It's Official: HEATHEN Guitarist LEE ALTUS Joins EXODUS
- Aug. 9, 2005
|
|
|
As widely expected, veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS have now officially announced the addition of guitarist Lee Altus (HEATHEN, ex-DIE KRUPPS) to the group's ranks. "Lee has been a great friend of mine for many years and is also one of the greatest guitarist I've had the pleasure of knowing," EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt said in a statement. "He was not only the best guy for this job, he was the only one. No one else was ever considered. His leads are totally ripping on the new album and I am looking very much forward to working with him on new music soon. He is a rhythm crusher as well as a shred machine so things are going to be heavy as hell! We start rehearsals Wednesday and I can't wait. My moving is done and I am chomping at the bit to get the show on the road."
EXODUS recently parted ways with guitarist Rick Hunolt due to Rick's desire to concentrate on his family life.
As previously reported, EXODUS have set "Shovel Headed Kill Machine" as the title of their upcoming album, due on October 5 via Nuclear Blast Records. Recorded at Trident studios in Pacheco, California and mixed by Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, ARCH ENEMY), the follow-up to 2004's "Tempo of the Damned" is the band's first to feature Altus, ex-SLAYER drummer Paul Bostaph and new singer Rob Dukes.

To answer JBodak, Rick didn't play on the new album, Gary did all the rhythm tracks, looks like Lee played some solos though which should be great as he is a fucking master!
Sorry to see you go Rick, you will be missed.

Hope the new singer doesn't sound like Bon Souza.

Im sure this album will slay all but a name change is indeed needed. Should just call the band "Shovel headed killing machine" and make it a self titled debut.

Why, WHY must Heathen be put on hold for any length of time for this piece of shit band? Sorry, but Heathen were the ONLY band with any desire to make REAL thrash, and now it'll have to wait, at best, so Exodus can shit out another turd laden groove coaster. Just. Fucking. Stop.

Tons of metal musicians are in more than one band. I don't see where that matters. A name change isn't necessary IMO either.
HAILS RICK! you will be missed ...but HELLO LEE!

I can't wait to hear the new album as I thought Tempo Of The Damned was a long overdue return to form BUT as Gary is the only remaining original member of the band it surely dilutes the essence of what was Exodus to continue under the name? Most tellingly there doesn't seem to be any resistance to Gary continuing with the name from the "surviving" ex-members so if the're OK with it maybe we (the fans) should be OK but it doesn't sit right with me!

If ANY of you knew anything about Exo you would know that Gary IS Exodus and the other "surviving" members of Exo own nothing of the Song Catalogue the name rights or shit. The only member with nearly as much time in the band was Rick Hunolt, and after 20 years he had had enough. Lovely to see so many absolutely clueless "fans" commenting on the most innane topics. Go to a fan site such as Allmusic.com and find out for yourself. Paul Balof was a friend of mine I miss him, as is Rick Hunolt. Point is Gary always kept Exodus going and now EXO is still putting out superb Thrash Metal!! Listen to Children of a Worthless God on the new CD!!!
