VOIVOD Guitarist Is 'Very Ill'

VOIVOD's official web site has been updated with the following message:
"Our good friend and guitar hero Denis D'Amour (a.k.a. Piggy) is very ill. We are helping Denis in every way that we can to feel comfortable while he fights to get healthy. Denis is a very private person and does not want to make a big deal about his illness, so we will not be able to answer questions about his condition or give any other details at this time. We appreciate your understanding.

VOIVOD recently inked a U.S. deal with The End Records. The band are expected to enter the studio in the fall of 2005 to begin recording their eleventh studio album, tentatively due in early 2006.
VOIVOD, who will be issuing first DVD in October covering the band's original lineup period (1983-1991), are tentatively planning on releasing two more DVDs during the coming months. "DVOD-2" will contain footage shot during the Eric Forrest era of the band, while "DVOD-3" will cover the band's current lineup, which includes former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted (a.k.a. Jasonic).

Get well, Denis. Voivod are one of the few truly innovative and original rock bands and you are a hell of a guitarist.
I already emailed him - you all should do the same.
And to moshpitmatty...this is not a good forum for Jason-bashing, you should go somewhere else.

what are you smokin'? Are you telling me that 'Doomsday for the Deceiver' and 'No Place for Disgrace' are shit? You may hate Newsted, but he was still a big part of one of the best thrash albums of all time. Flotsam died when he left. Besides, this thread is not about him. Get well Piggy!

Jason is a very talented songwriter and musician who never got his due or opportunity to contribute this talent in Metallica. He was smart in leaving that pitiful corporate machine that tries to pass itself off as a metal band. Long live Jason.
Fight the good fight Piggy, we will pray for you. Yours is a severely underrated and unsung talent. Hang in there and I will see on the road sometime soon when you are fully recovered.

I actually remember that he had been diagnosed with cancer back in the Dimension Hatross era, shit that was the late 80's. I actually met him in Cleveland when they were touring with vio-lence, and he and snake were really cool. Get well piggy, you are clearly a survivor, and a truely unique artist

i hope he gets better. it would be a sad ass world without him and voivod. i own all their cd's, and away and the rest of the band are a great inspiration to me as a musician and a person. long live piggy!

I remember, and it must at least been about 15 years ago, reading a brief message that Denis had cancer. No kidding. I hope it is not showing it's ugly head again! Get well soon man!!!
