SHARON OSBOURNE Defends Egg-Throwing Incident: 'A Bit Of Egg Isn't Gonna Spoil A Rock Show'

Sharon Osbourne spoke exclusively to Kerrang! magazine ( web site) last week (as reported here yesterday) regarding IRON MAIDEN's final performance on this year's Ozzfest tour, during which she cut MAIDEN's power and arranged to have the band pelted with eggs and debris from the crowd. Several more excerpts from the interview follow: Kerrang!: Reading between the lines of [ IRON MAIDEN manager] Rod Smallwood's statement, the unspoken suggestion is that you orchestrated this whole thing... Sharon Osbourne: "Of course I did. I had the PA turned on and off. And look it's not hard for someone to walk into a diehard Ozzfest crowd and say, 'Who wants to throw an egg at a rock star?' Who wouldn't wanna do that? I went out and bought 50 eggs and me and my daughter had a fucking blast. C'mon, it's rock 'n' roll. No-one died. They'll be waiting a long fucking time for an apology from me." Kerrang!: Smallwood's statement describes the incident as "dangerous" and "unprofessional"... Sharon Osbourne: "Well, here's unprofessional for you: our Ozzfest show in San Bernadino is always a big deal. And because it's a special show we wanted to add SLIPKNOT to the bill, which meant that we would have to cut the time from everyone's set so that we wouldn't over-run the curfew. But Monkey Boy ( Bruce Dickinson) isn't having it, and so he's onstage going, 'We won't play 55 minutes, fuck that, we're playing 65!' Now that sounds good to the kids out front — they're not gonna understand about a curfew — but of course if IRON MAIDEN plays 10 minutes more, then BLACK SABBATH get 10 minutes less of their show, and I'm not going to have that on our own fucking tour. "I'd say Bruce Dickinson has been unprofessional in the way he's behaved from day one. He's been complaining that the PA isn't loud enough, complaining about MTV, complaining that my husband does reality shows, complaining about the prices of the tickets, on and on. Fuck him. He didn't even speak to Ozzy once on the whole tour. I mean, Ozzfest ticket prices are expensive but we haven't raised the ticket prices for three years even though, with inflation. All the costs in putting on a show like this rise. If Monkey Boy hated the tour so much why didn't he leave it? I've been paying his wages for four weeks. He didn't seem to have any problem pocketing the $180,000 cheques that me and my husband were writing for the band for every night — that could have stayed in my pocket. Me and my husband built up this tour over 10 years with blood, sweat and tears. I'm not having anyone fuck with that." Kerrang!: The most astonishing thing about all this is that the metal world has always had such camaraderie, such a "one for all, all for one" attitude... Sharon Osbourne: "It has, right? But for some reason Bruce Dickinson seemed to view it as a battle of the bands. He'd stand up on that stage and say that this wasn't the Ozzfest anymore, it was MAIDEN-fest. How fucking disrespectful is that? He's got such an '80s mentality. He's up there saying, 'Fuck MTV and fuck radio and you wouldn't catch IRON MAIDEN doing a reality show' and it's like, 'Hang on, you're a shareholder in Sanctuary, which is one of the biggest corporations in the music business.' He's never said a word about SABBATH either, only Ozzy, so it's personal. We've had 220 bands play this tour over the last 10 years and I've never felt the need to egg anyone." Kerrang!: Did you confront Bruce personally about this? Sharon Osbourne: "No, I didn't want to give Monkey Boy the satisfaction of thinking that he'd annoyed Ozzy. The truth is that Ozzy never heard a single note of IRON MAIDEN's shows, most nights he wasn't on site when the band took the stage. My husband is a prince. And you know what, he had nothing to do with this. He wouldn't stoop to something like this, but I'm a fucking bitch and I have no problem with it. "Let's face it, the guy is a failed solo singer who's gone back to his band after his solo career failed. I don't know how many albums his last solo albums old in England but in America it sold 6,000 copies. Every solo album my husband puts out goes platinum. Look, tell you what, you take a picture of my husband and a photo of Monkey Boy down to (London's) Regent Street now and see who people recognize. There's no fucking question, is there? And that's what it boils down to: Jealousy. Bruce Dickinson isn't my husband's peer. There wouldn't be an IRON MAIDEN if there was no