According to a posting on the Rock N Roll Experience web site, actor/rapper Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who fronts WICKED WISDOM, rapped/jammed with BURY YOUR DEAD during the last song of the band's set at Ozzfest 2005 on Sunday, July 24 at the Nissan Pavillion in Bristow, Virginia. Check out a photo of the "jam" at this location (fourth photo from top). Commented Rock N Roll Experience webmaster Bob Suehs about WICKED WISDOM's inclusion on the Ozzfest 2005 bill: " WICKED WISDOM DOES NOT belong on the Ozzfest bill! Sharon....what were you thinking?!? Jack, tell your Mommy that WICKED WISDOM is not real metal!!!! Jada Pinkett should be acting, NOT pretending to be all hardcore and dirty looking...I bet her clothes were made to look dirty! Will Smith should not have been on ANY stage at Ozzfest... He's a million-dollar actor and rap star. Do what you do, but don't insult the metal fans by faking it! Okay...I've said my peace. Jada Pinkett also has her lyrics/rhymes taped to the stage [for your information]! I'm NOT slamming WICKED WISDOM or Jada for no good reasons, I just didn't feel that band was legit with the rest of the bill... it really is irritating to see some rich actress 'acting' metal on the same stage that a bunch of guys who have been living on the edge for years just to get that 20 min. spot. best-case scenario a band's frontperson is giving an honest performance, putting out some honest emotion and experience into it, usually expressing some twisted miserable shit. maybe jada had to struggle in her early years to be an actress, but that was ages ago, and its not the same thing in my mind - wanting to be a pop idol and wanting to be some ugly guy who pours his guts out on stage, lives on a bus, gives up relaionships, normalcy, etc. for peanuts. sure they might be selfish egomaniacs too, but the rewards have been far less material than for jada. so when she gets out there looking like shit on purpose and dropping 'f-bombs' left and right - not only is it unconvincing, its insulting.
ps. at least dogstar are an established act!

sure, why get talented bands like Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Gamma Ray and Stratovarius? when you can get poser, trendy, corny rap rock shit bag bands like wicked wisdom and other Hot Topic bands to populate Ozzfest. could Ozzfest be more clueless as to what true metal is???

The fact that Jada Pinkett "fakes it" or is rich or is married to Will Smith is totally irrelevant. A lot of these metal bands that live on "the edge" are full of shit too. The real issue is that Ozzfest was started to be the metal alternative to Lollapallooza and now that it has become THE summer music festival, it's becomming Lollapallooza. I went to the first two Ozzfests and they were unreal. Then bands like Linkin Park and Crazy Town were added. Wicked Wisdom may be a better band than both, but the fact remains that this is a metal festival for metal fans and should ONLY include metal bands regardless of financial stability. The only other Ozzfest I should have gone to was last years. I am going this year but more bands like Dark Tranquillity, Opeth, Obituary, Arch Enemy, Slayer, Slipknot, etc. should be playing not mainstream radio pop with a tuned down guitar.

sorry mr. bob, but half or more of the ozzfest bill isnt metal. neither is bury your dead. so what's the difference in some celebrity's band being on the bill? for the last time, ozzfest isn't a metal festival. it's just a commercial cash machine that happens to have a few metal names on the list. last time i checked, crazy train and velvet revolver aren't metal either. i doubt anybody at some 2nd rate site like "rock n roll experience" knows what theyre talking about. they probably picked up the last edition of metal edge, or some other fake-metal zine. and since when are most people attending ozzfest metal fans?

I was at the VA show yesterday, and here's my 2 cents:
We got there around 1000ish and missed Arch Enemy. Why the fuck is Arch Enemy going on at 930? Please explain the logic to me. Anyway, we caught The Haunted's set, and it was killer, high energy stuff. Wicked Wisdom was pure shit. I listened to 30 seconds of that crap and headed to the autograph tents to meet The Haunted. Soilwork put on a great show and sounded very good. Hadn't really heard a Dozen Furies before, but they too sounded very very good and put on a hell of a show. Mastodon was easily one of the day's highlights. These guys are going to be huge. Seeing the dual lead guitar attack reminded me of seeing old footage of James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine dueling it out on stage.
As I Lay Dying put on a very energetic show. Killswitch Engage was second only to Maiden that day. Adam D. is simply a riot. Short shorts and a Batman cape? hahaha. really puts the whole "i'm so evil and tough" metal mentality in perspective...and I quote Adam D - "you guys think you're so fucking metal out there? Well I'm in short shorts and a cape....fuck you!" Classic. Good to see someone with a sense of humor who can also kick the shit out of a crowd. Zombie was very good, but didn't catch all of it because we were heading over to the mainstage.
In Flames sounded great and it was cool to see them on the mainstage, even though a lot of people missed them while they were filing into the mainstage area. Still, the only "older" song they played was "Pinball Map". Would have liked to see some shit off Colony or Jester Race at least. BLS was good, very standard. Shadows Fall destroyed the place, one of the highlights of the day. Only saw the last 2 songs of Mudvayne. They didn't sound that great, bleh.
Iron Maiden: what can be said? the 2nd greatest performance I have ever seen in my life. The best? Maiden at Madison Square Garden in 2000. Everyone knew that Sabbath was fucked. Sabbath came out to a great response, but Ozzy killed it. He simply sounded awful. Granted, he said he was sick....but I think he's done. He should really do himself a favor and bow out now. Iommi, Butler, and Ward sounded great. But in all honesty, following a set like Maiden's was just asking for it. Maiden made Sabbath look like tired old men.
All in all, great show. Expect Killswitch Engage and Mastodon to graduate to the main stage with their next releases.

