QUEEN Guitarist Says Band Won't Do Next 'Rock Star' Show

Launch Radio Networks reports: Some people are wondering whether QUEEN will be the next band featured on the "Rock Star" TV series, but Brian May says forget about it. On the official BrianMay.com website, the guitarist wrote, "Ha! Apparently they are voting on us being in the next show?!!! Ha! Ha! Can you imagine? I don't think so! For any number of reasons...so don't bother voting for us, folks!! I mean, REALLY!!! (as Fred would have said!)."
QUEEN has toured this year with BAD COMPANY frontman Paul Rodgers on lead vocals. They recently put out a live album called "Return of the Champions", and a DVD is on the way. Two U.S. shows will be played next month, and the group will do a proper North American tour next year.
"Rock Star" producer Mark Burnett, the man behind "Survivor" and "The Apprentice", told The Edmonton Sun that QUEEN and VAN HALEN are among the bands who need a frontman, but he stopped short of announcing either one as doing the show. Burnett also said the show could wind up putting together an all-new group.
INXS used the show to pick J.D. Fortune to be their frontman. Their first single is "Dirty Vegas", which Fortune sang on "Rock Star" a few times, and it will be available on iTunes next Tuesday (October 4). A new album called "Switch" will be released November 29, and a tour will star in January.

Even though INXS found themselves a decent frontman in JD Fortune the whole concept of "Rock Star" just can't work for all bands. Least of all Van Halen and Queen. The former should've had Mike Vescara, Seb Bach or Jeff Scott Soto fronting them 5 years ago and that window of opportunity's already closed on JSS in my humble opinion. The latter's doing a good job with Paul Rodgers but who can really recreate what Freddy Mercury started?
The new INXS song's called "Pretty Vegas", by the way.

As far as INXS goes, J.D. Fortune may try, but he will never EVER recreate the same magic that INXS had with the late Michael Hutchence. Michael will forever be THE voice of INXS.

MexxiKill: JD Fortune, who actually had the balls to compete with a song he wrote instead of doing another song cover like the other contestants versus the blonde guy from Illinois with no personality and the Australian guy with his lukewarm cover of Peter Frampton's "Baby I Love Your Way"?

He's doing a fine job with Whats left of queen. Of course he isnt freddy but who is? No one. Paul is Paul and he's doing a good job. I agree with KULL 100%. the fact that some of you kknow exactly what happens on this ceappy reality show really says a lot. You're gay mostly.

What killed me about this show was watching the surviving members of INXS sitting there like they are all hot shit passing judgement on others. Were it not for this show they would have been playing clubs to less then 100 people. Without Hutch these guys are worthless. I predict the new album will flop and their new singer will bolt quicker then a border crosser.

I hate to admit this, but after seeing the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert, one guy that could fill his shoes as both a frontman and voice is George Michael. George isn't a favorite of mine by any means, but he kicked ass on that show and blew the competition away. His style, vocals, presence and songwriting would be a nice addition to Queen.

We had a big discussion a while back on another Music Message Board I go to, and many of the readers and posters went out to get the DVD of the concert to see for themselves. Within a few weeks, we all pretty much agreed on the face that George Michael would be a perfect fit for Queen

Brian May is very smart and has common sense which many rock stars lack. Reality TV is horrible and makes the country look very stupid(I live in the U.S.). They should stick with Paul Rodgers which I'm sure they will. He's not trying to be Freddie and he's being himself. That's why the band is called Queen and Paul Rodgers. Plus, he's a good singer and like Kull said Paul was one of Freddie's favorite singers. He's an excellent choice so stop complaining.

I remember that concert very well. My brother also had a copy of it and I remember that George Michael blew everyone else away. His vocal stylings and presence probably came as close to Freddie Mercury as anybody.
I also recall that there was some talk that he was supposed to tour with the band. Apparently it either didn't pan out or was just a rumor. Regardless, the guy would probably be a perfect fit.

Come on! That JD guy is lame as crap. Not only was he a drama queen on the show, but they sucked ass last week performing on Ellen . Michael Hutchence will never be replaced and the remaining wankers in the band are idiots for trying to cash in on this reality craze. It will backfire on them.
As far as Van Halen goes, Michael Anthony would never go for it, and I doubt Alex would either. Especially with the Gary Cherone fiasco.
You have to give credit to Page and Plant for not trying to capitalize on the Led Zepp name after Bonzo passed away.