SABBATH." Kerrang!: And you didn't say anything to their management either? Sharon Osbourne: "No, I have no problem with their management. After we did the first show in Boston, I had an email from Rod Smallwood saying that Bruce was concerned that the front rows of the audience weren't really MAIDEN fans and so I kept a couple of rows of seats clear every night so that we could bring in MAIDEN fans in MAIDEN T-shirts to make the band feel comfortable. I was the mug who did this for four weeks. And then this is how Monkey Boy repays me." Kerrang!: From the outside it looked like the tour had been quite amicable, particularly as MAIDEN was stepping in to headline when Ozzy had to cancel some appearances... Sharon Osbourne: "Yes, they were happy to do that when they were given an extra $100,000 a night! We could have had ROB ZOMBIE close the show. MAIDEN are a great band, but the truth is that they have never cracked America, like Ozzy has. At MAIDEN's last two L.A. shows they played to something like 15,000 people over two nights: We gave them a platform to perform to 46,000 people in Los Angeles, and that's a wonderful opportunity. And I knew they were looking forward to it. So I was like, 'Oh, you're really looking forward to being back in L.A., are you?' Well this is where you learn you don't fuck with me..." Kerrang!: Up to this point you're being painted as the "Wicked Witch" here, Sharon... Sharon Osbourne: "I'm as nice as can be to people until they fuck with me and my family. I've always said that. I'm surprised that after everything that's been reported about how protective I am of my husband that anyone would even be shocked by this." Kerrang!: Was there any comment from the MAIDEN camp after the show? It's been reported that Steve Harris apologized... Sharon Osbourne: " Steve Harris came into apologize to Ozzy before he went onstage and he was lovely. I mean, the band are gentlemen, really down-t-earth, lovely guys. Their singer is just a liability and they can't be responsible for that. He's got a great voice but he's obviously been sucking Ronnie James Dio's cock for singing lessons. He goes on about being a pilot and a swordsman and an author and whatever - does he think he's better than everyone else? If he's such a swordsman maybe he should have fenced the eggs out of his way! I should have thrown bananas..." Kerrang!: Your daughter Kelly is on Sanctuary Records (owned by MAIDEN's management): Isn't this going to create tension? Sharon Osbourne: "What, they're gonna drop her because she threw a fucking egg? I don't think so. What's Kelly gonna do, walk up to Monkey Boy and ask for an autograph because he's been such a big influence on her musically? Ask if she can do a duet on 'Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter'? Fuck off." Kerrang!: Rod Smallwood's statement brings up another point which is that regardless of any personal fueds between the two camps, the people who really suffered where the people who bought tickets for the show. Sharon Osbourne: "Come on, a bit of egg isn't gonna spoil a rock show for someone standing at the back of a 46,000 strong crowd. Everyone got a show they'll remember for the rest of their lives. If I was at that show I'd want to keep the ticket stub because it'll go down in history." Kerrang!: Doesn't this kind of incident make you think, 'Fuck it, I just don't need this grief anymore'? Sharon Osbourne: "No, not at all. Because he's not here anymore so it's fine. He can go back to Chiswick and wash the peanut butter out of his hair and sit in the pub and talk about having a wank. But he'd better watch out that he doesn't run into my son at Reading. Jack would give him one kick in the head and that'd be that. But you know what the irony is? Jack wouldn't know Monkey Boy if he fell over him in the street..." Kerrang!: Saying things like this could make this run and run... Sharon Osbourne: "Not for me. We have Ozzfest shows to do so I'm not thinking about this anymore. Bruce Dickhead doesn't exist to me anymore." Oh, and I still don't understand why the fuck she would do that do Maiden if 5/6 of the band were the nicest guys, and their crew fantastic. Makes you wonder why she would fuck over their crew and the band by dragging their effort on giving the fans a good show down. I mean come on, if Maiden decided to play the entire set although they were supposed to cut 10 minutes, then its the BANDS DECISION. Its not like bruce dickinson forced the rest of the band or the crew to keep on for 10 minutes!