it is mind boggling to me that bands like Stinkin Park, Lincoln Log whatever you want to call em, Silly Town, all these bands 14 year olds like can get on the festival and the ones that have been around for year, and have talent cant.

I was excited to see ozzfest before I read that, now I'm totally pumped! Gonna see In Flames in St. Louis on Friday, then drive up to Chicago to see em at ozzfest the next day. I can't wait!

I saw the pics from the 1st Ozzfest show in Mansfield, MA and couldn't believe that they went back to the makeup after saying they were through with it. Unbelievable. Make up your F'n minds already. Maybe they wanted to do a big show for the crowd, but they just look like a joke with makeup on.

I miss the days of Ozzfest being about bands like The Union Underground... not Linkin Park, Mudvayne and Wicked Wisdom... that's such an original band name, by the way. Too much shit is being shoved down the concert-goers throat.

Sure, from a pure metal fans prespective, Ozzfest doesn't compare to the great European festivals, but if you think about it, they are doing something that is very smart. Where on earth can decent metal bands get a chance to play in front of the fans of crappy/popular acts. Watch the sales of Arch Enemy, In Flames, Mastodon, The Hunted and Iron Maiden go through the roof (compared to their normal level) in the USA as the summer continues. Last year Lacuna Coil, playing an early morning slot, managed to push almost 300,000 US copies of an album that had been out of two years already. How often does a two year old album crack the billboard?
I suggest less complaining, and more support for the good bands that do make the bill. Go get a beer when Mudvayne takes the stage. Show the promoters what real metal fans want.

hate to break it to you ptrick but union underground played ozzfest the same year as linkin park did. ozzfest has never said they play only metal they play whats popular at the time(example: all these underground bands that everyone is talking about) but i hope all you guys know ozzfest is going to be way diferent if there is another one next year they gave you guys a pretty good line up and all you guys have done is cry because they put two or three bands you dont like on it. second stage bands have always gotten 20 minute sets, and ozzfest has two throw a couple of mainstream bands on the bill because they are the ones who sell most of the tickets how many people besides you internet turds actually know who arch enemy or black dahlia muder is. they aint going to make it no farther than this.

yeah will smith is about 3 years too late. the whole rap rock thing has faded out, for the most part.
but anyways everyones saying there should be a real metal festival for metal heads, and i agree, but how bout a festival of both metal and such and some fushion/jazz and maybe a little progressive rock. nothing beats good ol al di meola.

i was at ozzfest yesterday as well. i went there to see:
arch enemy- didnt see them due to their early time slot
black dahlia murder- they were good but the bass was turned up too high, so they sounded like shit.
mastodon- they were energetic and played well, but the bass and toms were turned up too high.
iron maiden- bruce really got the crowd going, he is one hell of a front man. ozzy should take some notes.
black sabbath- they sound pretty good. ozzy has no charisma, he throw a couple of bucket of water at the crowd. i only stayed for 3 songs and took off to beat the traffic.
half the bands on the second stage sounded the same. if you gave me their cd's, i couldnt tell you who is who from their music.
i was kind of disappointed until iron maiden took the stage. at that point i felt like i got my money's worth.

since when has there been a certain way we have to look or act or smell like just to be able to like metal. i think Jada is awesome for being up there on stage and expressing herself. We need to stop stereotyping people and let everyone be themselves. i understand everyone has an opinion and that is cool. but shouldn't we as metaheads be giving them our devilhorns for at least getting up there everymorning and giving us what they got?

will NEVER EVER be anything I want it to be. Sure they have maybe one or two bands that are damn good, but chances are, ive already seen them before. when speaking to George Fisher and Alex Webster about the possibility of them doing Ozzfest, they said it would be a great way to recieve MASSIVE exposure, regardless of sellout status if they played it, in the end, they'd make some money. The thing is, even if they did make it to play ozzfest, ive seen them many times before, and 3 good bands is not worth a 60 + dollar ticket. in the end Ozzfest will never be a full day of TRUE metal, becuase it just can't do it. It won't ever happen ever. the TRUE METAL FEST concerts don't travel from state to state sadly, there are a few good day long events and even multiple day events in the states, but are nothing im comparison to the MASSIVE fests held in Europe. Ozzfest will NEVER EVER catch those fests, and shouldn't try. For all of us Americans who are TRUE METALHEADS, don't bother even thinking about ozzfest, start saving your money and head for WACKEN!

