Drunk Heavy Metal Fan Dies In Accident At Germany's WACKEN OPEN AIR Festival

A 37-year-old heavy metal fan was killed in a tragic accident at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival early Friday morning (August 5). The accident reportedly occured at about 12:25 a.m. on the Bokelrehmer Weg near the adjoining camping ground. An apparently very drunk festival attendee from Rendsburg was walking in the bushes near the road with a friend. As he emerged, he tumbled and fell backwards. In the fall, he hit the side of an ambulance driving past at slow speed. The Rendsburg man was critically injured, and despite immediate medical attention, was pronounced dead a short time later at Itzehoe medical clinic. The 43-year-old ambulance driver and his partner, as well as the friend of the victim, suffered shock and received psychological counselling.

here in Michigan that took place on Memorial Day Weekend 2004. Some guy was drunk as fuck and he wanted to be funny and do something on a train track, well would you believe it, the bastard actually got hit by a train? And lived for that matter! He was creeping off the tracks, when he got slammed by the steps that are on the side, fucking bastard is lucky as hell to be alive.

Here's the difference between America and Europe, and the reason I want to move to Europe as soon as I can: If this happened in America, we'd have a full-blown "investigation into what just *really* happened on that fateful night", and they'd have to step up security tenfold (half of them to actually keep things secure, the other half to ream us up the ass when we're entering the place), and make things inconvenient for everyone. In Europe, people get treated like adults, and if one person fucks up, HE pays for it, and not everyone as a whole. Yeah, I'm a little salty this morning...

Could happen to any of us...It's a festival, Beer is Compulsary, why only this weekend, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have even noticed walking into an Ambulance at the TMF Rock Festival...
I totally agree with thejoeinme, Although the UK is getting just as bad now....anything like that and it's eight weeks of 'enquiry' followed by some Draconian measure aimed at protecting people from pretty much living.

That's really too bad man. I can relate because I have done many stupid fucking things drunk and have injured myself. All you can do is look back and say "Hey, it looked like a good idea at the time". I do feel sorry for him and his family though. That is not the way I want to go, although being drunk would have made it a hell of alot better to go.

I am American and I was at Wacken this year. The way the road is set up is very narrow and the vehicles move VERY slowly as they have to give way for all the metalheads on them. The only way this could have happened was purely accident brought on by a series of unfortuantely timed events. It's a damn shame that any of our metal brothers die and I wish all of those invovled nothing but the best. That being said, it was just an unfortunate accident.