who would actually play Ozzfest next year that would be some kind of draw? BLS has there spot reserved year after year, but who could she get, no one wants to see Sabbath anymore, atleast hearing the same setlist over and over. I don't think Ozzy could play any solo stuff, he wouldn't be able to leave the teleprompter at all. She could beg Metallica to play, but I don't think they would even stoop so low. So who???? Oh great, so for Sharon this is a popularity contest now? Did it veer occur to her thick head that perhaps Bruce doesn't want to be another Ozzy?
Bruce has made it very clear that he values his anonymity and having a fairly normal life. He has turned down many reality shows in UK (see Terrorizer magazine from earlier this year). He says he is glad the tabloid press largely ignore him cause his life is too boring. Whenever he appears on TV it is only in programmes dealing with his actual interests of aviation.
He is, for all intents and purposes a normal bloke and not a circus freak like the Cuntbournes. I seriously cannot wait till the Osbournes empire collapses.

In the past few years Ozzy Osbourne has shown a record of consistently missing tour dates. It is extremely disappointing to look forward to a show for days, weeks and even months, only to get to the venue and realize the band you want to see will not be playing. Ozzy’s fans have been let down time after time.
When there is a cancellation there is never an attempt to bring Ozzy back to do a makeup show of any kind. Scheduling a make-up show for cancelled or “Ozzy-less” gigs would be the right thing to do by the fans. Give the fans the option to see the show they paid for, even if it is on another date.
The undersigned believe that Ozzy should come back to play make-up shows for dates where he did not perform.

That is really funny. Looks like she is rehearsing for comedy channel appearance. Jack has difficulties with moving around, let alone kicking somebody.
As for solo albums, Bruce’s last three solo albums are better than anything Ozzy did after Diary of a Madman. I just bought remastered edition of Chemical Wedding, it’s really a heavy metal masterpiece. By the way, all the drum and bass part are intact from original release, unlike certain classic albums with Randy Rhoads. And Bruce’s last solo album Tyranny of Souls is really good, it’s not a John Lennon cover, and it really rocks. Fuck the bitch, Up the Irons.

Maiden hasn't cracked in america? bullshit. when i was at ozzfest and maiden to the stage the lawn and pavillion(seats) were literally packed. there was no room to move. and in 1 of her past releases on this incident she said they haven't had a tour like this in 10 years. 2 or 3 years ago they toured america for dance with death with motorhead and dio and played to SOLD OUT CROWDS! but apparently Shitron has no concept of time or history. and to say that they played to 15k when they could have played to 46k ppl is bullshit. cuz again this year i was there and after maiden sabbath to the stage. thats when ppl took off to their cars. the crowds for sabbath were pathetic compared to maiden.
i dont even feel they treated it as a battle of the bands. he was just up their telling it how it is and doing his thing. when i saw them with their DWD tour he said the same shit about MTV and all that.
and wtf is all that shit about recognizing ozzy and him being a huge success. yes ozzy WAS a very successful solo artist before he became a jester. but that relied heavily on Randy Rhoads, Jake E Lee, Sack Wylde, randy castillo, carmine appice. infact without RR ozzy wouldnt have gone anywhere.
so what bruce went back to Maiden after his solo work. who the fuck was ozzy touring with this year? BLACK SABBATH!!! he went back to his old band. and of course ozzy's shit is gonna sell. its the same reason metallica still sells. cuz stupid shits buy anything with the name on it. there's no fucking quality in ozzy's music anymore.

Firstly, she is comparing record sales. Right, Ozzy went platinum with his last album because of his reality show. Bruce Dickinsons albums get no promotion in America, even though they are far better. Again, when Sharon mentioned that Maiden hadn't cracked America, is the woman mad?? Bands like Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer etc, these guys are the face of metal for me. Ozzy has and always will be the face of glam rock and MTV 'not so scary or offensive' metal.

