VINNIE PAUL: 'There Never Was Gonna Be A PANTERA Reunion, Ever!'

Former PANTERA/ DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul was recently interviewed by Guitar World magazine for its December 2005 issue. In the interview Vinnie spoke about many subjects, including the possibility of a PANTERA reunion prior to Dimebag's death and the status of unreleased video and audio recordings of Dimebag. Among the things Vinnie said: * Vinnie confirmed that he has started a record label that will release a "DIMEvision" DVD and the DAVID ALAN COE/ PANTERA project REBEL MEETS REBEL around Christmas. * Vinnie stated that there was never going to be a PANTERA reunion, even before the tragedy with Dime. Vinnie said, "Let's make this clear once and for all: for any fan out there that believed any of the bullshit said by certain people, there never was gonna be a PANTERA reunion, ever." * Vinnie also informed us that DAMAGEPLAN had songs written and recorded for their sophmore album. Vinnie says he doesn't know what he is going to do with the material. " Vinnie said, "Either I'll have some of Dime's favorite singers sing on 'em and turn them into jams, or maybe Pat ( Lachman, ex- DAMAGEPLAN) will sing on them and it'll be DAMAGEPLAN 2. I don't know yet. Right now they're magic that hopefully someday everybody will get to hear, and as long as I'm around I think eventually they will get heard." * Vinnie also talked about the pre- "Cowboys from Hell" PANTERA albums, Anselmo-era PANTERA albums, Dime getting asked to join MEGADETH, how PANTERA got signed to Atco, Meeting Alex and Eddie Van Halen, and his own musical future. Vinnie said, "I've got to find the right situation." * Vinnie also talked about the tragedy involving Dime. Vinnie had a special request he wanted everyone to hear. Vinnie said, "I have a hard time believeing that some nut job just shot the best friend I have ever had for no reason. So, I'd just like to spread the message to anybody out there, that if you know or hear anything about it, please contact the authorities and let 'em know what you know." that had any kind of major hit has a reunion eventually. They ALWAYS do.
I would not be surprised to see Vinnie, Rex, Phil and some guest guitarist doing something on stage 10 years from now. There is just too much money to be made, and the artists usually can't get any substancial success on their own.
That being said, I respect Vinnie a lot and wish him luck. He's a hell of a drummer and a nice guy. I met him and Dime a week before dime got shot and they were really cool.

Never said PHIL had DIME killed but everything PHIL was saying all over the world gets put in print almost instant and several of his reamrks were pretty hardcore like the DEC issue of Metal Hammer. I don't blame PHIL for Dimes death but I do know he was running his mouth a little to far. Knowing the fuck heads out there that would lick his sack if he asked. I love Phil as much as Dime and Vinnie and REX and this is a huge void in my life but facts are facts and NO ONE can deny that PHIL was saying way too much hateful shit during that time. At the same club where DIME was murdered the exact year before PHIL spewed the word ( N*ger) at least 3 times with all of the security guards being black. That made an ugly scene and yes I was there and it made me feel small. So I can't defend PHIL for his dopehead remarks and most of DIME's camp sees it exactly the same way.

saying there would have NEVER been a Pantera reunion is pretty fucked up, and given the industry, unrealistic. Shit, even Phil said at a Down show here when the crowd started chanting "Pantera", he said "...in due time, in due time...", so he didn't think the tiff would last forever.
I still think there are people who pushed this Pantera feud that were not in the band. Whether it was press like this shitty site, or a roadie, girlfriend, or manager/agent, someone gained profit from this great band ripping itself apart.

Unless he thinks there was some underground conspiracy of people who hate Dime which is rediculous. I mean the dude was a schizo and his mother and the military confirmed that. He also never had any record of associating with Phil being that the guy was a loner. About the reunion comment, I must say that crossed my mind too. I was actually thinking it may be Zach Wylde. They are real good friends and I think that he could do Dime proud.

I saw one of Phil's first shows with Pantera in Arlington. He was all glammed out not "underground" Wear "jams" sorts with flowers on them, I remember asking my friends, " who's that dick ? " He's the new singer of Pantera. Everyone know Phil has been and always a dickhead. Vinny and Dime were always cool. Ever seen the backstage footage of Phil stirring his drink with the dude from Crowbars' cock ? I have . If someone was running their mouth off about your brother needed a beat down or worse and it really happened, you'd probably blame the guy too. The guy was a crazed ex-military loner. Guys like him have killed innocent people before. This is just the first time that someone like him killed at a Rock Concert, and took out his frustrations on the performers. There is no fucking explanation, thats what sucks.

I think the ONLY other person on this planet that can relate to anything Vinnie is feeling would be Alex Van Halen. How many other brothers have had a similar relation to what Vinnie & Dime had???? Uhm.....NONE!!! I'm sure even Alex could not imagine what it would be like to lose your brother, bandmate & musical partner for 20+ years shot & killed right in front of you. It is something so horrific that I don't know if anyone could ever fully recover or "get over it". Cut Vinnie some slack & be a little supportive of his feelings. Thats why he made the comment for some1 to step up with info...
None of us no shit about all the daily shit talk that was done in both camps and how much of that info made it to the others.
We're talking a handful of people, band members, crew, getting wasted , talking shit, things could have been said which justifies Vinnies feelings.
Most people don't know that the psycho fuck was at a SJR show just months before the DimeBag tragedy. Who knows whether or not he spoke with Phil, he certainly wasn't intimated on Dec 8th, did Phil say something to him, maybe drunk, maybe people overheard ( from Phil's camp), just maybe Vinnie heard something like that...
Did Phil kill Dime?... Absolutely not!.....Will Phil forever mourn his slain "brother"?... everyday!... Will Vinnie ever forgive him ....It appears not!
Now the good news:
Vinnie confirmed that he has started a record label that will release a "DIMEvision" DVD and the DAVID ALAN COE/PANTERA project REBEL MEETS REBEL around Christmas.

Music Man Ohio and Lazarou and a few more of you, some have good points. I just think it's awful to say "never". That's a long time. But then, it doesn't really matter now, does it? I think the killer was a nutcase. Vinnie should know that music is the core to some people's souls. When you take that part of the core away, the nut cases can't handle it I guess. I was fuckin hellu sad when Pantera broke up, but grateful that I've seen them and grateful that I have CD's to listen to. They all had a presence in Pantera. Pantera is one of my top "performing" bands - and I've seen a lot. Even with them split up, each member still had their presence. The last time I saw Phil Anselmo was with Superjoint at Ozzfest, and he just kicks ass. It's just fuckin sad. This whole thing. I wish there was a way to torment the killer's soul and he suffers for eternity.

I loved dime's riffs. They were so fuckin bad ass. From Dime's tragic death up till this day even, i can't get my fuckin mind off dime and how great pantera was back in the old days. I have been a pantera fan since i was 14 and it was mainly because of dime's riffs. Oh, and to answer the last person's question about pantera's break-up: Yes, they DID break up, back in 2001. You didn't know that??????

I miss Pantera. Down is ok, so is SJR I guess, but nothing compares to Pantera. I wish this would never have happened. I'm on the verge of tears. Pantera is on of my favorite bands, and like Van Halen they'll never regroup to be the awesome band they were and were meant to be...
