PRIMUS To Record New Studio Album
- July 19, 2005
|
|
According to Billboard.com, PRIMUS' classic lineup of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander will hit the studio later this year to record their first album together since 1995's "Tales From the Punchbowl". It will be PRIMUS' first new studio album since 1999's "Antipop". It is unknown if the new set will be released by Claypool's Prawn Song imprint or via another label. Claypool, LaLonde and Alexander regrouped in the fall of 2003 for a North American tour and the Interscope release of a DVD/CD, "Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People". On Saturday (July 23), the group will be the only performer at the revived Lollapalooza festival in Chicago that was a part of the event in its 1990s heyday. Claypool will also play a solo show the night before at the Vic Theatre.

Man, Primus is awesome but you wish LaLonde and Claypool were still doing Blind Illusion. And for that matter, you gotta wish LaLonde was still doing Possessed. A new Possessed album would be the shit, no question.

This is some of the best news i've heard in a long while. Anything Claypool does is ALWAYS worthy of a close listen (thank god he did Oysterhead with the drum god Stewart Copeland!!!!!).
Please Les, put all of the posers in their fucking places!!!!

"On Saturday (July 23), the group will be the only performer at the revived Lollapalooza festival in Chicago that was a part of the event in its 1990s heyday."
They're playing Sunday, but Dinosaur Jr. were also on Lollapalooza in 1993, the same year that Primus headlined. The original Lollapaloozas were basically "alternative hard rock" festivals with some hip-hop or other stuff, but this new one is mostly major label post-punk, power pop, emo and jam bands. There's a kids' stage, even.
Dammit, Perry, playing with the guy from Extreme... you should at least have gotten Isis or The Mars Volta or Lightning Bolt or High On Fire, something the yuppie hipsters might not feel embarassed to rock out to. Those old line-ups were built around bands like Jane's Addiction, Living Colour, Ministry, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Babes In Toyland, Tool, Primus... you know, loud guitar bands. The loudest band this thing has is the Pixies (one of very few reasons to go), or maybe ...Trail of Dead.

With that said, Primus was good but Claypool doesn't need to rehash his same old schtick. Be serious this time & rule the mother fucking world.

Finally something to look forward to coming out. Herb is back and the album is going to be the best thing they've done in years. That is as long as Les gets his head out of his jam band mode and concentrates on primus.

Who loves Brain? I mean, Primus's best years were with Herb, but I think Brain is an AMAZING drummer, probably my favorit, aside from Matt Cameron.

2 things:
1)primus had more influence on some nu-metal than most give credit for. i.e mudvayne etc
2)les solo stuff is just as good as primus IMO. purple onion is great stuff. we don't need another primus album

Primus, and Claypool, the man himself, has gone through a lot of changes recently. Antipop was a style reach i really think they shouldn't have taken, it wasn't a terrible record but it wasn't up to the standards of Primus' greatness. I hope they return to their Seas of Cheese and Frizzle Fry-esque roots. I agree after seeing 2004's Hallucino-Genetics tour (DVD, I missed the concert, Dammit) they may have, at least in concert become a hippie jam band. Claypool may have turned that way during his great collaborations with Trey Anastacio of Phish for Oysterhead.