In 10 years time there will be no metal music.

i just wanted to say how great it is to see everyone shitting down on OzzCorp and their bullshit. i mean, since i first heard that "Perry Mason" single, i've been thinking about how retarded Ozzy's musical output has been -- and since then, we've had the Budokhan Live record (yawn), another greatest comp in The Ozzman Cometh (why?), and then a lame original record (ghastly), and then this gay-as-shit Prince of Darkness box complete with accompanying vanity covers disc (tepid). Oh, and that single duet with Smelly fouling a great song "Changes" (godawful).
And of course, on the non-music front, which Ozzy shouldn't even be fucking with in the first fucking place, there's the reality show, the absolutely unwatchable Oprah-style talk show (which got cancelled post haste), this in-development talk show (slated for fall??), Sharon's primitive anti-music management co. (which everyone decries), the arguably worthwhile but potentially awesome OzzFest (which is so wastefully corporate and sucky), shitty mtv-oriented merchandise as far as the eye can see, a lotta lip service from younger bands and Zakk (is this written into the management contract/Ozzfest contract??), and more.
And thankfully, all these releases have done jackshit (pun intended). And after all this egg/pa/usa shit, Ozzfest isn't long for this world either.
So bravo, Metal People. just because they market these hoes to death and flood us with half-assed product, don't mean we are buying.
Wallets are hearby CLOSED to OzzCorp.

Oh Christ, I don't know why I post this because no one's going to read it, but here goes:
First, anything Bruce says onstage, to his fans, is said because that is what his fans expect to hear from him. He probably didn't mean anything by it, but Maiden fans have been basically trained to expect that kind of talk from Bruce, and that's who he's catering to.
Secondly, Iron Maiden is NOT Bruce Dickinson's band, it is STEVE HARRIS' band. And any insult Bruce felt from the situation - I can guarantee you - was nothing compared to what 'Arry was feeling. That was his band, his 30-year-old pride and joy, being embarrassed onstage like that. Steve's a smart guy, very down-to-earth, and he's not going to let that get to him, but still. Maiden fans know this, too. That's why they chant "Maiden!" and not "Bruce Bruce!" He may be the mouthpiece for the band when they're performing, but he does not make the decisions.
Finally, Black Sabbath IS NOT OZZY'S BAND! It is Tony Iommi's band, and is ultimately the reason Ozzy has had any success since leaving them. If it wasn't for Sabbath, there may be no Maiden, but there would also be no Ozzy. But that is irrelevant anyway, because Maiden drew most of their influence from bands like Free, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, etc. However, you have to wonder how the rest of Sabbath feels about all this, and if it's likely that they'll be touring with Ozzfest next year.

Actually anybody who thinks that the successful metal bands aren't Corporate America needs a lesson in making money. Madien is Corp, Ozzy is Corp and there's nothing wrong with being Corprate. Sharon's mouth moves faster than her brain and Ozzy suffors for it. The truth thougth is Ozzy and Siabbath or just Ozzy have out sold Madien on every continent whether you like it or not e just has a ball and chain for his master which is too bad. A really good idea except one thing. If it was not for the Clear Channels of the World these small Metal bads and most of the big ones also would never be able to have a tour. These companies front large sums of money for the bands to survive on the road whether it's equipment, stages and expenses. The bands rip Corporate to the fan to make us feel like their not part of the Corporate world. But when they need things there right there looking for the help they need it's just Hype. As far as the stereo types just stand in line at a metal show and watch how many idiots O.D themselves before the show even starts. Stereo types are not always false and it's to bad but Metal has brought this on ourselves.
P.S. Ronnie James Dio is a master of his craft leave him out of this Sharon. Sabbath with Dio is the best.

