AC/DC Guitarist ANGUS YOUNG: Next Album May Be A Double
- Sep. 9, 2005
|
|
Guitarist Angus Young told the Hit Parader magazine that AC/DC have written and recorded so much material over the last year that they might seriously consider making their next album release a double disc. "We do have a lot of songs at the moment," he said. "But that's not incredibly unusual for us. We tend to have a lot of material at some point in the recording process, then begin to whittle it down. But this time, we like a lot of what we're hearing, so the idea of expanding things out is not out of the realm of possibility." As previously reported, AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson joined VELVET REVOLVER onstage during their appearance at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday (Sept. 6) for a rendition of LED ZEPPELIN's "Rock and Roll". Check out a photo of Johnson with VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash. In other news, Angus and brother Malcolm Young now each have one of Mackie's new Digital X Bus X.200 recording consoles in their personal studios (located in Netherlands and England, respectively). In addition, they have both specified Mackie HDR24/96 hard disk recorders and completed their updates with a pair of Mackie HR824 Active Studio Monitors in each studio. Undercover News recently reported that AC/DC are among the artists who are said to be planning performances in Australia next March to mark the 2006 Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne. AC/DC's "Back in Black" album was recently certified for U.S. shipments of 21 million copies, tying it for fifth place with BILLY JOEL's "Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & II" on the Recording Industry Assn. of America's all-time best-sellers list. They've written some awesome songs (and some average ones) and always deliver the goods live, I just hope Brian Johnson's voice isn't completely gone for their next album and tour, last time I heard him a couple of years ago it was sounding pretty shot.
Anyone hear that cover of Live Wire with Whitfield Crane on vocals? Sounds so much like Bon Scott it's incredible.

The rest of the band still kicks ass though. Maybe, This one should be an "Instrumental album."

It should be a double album, since it'll be six or seven (if we're lucky) years since their last album, which is by far the biggest gap in the band's history. Also, how often do we get a badass double album from a great rock band? It'd be really cool.

as for worst vocalist...turn on MTV and listen to some of those "bands" and you have prime choice for crappy singers. But if you want actually people that can play music, i might have to go with early Dave Mustaine...

...but I have my doubts that a double album will come to pass. I've heard that from Angus before, in fact, I believe it was in Hit Parader, when they were preparing "Fly On the Wall."
Best that they condense it into one, solid, killer long-player. Then come to Atlanta!
Everyone on this board should go out and buy Back In Black (again) so that it will pass Billy Joel's Greatest Hits on the all-time sales list...

I'm not a gigantic AC/DC fan, although Highway to Hell and BIB are two of the greatest rock albums of all time, but at least i can be sure of one thing: AC/DC >>>>>Magnus Volkov & Burton C. Bell.

Ac/ DC is pure guitar rock, simple as that.
Some say they have done a number of albums that sound the same, but to me thats like saying the blues all sound the same.
When something is so perfect, so simple and so on the money you do not need to change it. Only mediocre music has a short shelf life and/or has to be dressed up with a lot of production.

fucking awesome, thank god for AC/DC!
AC/DC has lasted over 20 years because it is perfect Rock n' Roll, and the only people who say all their songs sound the same are casual listeners who have only heard the singles on the radio, do yourself a favor and pick up Highway to Hell, if this album doesn't put a smile on your face then your heart is black and your soul is dead and you are just too damn metal to be alive or worth a damn to anyone.

Yes. Excatly. BBmouth often (if not always) forget that it's not necessarly quantity, but rather quality.
A song doesn't have to have a 10 millions dollar metal solo to be great. "It's only rock and roll but I like it" fuckers. Didn't Lemmy himself write an ode to the Ramones (which is called R.a.m.o.n.e.s.)?

AC/DC is great. NEVER say all their songs sound the same. Of course they follow a similar style but each song is unique! You cannot say that if you have heard one you’ve heard them all. There is a reason why they have been around for 30 years. They make great Rock N' Roll, and always manage to keep it fresh. “All AC/DC songs sound the same...” that's just stupid. AC/DC Rocks!
Moreover, AC/DC is all about their craft, they have never compromised their integrity, unlike other bands... So, if they decide to put a double album it will be awesome. Come on, these guys know what they are doing, they are the shit, true Rock geniuses.

I'm glad AC/DC always kept their signature sound. They know what they're good at. They make great Rock N Roll music and I wouldn't have it any other way. I think a double album would make up for the 6-7 year wait. But a lot of that material wouldn't get recongized. They could release that material in another 2 years so they have something to keep them around for a while. I'm looking forward to their tour but I'm wondering what's gonna happen with Brian. I think if he trains and practices alot, he'll make it through the tour fine.

AC/DC is going to play at the Commonwealth games in Melbourne in March. You can be sure that they will have released their new album by then. The album will be out by late 2005 or early 2006. The only question is who is producing it. Mutt or George Young? I would love to see Mutt (Hwy to Hell, Bck in Blck, For Those About to Rock) produce it, but with Shania lingering, he may not have the time. Malcolm and Angus have said that they know this has to be a great album and nothing less, hence the long time between albums. Personally, I'd prefer a single album and come out with another within 2 years if they have that much great material. The only issue there is, they would have to tour after each album, and the way they hit the road, that would basically be a back to back tour.
