DISTURBED's 'Fists' Tops BILLBOARD Album Chart - Sep. 27, 2005
According to a press release, DISTURBED's third album, "Ten Thousand Fists" (Reprise), has debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard Top 200 chart with sales of 238,000. This marks the band's second No. 1-charting album, after 2002's "Believe" slammed into the top of the chart (with first-week sales of 284,000), building on the momentum of their triple-platinum debut "The Sickness".

"We've always done things our own way and to have our efforts saluted by our fans is really the ultimate reward," said DISTURBED in a joint statement.

The dramatic arrival of "Ten Thousand Fists" coincides with the Top 5 active rock single "Stricken", of which frontman David Draiman has noted: "It's about those moments when someone comes into your life and it's almost as if you've been afflicted with a disease you can't get rid of. Devastating and debilitating." The band filmed the song's video in an abandoned Los Angeles hospital with director Nathan Cox (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MARILYN MANSON, KORN, LINKIN PARK, STAIND). It is highlighted by dynamic performance footage of DISTURBED interspersed with a wide range of stirring images.

The buzz on "Ten Thousand Fists" began in July when the band made the song "Guarded" available on iTunes. Although "Guarded" wasn't officially released as a single — the track was offered to specialty metal radio shows — it vaulted into the Top Ten at Mainstream Rock radio as a result of popular demand. In addition, the album's title track was featured in EA Sports' mega-popular "Madden 2006" football game. Rock fans also got a taste of "Ten Thousand Fists" ahead of its street date when the band debuted songs from it on a frenzied North American summer tour that ran from August 3 to September 18.

Next up for DISTURBED is a headlining position on the Jägermeister Music Tour. The first leg launches November 4 in Minneapolis, with the band playing multiple nights in intimate venues throughout most of the 32-date trek.

I LOVE MUSIC ALL KINDS (EXCEPT BRITTNEY SPEARS, ASHLEY SIMPSON CRAP) BUT DISTURBED IS A PRETTY GOOD BAND. NOTHING LIKE FLOYD, ZEPPELIN OR SONGS THAT WILL BE CLASSIC BUT THEY'RE OK AND YES DRAIMEN, EVEN THOUGH I DON'T LIKE HIS VOICE, CAN SING DESPITE THE MONKEY NOISES HE THROWS IN OCCASSIONALLY. I THINK THEY REALLY STEPPED IN UP ON THIS ALBUM. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. YES THERE ARE SOLOS ON THIS ALBUM....BACK TO YOU BOB....

Is ok, but nothing super special. They are pretty 'nu-metal' in my book, but that's still cool. At least they are playing poppy heavy tunes and not electronic fabricated crappola that makes me vomit.

All in all, I wouldn't use their CD as a coaster or frisbee, but possibly give it a few listens, then let it collect dust.

Theyve said time and time again they are gonna do what they want and I respect them for that. Where the hell is all this fucking bitching coming from? It sounds like alot of people are very jealous of Disturbs success. Too Bad "insert band" isn't at the top of the list, blah blah blah....

All I know is the new cd is a "rock sledgehammer" good tunes great riffs, and a few tasty solos. And please stop labelling music, that is stupid. Rock is Rock, Jazz is Jazz, and Metal is Metal.

It seems alot of you dirtbags have a very vague description as what constitutes Metal. Some think you have to scream like a little boy being assfucked by Michael Jackson to classify your band as metal in todays society... others like myself think a mix of melody and aggression are the key elements.

As stated earlier in this trend, Disturbed are in no way the greatest thing since Old School Metallica, but they are unique and have their own sound. This is more than I can say for the other generic mainstream sound the plagues the radio air waves (i.e Nickelback,Staind, and Seether).

Lastly; regardless of your taste or definition of waht metal is, I think this is a good thing for the Hard Rock/Metal Genre. At least Disturbed has 230,000 fists in the air. If you are a fan of Disturbed pick up "ten thousand fists" you will be hard pressed to find any negative feedback... taht is if your a fan.

I'm not big on Disturbed. I liked them a little like five years ago when I was sixteen. It sucks when this generic stuff goes to number one when you got new albums from Between the Buried and Me, Avenged Sevenfold, Darkest Hour, etc., etc. They're the ones who deserve it. Just like Immortal Technique says "Cause if you go platinum, it has nothing with luck. It just means a million people are stupid as fuck."
Word. Oh yeah, the new Coheed and Cambria is REALLY good. I'll probably get hated on for saying that, but I like to listen to VARIETIES

That is why they sell so many records. Look at the payola scandel that just took place with Sony. If you took an excellent band like Opeth and played them on Mtv and radio 24/7 they would sell more records. I think Opeth are fine where they are though...I know when I talk to somebody and they mention Opeth, that they were introduced to them on their own terms, meaning they weren't shoved on to them by corporate giants such as Mtv. Mtv have no right to even call themselves music television anymore. I do think we are going to see and hear better music though, there is always a change in the scene about every decade...where more revelent artists are given the exposure they deserve. For example, Devin Townsend's accelerated evolution should have gone platinum in the usa. That album should have been huge and it went unoticed by the masses. It's a shame when such artists are overlooked just because they don't fit a certain trend. I really miss the diversity of the early 90's.

Bought the CD last week not expecting much, and was surprised by how much I liked it. The "Land of Confusion" cover is pretty tuff. Most of the songs are pretty good. And yes I was surprised to hear a few solos on the album.

Honestly I'm just happy that a heavy rock band is on top of the Billboard chart. I get so pissed off seeing acts like 50 Cent and Mariah Carey ruling Billboard. Anybody who can knock off a rap album on the #1 position is alright in my book.

Have you listened to this album ?

I'll be Guessing, NO !

If you listened to it You might just find that it is not bad, not bad in the least.

skymetal - I feel the same way about solo's I love them in music but sometimes in DISTURBED's case I dont see really where between all their Tempo and Rhythm changes ang driving riffs they will squeeze them in ... If you listened to the Disk you might understand what i'm saying, They are a completely different animal this band - thats also what appeals to me about them - they dont give a fuckl and do what the fuck they feel is right.... DAN DONEGAN ... EXPLAINED EXACTLY THE OTHER DAY, WHY - HE DOESNT PLAY SOLO'S IN DISTURBED

At least if and when I bash a band I would have listened to the shit first ... I will never just flat out Diss... well maybe in KORN threads .... But there I cant help myself....

I'm not saying you're dissin them flat out cause I see you say you liked the 1st album.....

But give this a spin ... not bad

Excellent post!

Disturbed is unoriginal corporate pop music fabricated for adolescent and easily manipulated simpletons.

I don't necessarily want my favourite artists like Opeth or Devin Townsend to top the charts worldwide, but they at least deserve to make a living through their art and to play bigger venues than they actually play. It hurts and pisses me off to see those artists struggle to survive.

That would've been a better headline title. Maybe KNAC will run with it instead. Given that their competition was Kanye West and 2 so-so albums by Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones it sounds apt.

Most of the people commenting on this band have no idea what original music is. Some of you talkof these guys being mainstream, or sell outs, or just throwing music together to try to sell albums. There is nothing out now or in the past that is anyhting close to what these guys produce and do it with just 3 members. To answer one of the putz', I couldn't wait till this album came out. I am more than pleased. I thought their first album was the shit but this blows that one away. This is nothing less than original music. Throw away your NSYNC collection and step up!!