I hate Sharon Osbourne as much as any other self-respecting music fan. I also despise what Ozzy has become, and what Ozzfest has become. I refused to go to Ozzfest this year, even though it bosted its best lineup in years, because I do not believe in what a commercialized money-making endeavor it has become. But I cannot agree with all of your remarks.
Though it's unimportant, Zakk Wylde is infinitely more talented than Iron Maiden ever was. Sorry dude, but Book of Shadows, Pride and Glory and every BLS album totally bury all Dickensen and Maiden--and I like Maiden. And I have much respect for Bruce and so on. But more importantly your comments about America are way off. Keep on blaming George W. Bush for all your problems. That's certainly why reality TV and Sharon Osbourne are so successful, right? Actually, not at all. But we all know the world loves to blame America for everything, ESPECIALLY when the President is a Republican.

All, I'm spearheading a project to get an Open Letter to Sharon in Billboard Magazine. Billboard is read by every music professional- labels, radio stations, managers and bands themselves. The point of the ad is to ask for a formal apology for the fans and to raise awareness for the Clive Burr MS Trust.
So far I've got donations from Australia, Great Britain, Scotland, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Portugal and the United States to cover the cost of the ad. We've raised just under half the cost so far. Even a dollar or two can help make a difference, so please consider donating.

Your behavior at the August 20th Ozzfest in San Bernardino was an affront to fans of music around the globe. During the course of Iron Maiden’s set you:
Had people hack into the P.A. system
Recruited people in your organization to throw several dozen eggs at the band
Had individuals rush onto the stage
Held the Iron Maiden mascot to prevent him from joining the band
And had the power shut down four times throughout the course of their set.
Your attempts to sabotage one of your own support bands was juvenile, offensive and dangerous to band and audience alike. Despite these events, which have been well covered in the mainstream press, Iron Maiden continued to perform. They recognized that the fans paid upwards of $150 to see the show..
Whatever feud that exists between you and lead singer Bruce Dickinson should have been handled privately. If you found his actions over the course of the tour upsetting, you should have talked to him, his management or flat out fired the band for the remainder of their tenure with Ozzfest. Iron Maiden are consummate professionals and standup guys. Currently they are having a second fundraiser for the medical costs of a former member who hasn't been in the band for more than 20 years.
Your complete lack of regard for the 45,000 people in attendance that day is shameful. I don't know if the members of Iron Maiden would accept an apology from you, but the fans sure expect one. I'm sure that a large donation to the Clive Burr MS Trust would go a long way to help defuse this tender situation and help restore your client (and husband’s) credibility to the music industry to fans the world over. As such a strong supporter of your own crusade against Colon Cancer, certainly you can see that helping those suffering from M.S. is an acceptable way to turn this negative situation into a positive one.
Any olive branch you can provide in this situation will be greatly appreciated, as a boycott of the tour sponsors and all things Osbourne is something that no one wants.

I was there for Mastodon and Maiden,and like everyone else in the Pittsburgh left during sabbaths set. Boring,dull and lifeless. And Ozzies lip snyching was worse than mille vanilli. It was so out of synch you could hear someone singing when ossie didn't even have the mike to his mouth. Plus he was doing what they all do during lip synch blocking his throat with the mike and his hands so you couldn't see his vocal cords that were not straining. Bruce is and always will be the "air raid siren" and the more you watched Bruce run wild on the stage you lusted for him. Ossie is dead! He couldn't even hold a pen to write a book let alone a sword to fence with. And your son zakk i mean jack? That four eyed little blob will be dead in five years anyway. I am so glad this is the death of the ozz fest. And twice as glad to know Maiden did it in! Lets see what ossie can do on his own. We will all have the last laugh!

iron maiden were never that big in america? ya they never had a top 5 album but most of them charted in the top 15, they sold well over 10 million, and they sell out large arenas, those 2 shows in la with 15,000 people were played in a smaller venue so the fans could be closer, they could play bigger arenas if they wanted, ozzy never sold much more than maiden until the stupid tv show.

BOTH THESE PARTIES ARE FILTHY RICH AND SUCCESFUL, AND MOST OF THE FANS ARE NOT. so what i recommend is, shut the fuck up....bruce and maiden are grown men, with enough money probably to retire on. THEY WILL BE FINE, this incident only gave them EVEN MORE exposure.

