HOOBASTANK Singer Slams VELVET REVOLVER

HOOBASTANK singer Doug Robb has told MTV.com that the band's brand-new song "If I Were You ..." , which may end up being the title track of the group's next album, was written from a couple of seemingly unrelated experiences: watching ESPN and touring with VELVET REVOLVER.
" 'If I Were You ...' was really inspired by, um, the NHL strike. Not like 'Oh, I'm going to write a song about hockey!' but watching all that — and going on tour with VELVET REVOLVER — you see all these guys who have so much and don't appreciate it," he said. "They seem to have forgotten where they came from. Actually, let me rephrase that: Four of those guys were the coolest ever, one of them is just in his own world. And I'll leave it at that."
HOOBASTANK's last album, 2003's "The Reason", sold more than 2.3 million copies in the U.S. alone, and the title track was the second-most-played song on radio last year.

HoobaSTINK is nowhere in the same league as VR. I can only imagine though that he is talking about either Matt or Scott. While Matt is a killer drummer, he comes off kind of like a dick and Scott is in his own little world.

while i don't really give a shit about either of these bands, i question blabbermouth's usage of "slams velvet revolver" in the title when they are only technically slamming one of vr, the rest are "the coolest guys ever".
i dunno, this is what starts stupid shit and of course most people here don't even read the articles before commenting (as evidenced by the otep/opeth confusion recently).
it's all pretty gay.

Oh well, back to my point. who the hell writes a song about a HOCKEY strike and Scott Weiland? I wish they would stick to what they know, namely being virgins, playing skee-ball, and sticking bublegum under their desks.
Its too bad they couldn't mine the same feelings (heh heh heh) that they did for The Reason (heh heh heh). Its still the lowest moment in Grammy awards history that this song was nominated for song of the year (sigh).

I think the only reason this story is mentioned here is because it has to do with Velvet Revolver...
either way, I'm not really a huge fan of VR, but I know that hoobastank doesn't come near the ranks of VR and the members in it..
if you're gonna whine and complain, at least have some good music to back it up..

the question here is why bother telling people this in an interview other than to gain negative press from VR fans and the music world alike. This tour ended a little while ago so why when discussing something that has nothing to do with VR do you bash them. This is unprofessional and they should just keep their mouth shut. They were paid well to do the tour I am sure and lets face it you don't have to like the members of the other band as long as they arent throwing eggs at you or cutting your PA. This was a bad move on their part because now they look like a bunch of assholes. Oh well so long Hoobashit.

...the hooba guy is confused... they turned down the opening slot on the axl version of gnr a couple of years ago... so he probably somehow hates anything associated with gnr...
and he didn't necessarily name weiland... i know that (according to interviews) matt has been doing the party/groupie thing in the band while everyone else is married/attached and doing the family thing backstage... so who's to say that matt's not the one being talked about here?
but he DID start out by bashing the ENTIRE group and then caught himself and narrowed it down to one person... so he probably really resents the whole group... i'm thinking that he's probably thinking that bands like vr and audioslave (whether you like them or not - that's not the issue here) are taking away opportunities from current bands like his... guess what? how the fuck Hoobastank got an opening slot for VR in the first place. Shouldn't they be opening for another pop band of their ilk instead of hard rock like VR?
For the record, I still love Gn'R...I like VR and I wish Axl woulda gotten his shit together years ago. Gn'R was the main band that got me interested in heavier music in the first place. When I heard "Appetite for Destruction," it kicked my ass and I had to get further into music that wasn't in the Top 40.