His music has always sucked. His acting is marginal at best.
The Fresh Prince is on 24-7 re runs, and they suck.
He is easily one of the most overated, overexposed people on Earth.

While it doesn't surprise me that BLS rocked as usual at Ozzfest as did Maiden,Priest and mostly anyone on the main stage I find it rather ironic that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett came on stage. Hell I stopped listening to Will Smith's music about 5 years ago or so almost totally but atleast he's going out there,giving it 110% and trying to expand his horizons. He is a very good actor as all his movies I have seem to be VERY good and actually one of the better rappers of our time.
The thing is with rap I grew tired of it as for Jada she's an alright actress and extremely fine looking but considering the horizons in which Ozzfest was made to originally explore this seemed rather unacceptable but considering the crappy quality at Ozzfest in recent years this doesn't shock me in the slightest but atleast give them credit for coming out and trying to entertain the people that came to see the show.
Kudos to Jada and Will.

It seems like you guys only like bands from Europe. Dude, I love Dimmu, Children of Bodom, and Arch Enemy too, but fuck, there is some sick shit here too. First off, ya'll are high, Mudvayne is sick. I know they don't sound very good outside on the mainstage but neither does anyone else. I saw them at the Fillmore and they fucking ruled! Ozzfest needs some death metal too, bring out Cannibal, or Morbid Angel or Suffocation. Why hasn't Machine Head been on again, or Exodus? Or how about a touring version of James Murphy's Death tribute, that would be sick!

i was at the first few ozzfest dates with bury your dead. will smith is a genuniely nice dude who has basically been hanging out with these dudes since the tour started, enjoying their music and the music of the other bands on the tour. mark from byd taught will how to two step and will has vowed to mosh before the tour is over. basically hes just a really chill dude. hes there to support his wife and have a good time.
as for jada, her band may suck, but just leave her be. i witnessed her first hand watching mastodon from the side of the stage singing along to every single song. she knows her shit. give her a break. if you dont like her band dont watch them, go do something else during their set and stop bitching.

sorry guys, metal isnt about image or wealth, its about the music. if they have a passion for metal, who cares? who cares if they suck or not? all that matters is its cool that they are at least trying and love heavy music.
all of you should embrace different kinds of people getting into metal.

you wouldnt see many real metal bands on tour with hard core rappers
everyone knows how close minded metal fans are
i have to respect they even show up
and theyre as good as Otep

Ok, let me get this straight. Will Smith,whose music I do not care for in the least, and his wife, show up at a metal show to have some fun and the "metal community" pans it as being someone getting their 15 minutes? Um, in case you haven't checked, these two don't NEED their 15 minutes. They are two of the most famous people in the world. And so what if they have other interests besides acting, or rap? I know loads of what you idiots would call "true" metal fans that are also hardcore hip hop fans. What's with the attitude? In the '80's, all the metal fans panned rock radio because they weren't accepted in the mainstream, now they hate the mainstream b/c bands who become such have sold out, and they felt ostrasized from the rest of the world because people viewed them as different. Why can't you accept a little change and have some fun with it? Metal fans,or at least the jackasses on this site, are so fucking possessive about their "metal only" tags. "THIS IS A FUCKING METAL SITE, (INSERT NAME HERE) FUCKING SUCKS AND SHOULD NOT BE ON THIS SITE", OR "OZZFEST IS A METAL FESTIVAL AND (INSERT NAME HERE) SHOULD NOT BE AT THIS CONCERT". What ever happened to being a little more open minded you fucks? If you don't like it, move on. You are not expected to like EVERY band that goes on stage at a travelling festival.
WEREN'T FESTIVALS STARTED TO OPEN PEOPLE'S EYES AND EXPOSE THEIR LITTLE MINDS TO NEW MUSIC?
OR MAYBE JUST TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND NOT JUDGE EVERY PERSON THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM YOU????

with bands like primus, the used and andrew w.k., ozzfest has not been an all metal fest in a very long time so all you hair flailing to the death metal lovers should really stop complaining and just enjoy the bands that are metal, the world is too mixed up for purists anymore.

oh, and for all you bury your dead haters, i've got news. THEY ARE NOT A METAL BAND. they are pure hard core brutality and at least they try to get people involved in what they're doing on stage instead of standing around acting like gods. The fact that they'd perform with pop-hoppers just goes to show the fact that they have enough open-minded dynamic to progress instead of floundering in the stagnant ocean of sound alikes and minor thirds. cehck out their live DVD and see what an intimate and powerful performance is all about, the inverse of stadium grade hysteria. Anyone here who doesn't understand the appeal of hardcore like throwdown, terror hatebreed or bury your dead should keep their metal mouths shut.
