KISS To Continue Touring Without Any Original Members? - Sep. 26, 2005
Launch Radio Networks reports: Is an all-new KISS on the horizon, one that doesn't have any original members? It's possible, according to the band's manager. According to the New York Times, KISS manager Doc McGhee "has been toying with the idea of recruiting an entire band to...don the band's famous makeup." McGhee said, "KISS is more like Doritos or Pepsi, as far as a brand name is concerned. They're more characters than the individual person. I think (new members) have a legitimate chance to carry the franchise."

KISS singer-bassist Gene Simmons doesn't necessarily disagree with that idea. He told Launch that the concept of original members isn't widely held by fans, and it isn't really accurate anyway. "There's no question that there's a core of fans — five-10 percent, my sense is — who believe in original members," he said. "And yet, when you look at original members, THE BEATLES are not original members — Ringo is not an original member; the STONES — barely. You know, they've had so many members come and go, but it's the STONES; and AC/DC's aren't original members; and VAN HALEN; and JOURNEY...you go down the list of every — almost every band you can think of."

If you don't have an original members? Doesn't it become a tribute band at some point? But what happens when those guys want to create new music? Does that music become music of that band? Or is that music for when they do something different? I don't think there's a band out there that hasn't had a lineup change for some reason or another. Unless the band is brand new. Also, at what point do you consider members original members?

Another forever debatable topic.

After 10 years you have all original members, as the rotating 5th member on guitar player was never considered and official member with the exception of the current player being Steve Smyth. If I am wrong, correct me.

And then we can watch as this retarded idea crashes in flames! And we can all share a huge laugh together.

Whoever said that about the tribute bands is dead on. If this is their idea, they should just start putting out Black Diamond or Strutter or one of those KISS tribute bands as "KISS".

And, then, like I said - enjoy the hilarity!

KISS is NOT a band. It is a commerical for Honda and Pepsi.

Mick, Keith, and Charlie... John, Paul, and George... Angus and Malcolm, tho Malcolm was replaced by a nephew while he was in detox... Eddie, Alex, and Mike... and....

Chiam Wicz and Stanley Eisen. W/o those two, Kiss becomes a tribute band. Hell, they already ARE a tribute band w/o Ace!

Dreaming Neon black-era guitarist Tim Calvert (ex-Forbidden) was considered to be their final 5th member - before he decided to quit the band due to conflicting schedules with his family, so to say.
And I won't consider Nevermore the "original" band with a fifth member nowadays.

As for Slayer; after Lombardo, Scaglione, Lombardo, Bostaph, Dette, Bostaph, Lombardo I wouldn't count them either.

Rammstein may come to mind, but their first album was released only 10 years ago, so they are fairly new and no "classic" rock band in a long shot.

As for Kiss: I never cared for this boring band - more image than substance. Give me Thin Lizzy or Queen any day of the week.

U2 originally started as a 5-piece with Edge's brother Dik also on guitars. After a few months he left, however, and the band has been the same ever since- dating back to about a year before their first album "Boy" was released.

Boingo has been broken up almost 10 years, so I guess technically they wouldn't have the original lineup. Also, they started out as "Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo" who were a performing troupe of some 30-odd people. Later, when they shorted down and were strictly a rock outfit, the band included bassist Richard Hatch who left sometime in the mid 80s. Whatever the case, those guys did rock.

Kiss, on the other hand, sucks large donkey cock!

How anyone could still take them seriously is beyond me!!

Now what does everybody consider original members?? From the time a band gets together in a garage or from the time their first album is released?? I consider the original band the day there first disc is released. U2 is the only one I can think of. Aerosmith and Slayer had different people at a time but are now back to original members. The Beatles would be also. Since they did not release anything with Pete Best.

And there are tons of tribute bands that have the act down pat - there's a reason none of them are doing arena tours. Doc McGee needs to get over the fact that he's fat.
