KORN Frontman: It's Time For Ex-Guitarist BRIAN 'HEAD' WELCH To Move On

KORN frontman Jonathan Davis has slammed ex- KORN guitarist Brian "Head" Welch over Welch's assertion that his former bandmates have used outside songwriters to compose material "just to have a phat house and a bunch of cars." In a journal entry originally submitted on June 26 but recently edited by Welch, he wrote, "It was either I stay in KORN and hire songwriters to make up songs for us just to get rich and save my career, or write my own songs that are straight from my heart. "I wasn't trying to be an AEROSMITH and play hit songs that other people wrote just to have a phat house and a bunch of cars. I thought KORN was about NOT selling out. "I've done some interviews lately and I thought it was okay to speak the truth in love about the lies that were being sold to the KORN fans, who, in my opinion, are the most loyal fans that exist in music. But my ex-bandmembers aren't too pleased with me now so I'm gonna have to say 'No comment' on any KORN questions for a while. They know I love them so I'll just leave it at that 'till they come around." Writing to his ButtSexCrips.com web site, KORN singer Jonathan Davis addressed Head's remarks by stating, "I have no idea what Head is talking about. We have ALWAYS wrote [sic] our own music I think it's pretty funny KORN has done nothing but wish Head the best with his 'new life' but in turn, all he does is stir up all this drama. Well I find it amusing how Jon Davis' lyrics are all about how shit life is sitting in his big mansion. So basically they either aren't written for him and he lies through his teeth to sell his records to the nu-metal crowd or he gets them done for him.
Either way it's no good no?

Typically when you "sell out" your sales should improve. Korn must not be paying their hired song writer enough these days, lol. But hey, what do you expect when choose trends over musical innovation. I think if these guys actually listened to a few great, real, heavy metal records, they would probably feel guilty for having not improved their craft during their career. oh...and Korn didn't use any turntables in the first album, or second I believe(unless you count Wicked, but that was a cover of an Ice Cube song).
Coal Chamber never had a funky rythem section or turn tables...so that would mean that one of the bands (CC) that most people call Nu Metal fall outside your description. Once again, we need a description that will fit every band that has even been called "nu metal" on this board...and it won't happen, believe me.

Nu Metal is supposed to have those hip-hop type drums and deep, loud bass. That's korn mainly, but expanding on that are: usually decent singers, rare guitar solos, simple, basic(and low-talent) style guitars...

It is a form of heavy metal, that seems to be largely frowned upon, and almost used as an insult. But it is what it is. Who gives a shit. If people don'tlike it than so be it. To me turntables and rap influence just dilutes and squanders heavy music. Turntables and synthesizers make it less real, and rob heavy music of it's heavyness

Cobain was supposed to kill rock radio and he became rock radio so all those bands sold out to the same industry that had just been supporting WARRANT SKID ROW and CINDERELLA etc...............ARESOMITH AND KISS lead the way on selling out as far as music/songs, neither of those bands could write a good song if they both got together, Aerosmith has been riding the wave of DREAM ON for 30 years and now r&b song writers write for them....HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA now that is selling out.

Nu metal is basically people that want to be in a heavy metal band and just plain dont have much talent and like someone said earlier, tune down their guitars to sound heavier.
one of teh only bands that can pull off that style of music i woudlnt put in nu metal category is fear factory.
tuned down, no solos, but fuck they can play about 10,000 times better then korn could ever dream of.

Anyway. All these "Korn sux" statements come from people who, whether they know it or not, listen to sell-out bands. The music industry is on a downfall, and record labels only sign bands that are guaranteed to sell records. Korn stick to their sound, and should be respected for it. And please stop using the term "Nu Metal". Come up with some new terms instead, since we all know it's kinda stupid to put ten bands that sound completely different into the one and same folder.
