TOMMY BOLIN Audio/Visual Rarities Discovered - Aug. 31, 2005
Greg Prato of Billboard.com is reporting that former DEEP PURPLE/JAMES GANG guitarist Tommy Bolin's younger brother, Johnnie, has been working closely with producer Greg Hampton on outtakes from the recording sessions of Bolin's lone two solo releases, 1975's "Teaser" and 1976's "Private Eyes", for future release.

"We've found a lot of outtakes from that era, and they're recorded really well — stuff that no one's ever heard," Johnnie tells Billboard.com. "A lot of the songs are from ['Teaser'] — it's a different take or something. Same song, same day probably, but they're outtakes. Some nights when they were all wacky, they just played all night."

The forthcoming releases are currently dubbed "Master Series One, Two, and Three", and will be mixed in DVD 5.1/surround sound and with bonus video footage. A sample track can be heard at RealBolin.com.

Bolin was one of the most versatile guitarists to emerge during the early '70s, but his career was cut short by a drug overdose after he had opened a show for JEFF BECK in Miami.

- is a nice way of saying fucked up on the drugs that eventually killed him. What a great guitarist - what a tragic loss. Anyone who doesn't know about Tommy Bolin check out Teaser - or anything he did includung his work with Deep Purple - and liten to an amazing guitarist.

I can't wait for these albums...hopefully the unreleased songs are different from any of the previously released CD's from the Tommy Bolin archives. Anyone want to check out Tommy's music pick up Deep Purple's Come Taste The Band, or James Gang Bang, or Miami albums. Plus Tommy's solo Teasar and Private Eyes (PE is the best of the 2). Also check out his website www.tbolin.com for many more CD's and stories, pretty much everything you want to know on Tommy Bolin. His absolute best guitar playing can be heard on Zephyr's Live at Art's Bar and Grill available through the tbolin.com...his guitar playing and solo effects are mind blowin'!

the live album is terrible. Basically from the time Tommy lost the feeling in his left hand and had to have the guitar tuned to a chord and just slide up and down the neck. The guitar playing is horrible on that.
