H.I.M., MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE Confirmed For First U.S. DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL

Billboard magazine is reporting that H.I.M. and MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE are among the bands that have been confirmed for the first U.S. edition of the U.K.'s Download Festival, set for Oct. 8 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. Headlining the festival will be THE KILLERS, with MODEST MOUSE, the ARCADE FIRE and DOVES also on the bill.
Like the U.K. version of the event, which drew 150,000 people this year to London's Donnington Park, the U.S. edition will offer cutting-edge technology and media experiences.
Last year's festival, with LINKIN PARK, METALLICA, KORN, SUM 41 and IGGY POP on the bill, grossed $7.3 million, the 10th highest gross of the year, according to Billboard Boxscore.

Don't think there's that many people that would go see the Killers as headliners...I hope there's more bands than the ones posted playing, otherwise it'll be a bust...

i'm probably gonna take some flak for this....but the Killers are actually pretty good. My girlfriend dragged me to a show of theirs with Louis XIV, and they actually put on a pretty entertaining show. For what its worth, they write good pop songs. With that being said....there's no way that they can carry a headlining spot at a festival. They simply don't have the material to do it. I mean, when I saw them, they played for barely 40 minutes.
Now, initially I had a beef with the whole "retro-rock" look. You know, where they all wear suits and shit and try to look like the early Beatles and whatnot. My thoughts were, "what's this uniform gimmick bullshit?" Just fucking get up there in normal clothes and rock. Except........ then i remembered that I listen to black metal....and if anyone is gonna be accused of having a stage "uniform" and having to fit into something, its gonna be black metal. I'm sorry, I love the music, and seeing the corpse paint and spikes are entertaining. However, its almost as if it has become a vital and required part of the scene. For once, I'd like to see a group play black metal dressed in shorts and t-shirts. To quote Anthrax: "5 guys in shorts...who gives a shit? We do what we like we don't care where we fit"

Oh and after those few bands you mentioned for the UK Download, you forgot to mention the scores of crap bands inbetween.
Besides doesn't the US already have Ozzfest? Theres little difference between that and UK Download.

I wonder if the haters have even bothered to listen to any of the bands in question. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of Him, or of The Killers. But dismiss the entire concert out of hand with ad hominum attacks? Pathetic. Mindless Self Indulence has much or more creativity than any bands you want to put them up against. Are they pure metal? No, but I admire them and their music, (And you have to admit, with a quote like "...I like my coffee black, just like my metal." you know they're absolutely over the top) and I think it is a shame that people won't even try something a little different.
That being said, Other than possibly HIM and MSI, are these metal bands? Anyone who pointed out that this really isn't a metal concert has a valid point. And I agree, this news release probably shouldn't be here. But everyone who became so incensed that they stopped looking at their pr0n and posted their obtuse and illinformed rants, STFU.

Doves, Modest Mouse and The Arcade Fire are all indie bands. They are beyond hopeless. People will see through this scam of using the Download name. I bet no visitor to Blabbermouth would stand even five minutes listening to crap like this.

MSI, and HIM are my favorites.... modest mouse older stuff isnt bad. i dont like most the stuff that hit mtv that u hear about 500 times. ive heard of the killers.... and alot of my friends say they suck. the other 2 i have no idea who they are but i could careless.
to :insayneklown ... kinda funny your gonna tell jimmy urine to suck a dick considering he does like men. (im gonna guess u dont know who jimmy urine is... the singer for msi.)
