Former NIRVANA Drummer Steps Out - Oct. 1, 2005
Greg Prato of RollingStone.com is reporting that Dave Grohl is not the only former NIRVANA drummer who can play guitar and sing. Chad ChanningGrohl's predecessor, who played on the band's 1989 debut, "Bleach" — is launching a new project called BEFORE CARS, which sees him supplying lead vocals and rhythm guitar, as well as drums.

He has been recording tracks for a full-length with "Bleach" producer Jack Endino, who convinced Channing to take the plunge. "Jack was saying, 'You really should do it,'" explains Channing, who is backed by guitarist Paul Burback and bassist Andy Miller. "It's basically a compilation of stuff I've written over the years — a lot of the songs go back as far as 1984. For a while, I didn't feel like I was ready. But then I just thought, 'It's time to get this together.'"

Although not NIRVANA's original drummer, Channing was the first to appear on record with the band during their Sub Pop Records glory years. Along with guitarist-vocalist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, he played on the group's first-ever release, 1988's "Love Buzz/Big Cheese" single, as well as "Bleach" and the 1990 EP "Blew".

I've got Bleach in my cd collection. A pretty cool record, it suits the boring winter days perfectly...snow falling and Kurt screaming and mumbling jibberish, what a way to create x-mas spirit..

pffft. so what? Nirvana sucked anyways. Dave Grohl fucking sucks ass. Foo Fighters had maybe one or two good songs and that was way back when the band started. so fucking what?
ugh, Nirvana pisses me off the exact same way as Motley Crue, GNR, Black LAbel Society, etc.

FUCK NIRVANA, FOO FIGHTERS, DAVE GROHL.

Does thou protest way too fucking much? Seems like your very familiar with the subject of living with mommy and jacking off. What are you, an expert? Must be because your on this board too ass wipe.

Anyways, seems like those royalty checks from the box set are actually doing some good instead of paying for a worthless stint Courtney Ono is spending in rehab. You know she's going hit up her dealer on the way home and pick up some pills, some blow and a quart. I digress.

I too own both versions (SubPop & Geffen) of Bleach and Chad is a fine drummer whose retooled his musical approach to his music and putting his stuff down on record. Will be an interesting venture worth checking out.

I still maintain IN YOUR HONOR is really 1 good album disguised as an average 2 disc set.

I personally don't mind Foo Fighters. I dont listen to Nirvana at all. But Foo Fighters... well I could never be a fan. But they are alright.

As for Dave Grohl, the man is a really down to earth guy. He isnt inflated with the whole rockstar lifestyle. Dave, punch Zakk once more in face. Thanks.

Whoever thinks Grohls sucks has no idea what makes a great songwriter. The fact that Molotov listens to Meshuggah is enough evidence to say he doesn't understand melody. Meshuggah sucks ass. Same downtuned boring disguised nu-metal bullshit.

Bleach was a good record, not as good as Nevermind or In Utero but still good. I always wondered what happened to Chad.

is the most over-rated album in the last 15 years, however Nirvana is not as annoying as...uugh......god-awful Pearl Jam. I really got into Nirvana 7 years ago when I was going through that teen angst bullshit, but now that I've grown up, all my Nirvana cd's are rotting away in some dumpster. While most people will say Bleach is their best album, IMO, Insecticide was their best cuz Grohl put his drumming skills to use.

Anything that is downtuned, has no melody, is boring as fuck, and requires little musical talent fits into the nu-metal basket. I learnt time signatures at fucking primary school, that isn't complex. Meshuggah aren't important to metal or rock music in general. Whether you like it or not, Nirvana paved the way for many great bands including Machine Head and Fear Factory. Nirvana got its roots from true hard rock bands like Zeppelin and Sabbath. All Meshuggah gets its roots from are little fanboys like yourelf sucking dick backstage at Ozzfest.

I completely forgot that Insecticide was not even a studio album, I guess that other drummer whose picture is in the booklet must be Chad Channing. If this Chad Channing fellow played drums on most of the tracks then he's a good drummer.

'nirvana sucks and all the music in the 90s til this very day sucks
so fuck you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

Got to be one of the most pathetic posts ever. With exception of nu-metal, the 90's kicked the 80's arse when it came to music. All the bands that came out had more talent, melody, and aggression then all the worthless 80's crap such as motley crue, poison, cinderella etc etc. Bands in the 90's, such as, (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Weezer, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Rage Against the machine, QOTSA, Machine head, Kyuss, Sepultura, oasis, radiohead, blur etc etc etc etc), had more integrity than and sold their records on the way sount than their stupid Fucked up trashy image. HAHA and look at this decade as well its been shit for music nothing new or original has come its been a big worthless piece of shit this decade for music. yeh bands like the foos have been about etc but new bands have come out to start something, what i think killswitch engage broguht something new to peoples ears this decade, wait am talking shit a cow, pig and a horse could make better than that pish

Actually, I don't think that's the case. You can't compare apples and oranges.

Although you can compare MESSUGGAH with crap cause it's in the same leagues.

Opeth > Chimaira > Crap on a plate > Messuggah

Why do people call Meshuggah nu-metal? They've been a band since '87. Meshuggah do have melody in their music, it's just not the main part. Meshuggah are all about the rythms, what's wrong with that? If you're not into that that's fine, but don't say they suck because they sure as hell don't! Ask all the bands that look up to them...

I second a big FUCK YOU blabbermouth kids!!!!!
