JERRY CANTRELL To Team Up With WES SCANTLIN For 'Unplugged' Gig - July 22, 2005
Former ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell will be teaming up with PUDDLE OF MUDD frontman Wes Scantlin for a rare "unplugged" performance on Sunday, July 31 at Rain at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cantrell recently told MTV.com that he has been working on his new solo album with several high-profile musicians, including METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo, ex-JANE'S ADDICTION bassist Chris Wyse, ex-JANE'S ADDICTION drummer Stephen Perkins, ALICE IN CHAINS' Sean Kinney and Mike Inez, producer Marti Frederiksen (MICK JAGGER, AEROSMITH) and FAITH NO MORE's Mike Bordin, who played drums on Cantrell's most recent disc, 2002's "Degradation Trip".

I know people are going to hate me, but I actually kind of like Puddle Of Mudd. It's super simple, and generic hard rock/nu-metal, but oh well. Now, with that being said, the drummer in my band knows Wes Scantlin, and apparently even before he got anywhere near remotely famous, he's apparently like a huge dickhead.

Hard rock, definitely. Hard rock covers a huge spectrum. To be honest I wouldn't call them nu-metal either, but you have to consider where we were. I would have expected someone to retort with that, hence why I put it to begin with. Saves the trouble you know?

Jerry and Wes are NOT playing together.

Wes is opening.

Jerry is headlining.

They are each playing a seperate, solo acoustic set.

At least, that is what it says on Cantrell's official website.

"July 31 Jerry will perform at the Rain In The Desert in Las Vegas, NV with and acoustic show. The opener will be Wes Scantlin from Puddle Of Mud playing acoustic. Visit Ticketmaster for tickets."

Start being serious about something and give us something in return for our undying loyalty.

Or John Corabi or whoever but Puddle of mud???????? I 'll have to meditate on that one.

scantlin is just another cobain clone/wannabe, along with the seether frontman. scantlin and his "band" are a joke. the "she hates me" song is a blatant ripoff of Suicidal's "I Saw Your Mommy" and his (wes') vocal styling mimicks cobain to the T on that song.

is a great guitarist (Listen to what he did with Ozzy on Prince of Darkness, great soulful solos and playing) and his solo stuff with Trujillo and Bordin is great. Alice in Chains ruled of course.

"the "she hates me" song is a blatant ripoff of Suicidal's "I Saw Your Mommy""

Never paid attention, but I guess you're absolutely right.

I don't imagine Scantlin being a long time fan of Suicidal Tendencies though...

How in the world do you guys think She hates Me is like I Saw Your Mommy ??? I'm totally confused??? I don't get it ??? Completely different music and lyrics.

I love Puddle of Mudd and they are great live. This should be some good stuff.

Jerry would get back with Mike Inez and Sean Kinney and put Alice in Chains back together.

close the circle. nobody is ever going to be able to replace Layne, so dont bring anybody else in. Jerry should do vox.

I'm just happy there's finally something new going on for Jerry. Who cares that Wes isnt the greatest singer in the world? Half of the "rock" bands don't have a great singer and they get along with that fact...

Why is he wasting his time with this no-talent DIPSHIT?

I agree with MsMetal - no one can replace Layne Staley.

Let Jerry be Jerry!!...(my response to the outpouring of criticism that's been posted here so far about his side bands/projects). He knows as well as I know (as all AIC fans probably do too); that nobody ever will replace the beloved and truly rich and beautifully haunting and soulful voice of a man known as Layne! Which is probably what drives him(Jerry) to branch out and try on other expressions of his untapped talents.{esp. music that's LEAST- like Alice in Chains style; as to NOT be continually reminded of Layne's permanent absence} And, personally, I feel also; that he likes to keep busy enough , because I think if he didn't ; the true weight of the reality of losing his other "musical-half", would really set in and be too much for him to handle at this point. Everybody grieves loss of life in their own way and in their own time. In closing, I'd like to add this thought: I would love to see Jerry Cantrell team up musically with MIKE PATTON of Faith No More someday!!!
