GEORGE LYNCH, TOMMY ALDRIDGE And MICHAEL ANTHONY To Form New Band?
- Sep. 21, 2005
|
|
|
Legendary guitarist George Lynch (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB) is in talks with veteran hard rock drummer Tommy Aldridge (WHITESNAKE, TED NUGENT) about putting together a new project. "We'll see how the sessions go and if everything clicks like we hope that it will," Lynch recently said. "We're looking to pull Michael Anthony from VAN HALEN into the fold as well, and that's also in the works."
With regards to his upcoming solo album, Lynch said, "I have about 8 or 9 new tracks pretty much completed for the new forthcoming record. Mucho guitar noise! It's heavy, bluesy, psychedelic and trance-like. Indefinable stream of consciousness."
On the equipment front, "Design and development of the new Randall amp line is almost complete and the amps sound ridicolous," Lynch said. "There are four preamp modules, and power amp main head, called The Lynch Box. There is also an awesome 4 x 12 with some really cool retro and modern features. There will also be a point-to-point hand-wired head. This should all be finished and available by winter NAMM in Anaheim, California. We are developing a new pickup with Duncan clalled the Super V, which will initially be available only on the new ESP Brahma Super V guitar, also coming out in January at NAMM."

IT IS HARD TO SAY. I KNOW THEY KIND OF GOT ONTO IT OVER A JOKE ZAK MADE ABOUT HIM GOING TO REHAB. UNLESS THEY WERE BOTH SOBER OR HIGH IT MIGHT NOT WORK, BUT I CAN SEE WHERE YOU ARE GOING. ZAK HAS A NICE THICK RHYTHM TONE AND THAT COULD NOT HURT. IS CAPABLE OF REALLY BLAZING IF HE TAKES ENOUGH TIME WITH THE SOLOS.

You get it Waltz! As for Mustaine going back....I think it's good in theory, but is Mustaine really a soloist anymore? Is he cut out to be a lead player 90% of the time. My guess is no, but I am sure he wouldn't pass up the gig. He and Lars could never co-exist. If not Jerry Cantrell, Zakk, or Mustaine my next in line would have to be C.C. Deville...I'm KIDDING! Seriously, I'd go with....Man I don't know! I don't think they would get a hardcore/morbid angel/shadows fall type player. James would want someone sober and more their age and style. I am running out of replacements!!! Final pick....I think Cantrell would get the gig right away. He is familiar with Rob's bass playing, and he knows the guys very well. He's been mainstream. Hell, he even sang on the Garage Inc record with James & Co. I think he's damn good on the wah pedal to. Jerry Cantrell it is!

MUSTAINE IN MY OPINION IS NOT THAT GREAT OF A SOLOIST(RIGHT AND LEFT HAND TIMING ARE OFF), BUT I THINK HE KNOWS THAT AND THAT IS WHY HE ALWAYS HAS A SECOND GUITAR PLAYER. ALSO HELPS WITH LIVE SITUATION. CANTRELL WITH THOSE BOGNER SHIVAS SOUNDS INCREDIBLE. IF THE SPEED IS A PROBLEM, JUST LET HIM WRITE HIS OWN SOLOS.

If memory serves me, I think Zakk gave James a load of shit over St. Anger. Either way, I'd gladly replace Kirk. In fact, I play his parts better than him.
Damn, I 'm good.
OK, seriously. Have any of you heard or played through Randall equipment lately? I had a Randall stack about 12 years ago. I liked it, but nothing - I mean nothing - beats good old tube amps. I love my Mesa. That fucker is evil. Pure fucking evil.

Waaaaaay back in the day, I had a Peavey Reknown. I loved that amp. But, it wasn't until I got a modified 50 watt Marshall head that I was forever changed. Tubes rule and yes Mesa's are expensive. I was lucky though. I got my Dual Rectifier a little over $800.00 used. It's in perfect condition. Sadly I had to sell one of my Mesa cabinets because I'm fucking poor. I still have a half stack though.
Back on topic, I think Tom Keifer would be a great addition to this lineup. Love 'em or hate 'em Cinderella was a pretty decent 80s band. And Tom's got pipes.

along with a lot of potential singer options mentioned above.
With regards to his upcoming solo album, Lynch said, "I have about 8 or 9 new tracks pretty much completed for the new forthcoming record. Mucho guitar noise! It's heavy, bluesy, psychedelic and trance-like. Indefinable stream of consciousness."
That a formidable cacophony of stylings...definetly piqued my interest.
As for the Randall's.. I've gotta RG 800 half, gray carpeted, Cowboys, Vulgar Dime era..and the fucking thing crushes! My lead half is a hotrodded Marshall head through a Randall 4x12. I love the natural chorusy tone the Jaguar speakers put out. Mesa's kill too, had a Mark 4 for a while. Tupe amps can be a little tempermental and pricey, but once they're dialed in they're well worth it.

Cantrell can't replace Hammett, James don't won't to be around a drunk, and never played through a randall. I play a line 6 xl head , not bad for solid state. tube amps act like spoiled bitches for the money you pay for them.

Alex Skolnick, period.
I used to think about this back when Metallica was good. Back then, it may have worked???? I never was quite satisfied in Kirk's playing, which was probably due to James and Larz's control of the band, who knows?
I think at that particular time, Master's era, Alex would have been a great fit.

Ps. Tommy, Mike, and George are great musicians as well as great people as well. Mike isn't the most talented bass player but he's solid. Hell, they could get Sammy Hagar? Half Halen?
I see you guys talking about great amps but no one has mentioned VHT. If you havn't tried one, I do suggest it. My buddy is very happy with his Genz Benz amp head as well. Those are a couple alternatives to Mesa and Bogner. There's always Soldono?????$$$$$$$?$?$?$?$?$ I play bass so I play SWR (SM400 Head, Crown CE 2000 and SWR Megalioth. I will be giving the new Genz Benz bass head a try since reading an article in Bass Player.

Jerry Cantrell in Metallica? Ri-i-i-ight. Nope.
Lizzy Borden as singer in Lynch's new band??????? Dude, Lizzy Bordon's not even a singer - he's a clown fronting a band no one gives a shit about.
Mike Anthony is EXTREMELY talented - and he's smart enough to know what to play and, more importantly, what NOT to play. Labeling him untalented because he's plays basic stuff is beyond stupid.
To the stool that suggested William Hung - unless that was a joke, please kill yourself.
BLEMISH106131 - it's gotten to the point where one doesn't even have to read your post to know it's stupid. don't take this the wrong way, but you're an ass of the first division.
