BLIND MELON Revisited On Hits/Live Sets

Greg Prato of Billboard.com is reporting that BLIND MELON will be the subject of a "Best of" CD and a live DVD this fall via Capitol/ EMI Music Catalog Marketing, and will also issue a previously unreleased concert recording to digital download services. The projects will be available Sept. 27, less than a month shy of the 10-year-anniversary of BLIND MELON vocalist Shannon Hoon's death from a drug overdose. The 19-track "Tones of Home: The Best of Blind Melon" will also be available in a limited-edition with a DVD featuring six music videos and a live performance of the group's biggest hit, "No Rain". According to guitarist Roger Stevens, its release was inspired by higher-than-expected sales for the 2002 compilation "Classic Masters". "That exceeded [the label's] expectations of what they thought it was going to do," he tells Billboard.com. "They sold through [the pressing] — it's not that widely available anymore, so they're going to re-do it and make it better." Read the rest of the article at Billboard.com.

Zakk Wylde shared apartment with Shannon back in ´94. They wrote a couple of songs together, don´t know if anything got released though. Zakk tried to help Shannon clean up his act, but I guess it didn´t work out that well...
When Zakk got the news that Shannon passed away he wrote the acoustic song "Throwin´It All Away" which can be heard on the acoustic masterpiece "Book Of Shadows"

Blind Melon were not metal, so i have no clue what the hell this is doing on here.
That being said, Hoon was a total jerk when he was on substances, but he was a brilliant songwriter and a great singer. Unfortunately the drugs got the best of him, but the 3 albums the band put out (2 before his death and 1 after) are truely great and still play regularly in my house.

...but they were a great band. I was fortunate enough to have seen them open for Lenny Kravitz back in '94 at the Tower in Philly. Great show.

Once again, another band not needing to be discussed on this web site. I think they're posting news on here either out of making money or just to get a rise out of us, (probably both).
Either way, I'm still going to buy the new Blind Melon because I think the girl who played the bee in their first video was pretty hot, (I hope she's still fat).
I hope Shannon saved some drugs for the rest of us. "Dude, that's fucked up", yeah, I know, so go toss his dead salad if you love him so much.

They are my favorite band hands down.
Shannon was one of the best people I ever knew, and his death hit me like a ton of bricks.
He was one of the best songwriters that I've ever encountered, and one of the best friends a guy could have.
I wish daily that Shannon was still here, I miss him immensely, and Nell & Nico are always in my thoughts.
I'll be at his gathering on Sept. 26th to play his songs and offer my support to his family...I go every year and its a good time, I hope some of you can make it as well....I'll gladly give anyone the info if you e-mail me.
For any of you that want live footage of Blind Melon, purchase "Letters From a Porcupine", it's full of great stuff.
Also I have the Blind Melon "Behind the Music" and will try to make a copy for anyone who is interested.
Rest well Shannon, I'll see you when all is said & done.

First of all, everyone has the right to their own opinion. That's what forums are for: to state your opinion.
Just to touch upon a few thing, although Melon wasn't a Metal Band, they gained respect from many metal/rock legends. Ozzy and Zakk (as mentioned). Lenny, The Stones, GnR, Soundgarden, AIC...
They have a very unique sound. There was no single band that sounded like them when they were together.
To answer an above post. Yes, the other members went off and did their own thing, and continue to do so. I am fortunate enough to chat with the guys from time to time. One band that formed after the death of Shannon was a band called Unified Theory.. The bass player (Smith) and the guitar player (Thorn) were involved win this band (along with former Pearl Jam Drummer, Krusen). They were fronted by a man named Chris Shinn. Some say he sounds a lot like Shannon. I disagree, now. He has one hell of a range and is, in my opinion (obviously), one of the most powerful yet soothing singers alive today. Drummer (Glen) is currently playing for The Meek.
Ok, back to Shannon.. Each year there is a Vigil held for him. People from all over the world gather. The following day there is a small festival called Vigilstock (www.vigilstock.tk) ...
A lot of people remember Blind Melon as being the band that had "the Bee Girl (drummer's sister)" in the video. That is, by far, nothing that Melon sounds like. These guys rocked like the rest of 'em.
I suggest visiting www.youtube.com and searching for Blind Melon... Watch some of the rare stuff. If you find the video for a song called "Galaxie" get ready to cringe. Shannon was trippin' and was REALLY in a self-destructive mood that day.
