EVANESCENCE Co-Founder Diagnosed With Bipolar Disorder, Planning Solo Album - July 12, 2005
EVANESCENCE co-founder Ben Moody recently spoke to RollingStone.com about his upcoming solo album, tentatively due this fall.

"It's a rock record, but it's a lot more organic than stuff I've done in the past," says Moody. "When it's heavy, it's straight-ahead heavy."

Moody is producing the album, with Jay Baumgarder (PAPA ROACH) co-producing a handful of tracks, and he's recruited GODHEAD's Jason Miller to play guitar and sing lead vocals on a few tracks. Drummer Lance Garvin (LIVING SACRIFICE), bassist Marty O'Brien (TOMMY LEE, METHODS OF MAYHEM) and guitarist Michael "Fish" Herring (PRINCE, CHRISTINA AGUILERA) round out the lineup.

Several of the fifteen songs Moody has demoed for his solo effort are about the turmoil he has gone through the past few years, "having to come to grips with my own anger and self-hatred and things that I tried to pin on EVANESCENCE." Moody, who was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder, confesses, "It goes much deeper than anything that came from being in a band."

So because of his bipolar diagnosis, he's going to make a solo album? That seems kind of weird but I guess that's what happens when you're bipolar.

COMMENT | He went crazy because he could not get sweet pussy from that hot Amy girl.

if you ever had a family member or a friend suffer from it, and someone made a joke about it, it just makes you want to kick the crap out of them
for being so lame. Good luck Ben, it takes guts to admit that publicly, and there are surely lots more musicians out there, from kurt cobain to syd barret, throughout history that had mental health problems

and I'm no Tom Cruise, but the drug companies - in my humble estimation - must LOVE our society being so fucking duped into believing that if you have a bad day, you're fucking depressed/insane and in need of drug therapy to "fix" it.

I do believe there are truly sick people and are in need of some medication, but why does it seem like more and more people are taking anti-depressants? For that matter, more and more CHILDREN taking them?

Kull, that was not accurate.
Manic people usually don't know what the fuck they are doing, are grandiose, start a bunch of projects they don't finish, can't hold a normal conversation, can get violent, can have complete disregard for anyone else's rights and be very very selfish. Their grandiosity makes them intolerable, it is not a situation like you painted, where they do genius work. Quite the opposite, they fuck up big time, spend money like crazy, drive wrecklessly, serioously assault someone, and become seriously medically compromised from dehydration, lack of sleep, and prone to infection. They go on sex sprees, fucking homeless people and do thiings no one in their right mind would do. Then a depression can sink in where they are seriously suicidal.

Please don't glorify this, and everyone who listens to Tom Cruise, scientology is a scary cult. If you read Dianetics and go to one of their meetings, it's freaky. They talk about "clearing engrams" a process that involves wiping out your traumatic memories. As close to brain washing as it can be. Tom Cruise is seriously fucked up, and practicing medicine without a liscence.

Bipolar is not fun, not funny, and for those who know it more personally, some of these comments people make talking out their ass are offensive.

Kull, you often act like you are a walking swami. Some of the information is accurate, but you over generalize. I agree about the possibilities of some drugs as therapy to expand consciousness.

And about this pill culture we have, people can turn to psychiatry for treatment, or medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs, or religion, food, gambling, denial or just suffer without help. Psychiatry doesn't always help, but it has the best chance because it's based on scientific research.

Ben Moody's former band should've been diagnosed with schizophrenia a long time ago for pretending they're Lacuna Coil and Nightwish in one package.

Has Amy Lee ever made good on her threat to sit on Britney Spears and dye her hair pea soup green like she claimed she would last year?
