Anti-IRON MAIDEN Message On Back Of Official OZZFEST T-Shirt?

An IRON MAIDEN fan with the screen name "Kaz96133" has posted the following message on the official MAIDEN message board [NOTE: Thread has since been deleted from MAIDEN's message board]: "Went to Ozzfest in Mansfield yesterday and noticed something on the back of the official [ Ozzfest] T-shirt. At the bottom of tour dates, the words 'Iron Maiden' were written in Japanese and were crossed out with red circle and a slash. Check out the photo I took here [NOTE: Thread has since been deleted from MAIDEN's message board]. This is clearly an anti- MAIDEN message, and this is an OFFICIAL T-shirt! "Does the band know about this? Is this some kind of inside-joke, or is Sharon [ Osbourne] pissed at MAIDEN or something? If someone knows about it, please explain! Meanwhile, I would advise all MAIDEN fans out there NOT to buy this T-shirt. I was appalled because I saw so many people wearing this T-shirt yesterday."

It seems alot of Iron Maiden fans only like Iron Maiden. This whole thing is very silly, it's not anti Iron Maiden it's just showing Maiden will not be there. Ozzy and Sharon are huge Iron Maiden fans and the coments Bruce made I doubt were about Sabbath. They might not put out a new album but they are all ver busy doing other music like they're solo projects and shit.

Title says it all really.
Maiden should never play in Ozzfest. I guess Rod and co. thought Maiden should get popular in USA like in 80s. They are still very popular in everywhere in the world except USA. The solution: playing at Ozzfest to a "new" crowd to gain new & young fans, also release a new "essential Maiden" best of for US market.
The result: Ozzfest crowd still hates Maiden, but in addition, Maiden upsets their long time fans in US with playing a shorter set (1 hour) without many of the classics, and also with releasing another best of CD for no reason.
I wonder what the guys were thinking really. Some lowlife scum threw a bottle to Adrian Smith in Boston. He is normally a very laid back guy - He is not like some American poser guitarist like Mick Mars or Slash or some other showman (not artist!!). He is just like a man on the street, he is never fake!! Yet even he couldn't stand it, and he took off his guitar and argued with the guy, for the first time in his life! He is an amazing guitarist and songwriter, yet he gets treated like that. But maybe the Ozzfest crowd want their artists to be fakes, who knows?
So, is Ozzfest worth it? I'm sure there are people out there who will be happy with watching the once-legend now sellout-oldmen Sabbath on stage. Sabbath tours for the money, and only for the money. No new album, no nothing. What a shame. Yet Maiden keeps on releasing new and great albums. Maybe that is what Sharon and co can not stand.
And for the "girlie" thing. Yes, a band who writes songs about serious and non-poser things, like feelings of people who are about to get executed, suicidal calvary attacks, the danger of nuclear wars, historical figures and comparisons of right hand and left hand religions (see the lyrics for Revelations, if you have enough potential to get them of course) etc. etc. is indeed a girlie band. Maiden was never "man" enough to write ultrastupid & ultrafake lyrics like "I will love my baby till the morning, she wants a hot dog and a shake", sorry about that. Nicko put it well back then: "What said the monster with three heads? Don't meedle with things you don't understand".

Since it is a shirt with the tour dates and it's at the bottom(end) in Japanese, it might have been put on by Sharon or someone to say NO MAIDEN IN JAPAN, since that's basically the only other band on the bill that really matters.

What is it with you guys and all the bashing ? all "ozzfest crowds" and all the anti american shit. Since when does the "Ozzfest crowd" not like Maiden ? from what I understand they loved them as most metal fans do no matter what country they are from. Some of you guys need to get your heads out of Bruce's ass for a second and realise other bands exist too. Iron Maiden is one of my favorate bands but some of you guys are so fucking close minded. As for Sabbath not putting out more albums and only touring for money I disagree big time. Touring is what they do, Ozzy has tried to retire but thats all he knows. They have talked about putting another Sabbath album out but they dont wanna disapoint the fans by releasing something fans might be disapointed in. Fuck and the people complaining about Maiden not playing 2 hours well why not just go and enjoy the show ? I mean it's a festival and you get to see a little something from alot of great bands, if you only are going to Ozzfest to see Maiden and bitch so much about the short set list then just wait until they do they're own tour. Black Sabbath is the headlining band why did you expect a 2 hour show ? Maiden will kick ass so just have fun and stop worrying so much, how do you think fans of some of the bands who are only playing 20 minutes feel ? again it's a festival and after 10 years people should know what to expect.

as for the above poster, I agree with you on the not putting out an album because the fans might not like it. Sabbath at first played bluesy Zepplin-esque type music. I for one am glad they stopped that, but what's to say they wouldn't go back to playing that type of rock?

Sharon and Ozzy are not jelous at all, they have wanted Iron Maiden on tour for years and are happy as hell to have them this year. Ozzy has never been someone to ask the opening act to tone down they're show and has always encouraged bands to give it they're best, he's never been afraid of shit like that and said just recently even that he never tries to blow anyone off stage because him and Sabbath have nothing more to prove, they just wanna rock and so should everyone else. The bottom line is there is no fued, the shirt is for the dates that Maiden will not be on, they used Maidens name because some people probably heard them advertised and thats it.

