DEAD KENNEDYS: 'Fresh Fruit' Reissue To Include Bonus DVD Documentary

Billboard.com is reporting that the DEAD KENNEDYS' 1980 punk rock classic "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" will be reissued Oct. 25 in a 25th anniversary edition by Manifesto Records with a bonus DVD documentary. A new single-disc version of the band's debut album without the DVD will also be released on the same day. The DVD will include what the label claims is the earliest known live footage of DEAD KENNEDYS performing, as well as new interviews with East Bay Ray and bassist Klaus Flouride (who continue to tour with a version of the band), and others, including Chi Chi, the band's first manager and "Fresh Fruit" engineer Oliver DiCicco. According to a statement, estranged lead singer Jello Biafra "was asked to participate and chose not to."

If the rest of the band were not such jerks about the whole mess from a few years ago then maybe it could be a nice package with Jello to. I am so glad I have the originals On Alternative Tentacles.

The fact that the guys who were in this band are still touring with a different singer is almost as bad as that cover band pretending to be the Misfits. (OK, they aren't quite that bad... nothing could possibly be that bad.) The remasters released on Manifesto Records were released against Jello's will by the remainder of the band... the same guys who sued Jello and left his label because he wouldn't let his music be in a Levi's commercial. What a fucking joke. Don't give them your money, just download it or buy the Alternative Tentacles versions used.

I agree with FredJohnson666 ... Jello is far from the "wronged" guy he thinks he is. In fact, I have nothing but pity for the lot of them.
Together they ruined an archetype in Punk, all over 75 grand. Sure, that's a lot of cash, but I bet Jello has that in pocket change (don't believe me, go drive by his houe) and a slice of that would have bought East Bay Ray a new bike for his courier job (yes, kiddies, a bike courier ... the guy who wrote/played, and made music to launch a thousand garage bands ... went back to being a bike courier).
But the rest of them aren't angels, despite the "lack of funds." The whole issue started over a leaked excel spreadsheet by a fired employee at AT, and Ray/Klaus we're sufficiently pissed off at what they saw, and took advantage of a weakness to bring Jello down to their level.
(sigh) ... that's what i love about punk rock, fight for "the cause" until the bitter end, only to destroy themselves.
I'll buy the re-issue, even though i own the vinyl and the re-issue on Cleopatra, and donate a few bucks by buying the new Evaporators CD from AT, then I'll call it a draw.

Jello Biafra & The Melvins KICKED TOTAL ASS a couple of months back! It was great to be able to witness Mr. Boucher performing with a band on stage, finally! The true spirit of the Dead Kennedys.
Fuck Manifesto Records and the members of the "DK Kennedys".
And fuck the detractors of Biafra who oppose his anti big-business "leftist propaganda" and therefore side with the other ex-DK members. Stick to Michale Graves and his enlightning "conservative punk" (DUH!) philosophy...
