SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, THE GERMS, DEAD KENNEDYS: More L.A. Show Details Revealed - Sep. 26, 2005
Attention, old-school punk rock fans: SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, THE GERMS, THE DEAD KENNEDYS, MARKY RAMONE and FLIPPER will join forces at the legendary Grand Olympic Auditorium as the "Waking the Dead" show on Saturday, October 29. Doors are at 5:30 p.m.

In an unprecedented move, these punk rock luminaries will share a stage in a bona fide old school show at a venue that is known for holding the best damn punk rock shows in Los Angeles back in the day.

None but the DEAD KENNEDYS have played live in years. Co-headliner SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, the premiere skate punk band, have only played in L.A. for the "Lords of Dogtown" movie premiere in the past five years. Formed in Venice, CA during the early '80s, the group's leader from the beginning was outspoken vocalist Mike Muir. The outfit specialized in vicious hardcore early on — building a huge following among skateboarders, lending a major hand in the creation of skate punk.

The other co-headlining act, THE GERMS, broke up 25 years ago after the death of its singer, Darby Crash. GERMS guitar player Pat Smear is also known for playing with NIRVANA for their "unplugged" work, and later with the FOO FIGHTERS. Actor Shane West ("E.R."), who is playing Darby Crash in the upcoming feature film about THE GERMS, will sing with the original GERMS that night. West will be living a dream come true. He has previously played in several punk rock bands, and will now actually front the band he’s idolized.

The DEAD KENNEDYS are icons of punk rock. Hailing from San Francisco, they commanded the world of punk rock in the late '70s/early 80s as a politically important and influential force. Representing the East Coast, the last remaining original Ramone, Marky, will play a set comprised of RAMONES songs with his band. Opening the show will be San Francisco-based FLIPPER, who has only played two shows in the past ten years, both benefits for iconoclastic New York punk rock club CBGB.

The legendary Grand Olympic Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles housed most of the higher quality punk rock shows to come through town in the late ‘70s and ‘80s. Not many shows are done there anymore. And, since it has recently been purchased by a Korean church group, it is doubtful there will be many — if any — more punk rock shows held there after this.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster at $26.00 each.

This is so wrong on so many fronts.

1) The Germs? Not a chance. More like the band who plays the Germs in the movie.
2) Marky Ramone ... the drummer ..... not quite the same with out he rest of the band.
3) DK's and Suicidal .... well, okay .... but really .... this has so much potential, but it will stink anyway.

Too bad ... (sigh) .... now if the Bad Brains were on the Bill ....

Suicidal Rules! And that's all you need to know if you're into ST and you know Mike will kill.

The Germs thing looks like a publicity stunt for an upcoming movie. Nice that the music won't be lost and exposed to a new generation. Also, not too many people get to play with their idols although their probably old enough to be Shane's parents by now and just how many originals are left. More of tribute. Long Live Darby.

Dead Kennedy's will be tough for everyone to swallow without Jello and the guy whose filling in has a very tough job but as long as East Bay Ray is there, it might be okay.

Marky Ramone was just the drummer. How this is going to come off will be interesting but I saw the Ramones and this couldn't come close even with a serious effort.

TSOL and Flipper are the wild cards. They'll have the luxury of blazing through 30 minutes before anyone gets there and only the loyal will show and their the one's who they have to impress.

Since we're on the subject, why didn't they recruit the most underrated punk band on the west coast, The U-Men. It's about time for those guys, the original Seattle grunge/punk pioneers to be make a resurgence.

In Sum, other than Suicidal, this is West Coast Punkers wet dream come true that will do okay and expose some of the younger punkers to hear the music that made them spike their hair or pierce their nose. Also, how about the Adolescents. They have a right to be considered too.

I'd rather see Suicidal alone or just with an up and comer pure punk band but whatcha gonna do.

1. The Germs - Darby's dead.
2. Dead Kennedys - Jello's no longer with them and wants nothing to do with them.
3. Flipper - Ist one of them dead as well?

No, thank you.

Hey why not have The Doors play, with Val Kilmer singing? He played Jim Morrison in a movie too! Half of Flipper is also dead, and BTW- Marky is NOT an original member of The Ramones- that would be Tommy, the original drummer. Damn, why not just add The Drifters or the Coasters to this show, or maybe the new KISS with no original members?

was better than the SPEEDKINGS as far as my opinion goes, although I devote my eternal respect to each and any RAMONE member, live or dead, until the day I die.

DK well the frontman is gone so that can't be good, right?

Suicidal. Need to say more? They rule. "I saw your mommy and your mommy's dead" Motherfucking right.

Marky is NOT the original Ramones drummer. That was Tommy.
Tommy is still alive, and HE is the only living ORIGINAL Ramone.
Marky was in the band the longest and definitely made a HUGE niche for himself in the legacy, but he is still not the original.

A guy who is playing Darby in a movie filling in... Hmm...
Wonder if he sucks as bad as Darby did?

Dead Kennedys without Jello Biafra? Well... no thank you.

OK- I am bitching about this show, but would still like to take that trip down memory lane.

Too bad there's no original lineups, though. DK is THE best punk band ever. Without Jello, they'll still rule but it will never be the rel deal. ST seems to be a band that will never die regardless of lineup changes. They always fucking bring it. Plus, any Ramones is good Ramones. I'd love to see this show.

The DK's do not exist without Jello - this is the band that was trying to sell Holiday in Cambodia for a Levi's commercial or some shit. Complete poseurs. Support Jello and the Melvins projects, they are great. Plus Flipper without Will cmon........