Not all bands on ozzfest are metalcore. since when was The Haunted or mastadon metalcore? and who comes up with these names? People always have to catagorize shit. Well heres a NU catagorie dungeons and dragons metal consisting of Iron Maiden, Man o War etc.

Strangely enough my 3 favourite bands are Maiden, Type O Negative / Carnivore and My Dying Bride. Next to them there's Candlemass, Slayer, Death, Cathedral, Trouble, Eyehategod, Corrosion Of Conformity, Priest, Haemorrhage, Cure etc. etc.... I'm not close minded. Maybe I'm close minded to all these nu hair metal type thing that's going on at the moment, Crue came back, there's Velvet Revolver with their cinematic early 90s type videos, GNR are coming back etc... And I believe what we'll get is more image than music. Anyway.
I'm a big doom metal fan and Sabbath's first 4 albums are the prototypes of doom metal - they were gods. Now they are shitting on their past. If you don't make a new album, so be it. Why tour every summer? What's the point of it, other than making money?
And as for Maiden playing at Ozzfest. This tour is a special tour for Maiden, as they only play songs from the first 4 albums. Which means they played long time forgotten classics like Another Life, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Prowler, Drifter, Where Eagles Dare and Remember Tomorrow in European gigs, and these songs will probably be never played again, ever. So this tour was the last chance to hear those songs live.
If Maiden toured USA like they did in 2003, with 2 different special guests, and played for like, 90 minutes, only 1 or 2 classics would be discarded. Playing at Ozzfest means 8 songs got discarded from the set, and all are above mentioned forgotten classics. This tour was important for the long time Maiden fans in USA, but Maiden decided it would be better to gain new fans and thus played at Ozzfest. Maybe it's a good move commercially, but it's not cool for the fans in USA who will get less than their European brothers.

It's not like Iron Maiden wants to play in the US anyway.....any time that they talk about Americans it is always how shitty of fans we are!They have gotten fat & lazy doing the European festivals every year or so and don't want to do a proper tour of The United States.Since they won't be on the last 7 shows I have to fly to Chicago to see them......and at this point it could be for the last time as Maiden has a problem hitting the southern states and I'm getting fed up with being forced to drive 6 hours to see them!And if it wasn't for Doi & Motorhead being on the last US tour I wouldn't have wasted my time on The Columbus show!

I didn't realy mean to single you out it's just your post that made me feel a need to reply. As for Sabbath touring every year I gues it has alot to do with fans still wanting it and like I said Sabbath and especialy Ozzy dont know how to stop. I watched some show about Ozzy fans and one fan made a good point. He said so many people dont get to see their icons, legends like Jim Morrison, John Lennon etc... because they are dead, Ozzy and Sabbath are living legends and some of us are just happy to be able to see them at all. I just wish everyone would get along and be pumped up for the show you know what I mean ? it's not every day you get a chance to see big name bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie and others let alone in the same day. It's a huge deal to me and everyone should have a good time.

The truth is, maiden is gigantic in nearly every other country in the world, and america by comparison have more half-hearted fans. the fans in south america, asia europe, russia, australia... all get in to it and probably smoke us as far as how crazy the audience is.
Maiden played four shows in the bay area two years ago. I went to all of them plus the on in LA. Nothing but prime maiden, on fire, giving their all and doing what they do best. I've met Bruce, Adrian and Nicko and they were the nicest "rockstars" I have ever met.
Don't believe everything you read. Maiden are metal gods.

maiden wrote the book on fan respect, which is why they are a global machine growing in numbers throughout the years. Last year, maiden were #6 in the top growing music act in the world. That's ALL of them, everyone from John Tesh to 50 cent to Celine Dion to Dave Mathews...

I'm from America, but guess what. There really are some pretty shitty music fans in this country. Of course, there are some great die hard, devoted fans (i'm one of them), but look around you. If Maiden didn't do something like Ozzfest this year, it was getting to the point where they wouldn't even be able to aford to play in the USA. If you stage a Maiden sized tour, the simple truth is that you have to be able to put enough butts in the seats to turn a profit, which in turn allows you to come back again for the fans. Maybe if a few more of my fellow American country men would buy Maiden albums (rather than stealing them online), as well as help spread the word to create new fans, then we wouldn't have to have this conversation.

I can't tell if it says iron maiden or not... but even if it does... May this is cause Maiden won't be on the whole tour an since it's at the bottom of the shirt maybe it's was meaning some dates maiden won't be there... I'm sure if it is to fuck with maiden they'll drop off the tour but seeing Ozzy an maiden both have shared the stage with each other alot in the past it is just nothing more then a joke or something harmless that people who don't know what is going on making ant hill into a mountian

Was just there to show that Maiden wasn't playing those dates as opposed to it being "anti-maiden" in any way. If Sharon or anyone else involved with Ozzfest was "anti-maiden" then Maiden quite simply would not be playing at Ozzfest.

Look people...do you all have any fucking clue how the merchandise business works for bands this big? Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, etc. probably haven't even seen the shirts in question. They don't drive their own cars, cook their own meals, set up the stage, write up menus for the concession stands, but you think they design the goddamn tour shirts?