After sharon said she was behind the egging of maiden, it got me thinking, what is going on in this world.. not 8 months since dimebag darrell was killed on stage, we have another tradgy, this time the band gets pelted with eggs. I know it was wrong what maiden said night after night. but violence is not the way to get back at someone. i think it ranks up with someone getting on stage and shooting someone. but at least no one died this time... but the securty should make sure the bands are protected from all types of harm. the new ozzfest contract should state: Bands proforming will not put down the osbournes and they need a conter crontract that states : no eggs will not be thrown. I love ozzys music and i love maidens music.. that's what it is... MUSIC if the world went to hell at least we would have music to make the days seem better.and get us through the days. "god gave rock n roll to you"

anyone on here defending clearchannel is a Sharon supporter and prolly an osbourne troller. Anyone making fun of you for demanding your money back, boycotting osbourne products or joining the Class action lawsuit, is trying to use reverse psychology to stop you.
The only thing that Sharon Osbourne fears is losing money. The only thing that will really fuck her over is pissing off clear channel. The only thing that will strike fear into her is sponsors pulling off the tour. this is after all a clear channel event. Do you think clear channel will ever deal with her again if she loses money for them?
If you boycott the tour, the tour goes away. The money goes away.

most of the people hate the BLS fans for their "loyalty" to zakk and thinking they belong to the so called "Doom Crew" (?) And would be willing to suck off Zakk if they have to.
but right now the maiden fans are being the same pain in the ass that those BLS fans were before. They also think they belong to the family, and that they will all individually get a letter in the mail from Bruce personally thanking them for saving him by opposing sharon.

Bruce can't see a shit because his eyes are fucking blurry and he needs a glasses so he can see where is he going around onstage! that is why Sharon and Kelly had to cut the maiden's power and arranged the bands to get pelted with eggs from the crowd!!!!! bwahahahaha!!! Yeah and that is good for metal why? If you think that ALL the bands on Ozzfest suck, then you are not a metal fan. Fact is that they get at LEAST 4-6 good metal bands a year. So if you boycott the tour, Sharon doesn't get fucked, the sponsors and the bans get fucked. You obviously don't understand how these concerts are set up. They only need MINIMAL attendance to break even. Many of the bands labels PAY to be on the tour for the exposure they get.
If next years attendance is down they will just assume it is because of the following:
1) Ozzy isn't touring OR
2) Weak Lineup AND/OR
3) That "metal fad" is dying down
There is no way that the record companies and the media are going to say it is because of Iron Maiden getting egged.
So go ahead, LOL, make it harder for bands to get signed and promoted, and if you like any of the bands on tour, ENJOY FUCKING THEM OVER!!
At the end of the day, BOO FUCKING HOO, Iron Maiden got egged giving them all kinds of positive publicity. THEY ARE LAUGHING TO THE BANK and you morons are acting like the perfect DUMB PAWNS that you are.
so run around with your little boycott ozzfest petitions, you aren't doing shit, except for occupying all the IDLE TIME you obviously have on your hands with a futile and absurd cause.

I didn't know who Sharon Ozz was before I saw Mr Smallwood's comments on the Maiden website. And I'm frankly astonished by this person's lack of any capability for adult reasoning. The reason that bands like Maiden (and Sabbath) have been around for so long is that they respect their fans. Organising an egg throwing, what kind of clown do you think you are? Maiden respect their fans, which I surmise, is the reason why they continued to play. As for Sharon's comments about a little egg throwing isn't going to ruin rock n' roll, maybe thats true, but I think turning off the sound might... Let's not even begin to discuss or argue about how great Iron Maiden truly are, or who's sold the most records (!) but let's try to talk about being an adult, and giving paying fans the right to listen to the music. I respect Iron Maiden absolutely (even more so after this event), and I respect Black Sabbath too, though I've never really listened to much of their music. As for Mr Dickinson's comments, well, as they say Sharon: "The truth hurts."
