KISS Legend GENE SIMMONS To Serve As Co-Managing Director Of New Boxing Venture - Sep. 14, 2005
Los Angeles-based BBKO Ltd. has officially announced the active participation of KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons as co-managing director of the company. BBKO is a 21st-century boxing venture that seeks to broaden the sport beyond its traditional ring by infusing it with equally hard-hitting entertainment. The company was originally co-founded, and its business plan developed, by Simmons prior to its July 2005 acquisition by Orbit Brands Corporation.

KISS has broken box office records set by ELVIS PRESLEY and THE BEATLES and continues to be the juggernaut of licensing/merchandising, with over 2,500 licenses.

"Besides being an accomplished entrepreneur, Gene has a canny sense of how entertainment can organically enhance a sports institution such as boxing," stated Joe Cellura, chairman and CEO of Orbit Brands Corporation. "His active involvement in BBKO will fuel the growth of the company in all areas, and we enthusiastically welcome him aboard."

Elvis is still one of the highest grossing celebrities each year and he's dead. Same thing with the beatles, though 2 of 4 are dead. So what 'box office records' are they talking about?

That refers to venues that KISS played at, selling out faster and more seats than the beatles and Elvis did.

Thank you for that clarification.

Now I have a second question. Are these numbers adjusted for affluence? People in the 50s-60 were more conservative with thier money than those of us nowadays.

bigsled, KISS were the first band to surpass the Beatles and Elvis Box office records, something which is no small feat. Sure those records have been broken time and time again, actually every time thos old buildings are retrofitted and more seats added...but that isn't what this article is talking about, KISS did it first, you can't take that away from them...regardless of how much smoke you try to muster up.

The numbers don't refer to the gate recipt, it only refers to the number of seats sold, not the revenue generated...in essence it is all about attendance figures.
