GUNS N' ROSES Bassist To Join SOUL ASYLUM For Two Shows - Sep. 3, 2005
GUNS N' ROSES bassist Tommy Stinson (ex-REPLACEMENTS) will be joining SOUL ASYLUM for two shows as a tribute to SOUL ASYLUM's late bass player Karl Mueller, who died in June 2005 following a year-long battle with throat cancer.

Stinson recently completed a solo tour in support of his solo debut, "Village Gorilla Head", which was released in July 2004 through Sanctuary Records. The founding REPLACEMENTS member recorded the material for the set in a Los Angeles studio owned by Charles Thompson (a.k.a. Frank Black) with contributions from A PERFECT CIRCLE drummer Josh Freese, his brother Jason Freese on saxophone, CATHOLICS guitarist Dave Philips, and GN'R guitarist Richard Fortus and keyboardist Dizzy Reed.

VELVET REVOLVER SUCKS!!! Guns need to co-exist with STP! Both bands need to realize that they were better off being separate entities! SEX TYPE THING is covered by my band Althazea. We sound like Carcass meets Iron Maiden, mixed with In Flames! Imagine that type of sound, playing Sex type thing!!! Althazea@myspace.com!

I totally agree with Dan Sullivan. Soul Asylum are a freakin' awesome band! If you like pure, kick ass Rock 'n' Roll, be sure to check out their 'And The Horse They Rode In On' album. Killer stuff!

Hang Time rules!

Yea... It's funny the people that don't know Soul Asylum, or think they have one CD.

Little do they know, but that is fine by me. Our own little gem to keep to ourselves.

Dave lyrics are some of the best lyrics ever written!

The REPLACEMENTS are from Minnesota as well (Right?) it would make sense cuz' they are all came from the same scene.

OLDSCHOOL's comments are so true! How does GNR find the time? Gee... Busy bodies!

Yeah, Soul Asylum was pretty cool. As said above, one of those bands that were thought of as a grunge bandwagon hopper or a one hit wonder sort of band but they were decent before and after that Grave dancer's union album.

Last month's Magnet magazine had a great feature on the Minneapolis punk/rock scene back in the 80s. It mostly focused on the Replacements and Husker Du, but Soul Asylum and other great bands from the area were given some attention as well.

I'm a fan of Soul Asylum too and the Replacements....good to see some other folks are too.

I think Tommy Stinson playing bass in tribute is great.

RIP Karl!!!!

He should leave because we all know Axl's GnR won't ever do anything. Buckethead was smart for leaving.

soul asylum was recommended to me by paul westerberg many moons ago when i interviewed him for a friends fanzine. they were a fucking amazing band (as were the mats...almost got crushed as a kiddie at irving plaza at one of their shows in the late 80's). if you don't believe they were good, go to amazon.com and listen to the clips on while you were out, made to be broken, and the horse they rode in on (esp "something out of nothing") and hang time. i wish i could find a good copy of their cover of "sexual healing"...one of the best covers i've ever heard.

Headbangertilldeath, Velvet Revolver are one of the few good real rock bands around. If you think Guns N Roses can ever get back together in the original line up and perform without Axl Pose walking off stage then you must be fucking stupid. Velvet Revolver's album is better than anything Gunners or STP have put out in the last 12 years plus they are fucking great performers. It was meant to be. GNR and STP were great but VR are taking it to the next level.

SA is by far the top 5 non-metal bands to ever tour... these guys are true musicians and could easily play a two hour set w/o relying on rehearsals or a setlist... must underrated out there (or were), the only recognition they ever get is from the hits they had... it's one of the worst over sights the general public has ever made... truly sad.
