SEPULTURA: New Album To Feature Horns, String Section
- Sep. 30, 2005
|
|
Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA spent much of Thursday (Sept. 29) at Trama Studios in São Paulo, Brazil recording a horn section for one of the songs on their upcoming CD, "Dante XXI", due in early 2006 via SPV Records. Check out a six-minute video clip containing footage from the sessions at this location (Windows Media, 22 MB). This week they will also record the cellos, more guitar solos and finish the vocals. SEPULTURA had previously used Trama Studios to record the "Revolusongs" EP, which contained cover versions of songs from such acts as MASSIVE ATTACK to HELLHAMMER to JANE'S ADDICTION, and was included in the limited-edition digipack version of 2003's "Roorback". Working under the watchful eye of producer Andre Moraes (with whom they've previously worked on various Brazilian film soundtracks), SEPULTURA's follow-up to "Roorback" will be "like a metal soundtrack for a movie, based on 'The Divine Comedy', but making a parallel with the days and situations we live today," says SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser. The ten or eleven songs that will make it to the finished album are all based on the epic poetic masterpiece "The Divine Comedy" written by Italian author Dante Alighieri in the early 14th Century. The three main components of "The Divine Comedy" are Dante's descriptions of Hell, Purgatory and Paradise. In addition to the 10 tracks that are set to appear on "Dante XXI", SEPULTURA are recording two cover songs — JUDAS PRIEST's "Screaming for Vengeance" and SICK OF IT ALL's "Scratching the Surface" — which will be released as single b-sides in the future. SEPULTURA will release a live CD and DVD, entitled "Live in São Paulo", on November 8 via SPV USA. Recorded on April 3, 2005 in front of a rabid hometown crowd — 90 percent of which was reportedly decked out in SEPULTURA gear — the band played a "best of" setlist with tracks that go as far back as 1985's "Bestial Devastation" all the way to 2003's "Roorback". "Live in São Paulo" will be released on CD and DVD as two separate packages. More information is available at this location.

that Sepultura would have sounded like the way soulfly does now if Max was still there. Listen to Roots, it could have been the 1st Soulfly album. Even though no one likes them anymore, they're still a solid band. Against was a great cd, Nation Sucked, but Revolusongs and Roorback are both great listens.

I am so sick of arguing with stupid fucking dickheads that merely dismiss Sepultura because max dickwax left:
like dirtytaint fucknut the great, sounds like_ Kull _ hit you where it hurts, doesnt surprise me in the fucking least asshole, hows yo mama?
Personally I prefer Sepultura now more than ever !
DEREK RULES !!!!!!!!
SEPULTURA !!!!!!!
And what other band would be as' intelligent as this to make a concept album on one of the greatest pieces of literature in history?
Most of the stupid bands you listen to probably have never even heard of "The Divine Comedy", probably not unlike the stupid people who just dismiss them because max dickwax is gone.
like dirtytaint and Thyne the fucking morons.

I'm good with anything Sep or Soulfly came out with so far (though I have to admit there's a lot of rappin' on Soulfly 2).
Another hard Sep album? Well, if they do it, why not.

The album sounds interesting, but I'm much more excited about the Sick of it All cover. But yeah, a Max/Sepultura reunion would be pointless now, since it would just be Soulfly with three different guys in the band. (See Roots) Just because Max would be back in the band doesn't mean they'd be releasing Beneath the Remains II. He's into faux-tribal Korn worship now, and it'll stay that way, even with the other guys around him. Sure they haven't released a really strong album since '93 or so, but Sepultura is a lot better musically (although maybe not financially) without Max in the band. Give it a rest. They could use a second guitar player, though.

"this will not help this bands career. Is in the toilet."
why do you assume that all bands are making music for the money?! these guys play heavy metal! if they cared about any sort of worthwhile "career" they'd be playing more commercial music. the fact of the matter is that nowadays, Sepultura is releasing music only for their own sake, and they aren't trying to win anyone else over.

Sepultura is still a good band, but you are all fooling yourselves if you think anything they release is as good as "Arise" or "Chaos AD". Those are two of the best metal albums ever, and although Sepultura is good with Greene, nothing Soulfly or Sepultura has done now compares to the classic material. Soulfly is better than new Sepultura, anyways, but I also liked "Roots".
I may be an asshole, but I don't think any of them have released anything St. Anger-like, but it's just foolish to say that Sepultura now is as good as they used to be.
