According to
Led-Zeppelin.com, the Hammersmith Palais rocked on Sunday night (July 24) with ten absolutely awesome performances of an extraordinary level of guitar playing for the
Riffathon charity guitar competition final.
Jimmy Page (
LED ZEPPELIN) and
Brian May (
QUEEN) were judging the show, along with
Dan Hawkins from
THE DARKNESS. They were all blown away by the high standard, and the decision to find a winner was proven extremely difficult.
Martin Tomkins from Kettering stole the show and first prize with his awe-inspiring performance of
LED ZEPPELIN's
"Rock & Roll". He couldn't get the grin off his face all night — especially after being presented a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top, which he called a "dream guitar," by
Jimmy Page, who introduced the winner as "this guy without doubt played it (
'Rock n' Roll') better than I have done." Check out a photo at
