FEAR FACTORY: 'Transgression' Fails To Live Up To Expectations - Aug. 31, 2005
FEAR FACTORY's latest CD, "Transgression", sold 19,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release (according to Nielsen SoundScan) to debut at position No. 45 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart. This is substantially less than the first-week number registered by its predecessor, "Archetype", which sold 32,000 copies back in April 2004 to enter the Billboard chart at No. 30.

FEAR FACTORY entered Track Record Studios in North Hollywood, California on May 5 with producer Toby Wright (ALICE IN CHAINS, KORN, SOULFLY) to begin recording the follow-up to "Archetype". In addition to Wright, there is a list of guest musicians collaborating on "Transgression", including bass player Billy Gould of FAITH NO MORE fame. Billy contributes to two songs: "Echo of My Scream" and "Supernova". Also included on "Transgression" is "New Promise", which was co-written with Mark Morton of LAMB OF GOD.

Pretty lame cd. New Nevermore, Between The Buried And Me, Opeth, Hypocrisy, Sentenced, and even the new Bodom crush this cd in half.

Get a new guitarist, FF might be good.

"I mean, this band totally lost anything they might have had when they decided to re-release 'demanufacture'.

What were they thinking at the moment?

It's beyond me."

If you knew anything about the music industry and took a look at Roadrunner Records track histroy, FF had nothing to do with the re-release of Demanufacture it was a record label choice and RR loves to re-release shit 6 months afterwords with "bonus" material to milk their bands fan base.

As for Obsolete, I hate to break it to you but hollywood did not invent the machine over man story, try reading those book things once in awhile

ya Digi could've been better but hey what are you going to do.

FF rock and the new album while not the best they have ever done has some great stuff on it

Everyone fan in every FF album since Demanufacture always says...FF sucks, FF are a losers, FF bla bla bla. FF owns all that, because they did every king of things in the past and if they probably were doing all the albuns like demanufacture they only repeat themselves, Trangression isn't a bad album, has a lot of experimental stuff but still is FF, every album is a diferent story...nuff said. Hope they keep doing more and more albuns.

At first I was very dissapointed listening to Transgression but now it really starts to grow on me. It's certainly not their best effort but still a very good album. Haven't heard the song 'My Grave' yet though!

Oh, and fuck record sales, they tell you absolute nothing about the quality of music!

well no surprises here. They haven't written a cool guitar riff in years. Archetype sucked too. Again, no decent riffs at all.

They've lost it, totally. Disappointed.

the cd has one or 2 high points if you can calll them that, i say that cuz im not sure if they seem goos or are just better than most the earshit they flushed on this cd. it always happens in 3s

(remeber 96?! load, trust, and load. load is worthy of 2 shitty cds cuz metallica was once a great band....THE greatest band, but fuck them now as i say lars is a fagand you know whats for you know what)

i missed alota cds this year so i dunno if fearfactorys cd is the first of the 3 or what

Most of the songs sound like leftover ideas from 'Archetype', even the album cover is leftover artwork from the 'Bite The Hand That Bleeds' single, from the dude who did the '30 Days Of Night' book. I fuckin' love Fear Factory, but there's no point in defending the obvious, and 'Transgression' is just kinda' lame compared to their back catalog, and the other wicked new albums that came out this year.

But this CD has some sort of talent or requires a minimum music knowledge. Giving it a ZERO is total bullshit, but you ARE Cassanova (aka troll) so I'm not surprised.

I don't say it's the best FF, but they wanted to try something else, so be it. You people want FF to write the same albums over and over. That's not possible. Even ACDC make slight changes when they make a new record. It's still ACDC but ... oh well

i think it's a good solid album.
i agree a few more sounds could have been on the more agressive side.
but i do like the album a lot. hell even the U2 cover isn't bad.
if you think fear factory HAS to write demanufacture or obsolete over and over again to be sucessful..whatever.. you know how dull that'll get after a while? if you think they should do certain things.. then you start up a band and do it.
get off their backs.. you don't like it then don't listen to it. they're doing what they feel like doing.. if you looked up fear factory in the musical dictionary it's not gonna say
"bad that will always be hard and fast and heavy ALL the time"
that's band's like slayer.. and by the way that's not a knock cause i'm a huge slayer fan too.. but that's a slayer thing
fear factory is different. every album has been different and they're going to continue to be different. they've proved they can do whatever they wish.
ok i'm done.
i've defended my band
and none of you care..
i'm going to class
peace!

Umm, I think you're forgetting Opeth made an album called "Damnation", which they really kept an open mind when making. Some fans didn't have an open mind and dismissed the album...but in fact it's one of the most intelligent records of this century imo.

How about Sentenced? They went from a total Death Metal outfit to a more Depressive Metal/Rock band. Lots of experimentations there. Obviously needing an open mind to do that.

So basically maybe you should open your mind before you spout out falisies about bands you know nothing about. Sure Fear Factory took a chance with Transgression, but failed terribly. I loved Archetype, it was truly a gift to the fans, but seriously there's not much you can do with a rhythm guitarist. The riffs tend to get boring really fast. And Dino wasn't always good in the first place, I'm glad he's gone. But it wasn't the riffs that got me into FF, mostly the Vocals and Drums (which aren't that great on Transgression either).

Ok, it fails to live up to expectations because it didn't tear up the charts like "Obsolete?"

Who gives a shit? It may not hold a candle to their previous albums but it's still a solid release...my only complaint is that out of (I think) 12 tracks, only 8 are real ass-kickers and two of those 8 are cover tunes ("I Will Follow" and "Millenium")...but in any event, FF still rule...

Well, I love Fear Factory, and I always have. You people that DO NOT like Fear Factory might need to open your minds a little. People, not everyone are your "hardcore death metal metalheads" ok, I've liked every album they have ever made. I listen to in my eyes incredibly heavy music such as Dimmu Borgir, Slayer, or Unearth for example. I have tried listening to this Six Feet Under, Cannibal Corpse hardcore death metal shit and I just simply don't like the vocals ok. Granted they have great musical talent. That seems to be the problem with you people whom bash Fear Factory because they still don't live in the early to mid 90's. I'm sorry but I want to listen to people who actually sing somewhat, I don't want to listen to my fucking Dad snoring in the middle of the night. That's just my opinion. I know there are millions whom listen to those bands and i have nothing against them. But, to make things clearer, please try to have an open mind, even if you don't like the music there are plenty more who are. You people here are the fucking Republicans of the music industry and have closed minds about music. You think, well if it isn't fucking Sentenced, then it isn't fucking good, and that is totally not fucking right! To top it off we know what closed mindedness gets us and thats $5.87 cents a gallon for fucking gas in Georgia! I'm not trying to preach polotics I'm just stating a case and an example here for you all to think about a little. Do you get my drift? If you don't that's fine. I just saw this smack talk and I decided to put my 2 cents worth in. :|

I'm curious to find out how many of you who are dissing the album have either bought it or downloaded it for free. Also I'm sure that if you ran into any of the guys in the band you'd all be kissing their asses for autographs saying how great the album was instead of saying what you write on here.
