Rowdy 311/PAPA ROACH Concert Could Cost Man An Eye

ChannelCincinnati.com is reporting that a 22-year-old man might lose his left eye after a rowdy 311/ PAPA ROACH concert Monday (August 15) at Riverbend in Cincinnati, Ohio. [Watch a News 5 video report at this location.] "I can't sleep, can't eat because medicine makes me sick. It's terrible," Nicolas Holmes said of the injury ( photo) that left him with 12 stitches. Now Holmes said he’s planning to sue the venue for what he says is a lack of security. He told News 5's Emily Longnecker that one minute he was standing around, waiting for the band 311 to take the stage. "It turned into chaos all around us," Holmes said. He said that about 50 people started a mosh pit near him and his friends. "We get pushed over. Next thing you know, when I'm trying to get up, that's when I was struck. Just instant pain. It was bleeding all over my face. I couldn't see out of both eyes because there was blood everywhere," Holmes said. Holmes' friends told him they saw the person who hit him, and he said they even gave a description to Riverbend management. "They didn't want to do nothing. They just wanted me to leave the park," Holmes said. He told News 5 that Riverbend offer to refund him only half the price of his ticket. "We provide a safe environment for concert goers. We always have. We've been open for 21 years," Riverbend’s general manager Matt Dunn said. But Holmes said that’s the last time he’ll ever attend a concert there. News 5 found 11 police reports since June filed at the venue, most of them having to do with petty thefts and one relating to disorderly conduct.

yeah 311 does suck but can you imagine if you assholes had your eye fucked up or one of your bastard kids eyes fucked up....youd be singing a different song.
this is fucked up and people who go to concerts nowadays are fucking pricks...i havent been to a concert in like 2 years because of the assholes there and with dimebag getting shot and that prick who stabbed that guy at the COC show (or whatever band it was)

Seriously, though, it's not funny. Well, octoberforrest made it funny, but *before* that it wasn't funny. I'm sick of these fake hardcore motherfuckers getting their storebought aggression out by punching air at concerts. What did air ever do to you, angry hardcore guy? And sometimes something gets between the angry hardcore guy and the air, like someone's face perhaps. This is where trouble starts. thats fucked up. Reminds me of that story where zakk wylde just hurled his guitar at the crowd (and another guitarist or bassist did at another show but the name escapes me). they need to have some common sense. good thing you whacked him.
I've had my lip split open by a mohawked hardcore kid at ozzfest before. but other than that i just get bruises and the like from being in the pit. Stuff will happen. need to keep your eyes open (no pun intended) and try to be alert as possible. Now obviously you cant' always be. I am always on the floor and usually right in front of the stage or within three layers of it. I always get hit in the back by people. I don't really like it, but if the pit is right behind you just have to take the blows of people who get slung into you.
I'd rather have a pit, and energy at a show. I WOULD NOT LIKE security surrounding the floor totally stopping any remotely rowdy behaviour. Would be weak as hell to just have to stand upright and wave your arms like some boyband concert.
This guy suffered an accident. He was on the floor and got caught in a pit. Now for 311...maybe a bit of a surprise (though i have heard they often have large mosh pits from idiot nu-metallers i've known) If not for 311 Papa Roach would surely have a pack of surly teenagers swinging their cocks around.
As for sueing the venue. Just a sypmtom of the litigation nation. You get injured you start smelling money. Sucks that his eye got hurt, but accidents happen. The venue should not be held accountable and the person who actually hit him probably did so by accident as well.

I wouldn't call it a mosh pit but I was just a few feet back from the stage on their Somewhere in Time tour. We were mashed in there so tight that I was able to lift my legs off of the floor and hover. Then the crowd pushed forward and my feet were pinned to the back of my ass. I was stuck like that for around ten minutes before I could get my feet back on the ground.
Good thing I was baked.

Liking 311 or Papa Roach is besides the point. It was a rock show and they tend to get rowdy at times, common fucking sense. Hell one of my buddies lost his front teeth at an Exodus show. He got right back in there. The point you could probably walk away with is shit like this happens enough and you'll start seeing ticket prices sky-rocket even more than they already are. If you don't want to be part of a pit....then move the fuck away from it dumbass. If it was 50 people moshing, then surely you saw it coming.

I don't hate 311, but sampled a couple of the new songs from the MYSPACE.com/311 page and the new CD sounds like a 15% change of the sound to be more mainstream.
Honestly I didn't like those few songs all that much.
I'll buy the upcoming Flashlight Brown instead, they are more punk-ish and less rocksteady...
I really don't care about P.Roach.

Anyone who'll listen to Beautiful Disaster and not like it is a complete moron. It's one of the best songs ever written. Metal or not. Over the last few years, they've gotten a lot mellower and definitely more appealing to the younger audience. But that doesn't mean all of their songs are reggae/ska, though. Listen to "Solar Flares" from the new "Don't Tread On Me" CD and you'll see what I'm talking about. That's a great song, even with SA doing most of the singing/rapping.
While I feel pretty bad for this dude, I don't think he should've been in a pit if he wasn't ready to rumble. I've been to many concerts where there were brutal pits going on and being a short skinny guy, I've always tried to stay out of them, knowing damn well that I'd get my ass kicked if I were anywhere near it. It's still jacked up what happened to this guy, though. Hope his eye gets better.
