend was mauled by a lion or bitten to death by snakes."
If someone's stupid enough to fall prey to a situation like that, so be it. In nearly every circumstance the person deserved it. Darwin strikes again. :)
Sermon On The Mount quotes:
Matthew 7:9-10 9Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?
Matthew 7:15 15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves."
"So you'd rather be being overun by the creatures of the earth? I know I wouldn't appreciate it if my best friend was mauled by a lion or bitten to death by snakes."

has anyone ever heard the song "God gave Rock n roll to you"? well just imagine for a second that everything good in your life is from God. forget about John Lennon and leaving your wife for yoko for a second and "imagine" it's all true. imagine there is a reason for it all and something actually matters. imagine "your heart will go on" like that song from the movie titanic. imagine death is just the beginning.
all horror movies are like a "rip off" of the Bible and Christianity anyway. frankenstein "created a man" dracula "drank blood" to live. zombies are "ressurected from the dead." evrerything you think about that is not completely everyday and mundane can be easily linked to the Bible.
you are probably glorifying God without even intending to. like pharoh, he ended up being a great lesson.
open your eyes to something besides death and hate and getting high, drunk or laid for one second.

These do NOTHING to support your arguement.
The 1st one: He was using those to prove a point that you obviously missed. For one, back in those days they lived off the land, snakes, being threatening were looked down upon. So in that example he was saying it would be like asking for a favor but getting taken advantage of.
The 2nd one: same thing basically except more specific. Okay, the isrealites were shepards. Wolves were hated and feared because they would come in packs and kill their sheep!
So when Jesus says they came dressed in sheeps clothing but inwardly they were wolves, he was putting it in simpler terms that they could relate to. Basically saying on the surface they seemed nice and reasonable but on the inside they were only out to take advantage of you.
I'd think poorly of the animals that could harm me too. Besides if suddenly all the wild animals of the earth became un-afraid of humans we'd have quite a problem on our hands and many thousands would die reguardless of their intellegence!
"they deserved it" well okay then let's put you in a situation out of your control and see if you calmly go "oh I deserve this". If think you would then it's obvious that you've never been in that kind of life threatening situation.
I've spoken to many many war veterans and they all told me the same thing, "you may think you can keep your cool, but it's a whole different story when you actually have to face it."

just think of any metal band or band period that isn't just "obsessed" with the Bible, God or Jesus....i'm having a hard time thinking of one. every metal band seems to think these things are worthy of many, many comments. it's an "obsession" i tell you. verily i say unto you. verily is similar to the word "veritas" which means "truth" so when Jesus says "verily i say unto you" he is basically saying, "I'm telling you the truth." just thought i'd throw that in there.

I've encountered bear on 5 occasions, once with a griz. I just got back from New Mexico backpacking and ran into 4 black-tailed rattlers - one I surprised by her nest. So don't tell me I haven't encountered it.
I'll say it again: In MOST circumstances the person is at fault for a mauling/snake bite.
"Wolves were hated and feared because they would come in packs and kill their sheep!"
Wahhh! Get a fuckin' sheepdog. Besides wolves very rarely ever prey upon sheep. More BS that's been perpetuated through the ages.
"Besides if suddenly all the wild animals of the earth became un-afraid of humans we'd have quite a problem on our hands and many thousands would die reguardless of their intellegence!"
Excellent!! Let's hope it would run into the billions. The Earth would thank us.
Oh, wait a minute it would never happen.

I got mauled by a dog once, but then again it was my fault. It was when I was a mailman. I provoked the dog though, asshole that I am. He fucked me up pretty good, but he got the worse of it, I think, because I pretty much bashed his head in with my fist (although it took five punches before he finally let go).

"What?!"
What do you mean what?! Jesus was using a metaphor(not sure if that's the right word.)
Look at what is said "Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?" It's like asking for a favor and getting lied to/cheated on. He used the word serpent because snakes were generally looked down upon because of their threat to the community.(Who wants their 5 year old getting bitten by a snake?).
"Wahhh! Get a fuckin' sheepdog. Besides wolves very rarely ever prey upon sheep. More BS that's been perpetuated through the ages."
Dear lord did you not even read what I wrote? Jesus used the term "ravenous wolves in sheeps clothing" to potray a sly individual who seemed friendly but would actually cause you harm if you followed them. Once again he was using examples of animals so that it would make sense to the people of that day who did indeed fear wolves and snakes. So what if wolves were not that common of a threat to herders, it was still a scary thought for them. Shark attacks aren't that common but yet many people don't go swimming at the beach in fear of them.
Even in today's sociaty, completely unrelated to Christianity is the hatred of predators like wild wolves and snakes and sharks. If you despise Christianity just because of a few comparison's that Jesus made to wolves and snakes...

We can end this conversion because you completely proved my point. And it goes far beyond a few quotes in the Sermon.
The disregard of the Earth and other creatures in the community of life has been perpetuated throughout Western history. It is this insiduous influence of the West that has it's origins in the bible.
Compare this to most Native i.e. Pagan cultures.
The Earth has not a chance if this "dominion" mindset continues...

At least this isn't the Satanic Bible, that one is the biggest joke in the history of anything. And those instructions to the "satanic ceremony" resemble the ideas for the set design to a King Arthur flick.
