Rare Photos Of Late Drum Legend COZY POWELL Posted Online - Oct. 3, 2005
DEEP PURPLE bassist Roger Glover's official web site has been updated with a set of photos taken in Hong Kong in 1979, including some memorable shots of late RAINBOW/BLACK SABBATH drummer Cozy Powell. Check them out at this location.

As previously reported, Eagle Records has set a November 1 U.S. release date for the new DEEP PURPLE album, "Rapture of the Deep". The band spent five weeks at a Los Angeles studio earlier this year recording the follow-up to 2003's "Bananas" with producer Mike Bradford. The album is described by keyboardist Don Airey as "a lot heavier" than "Bananas". "We recorded it in the same studio that use to be used by KORN, and it's got a wonderful sound," Airey said. "It's got a real, immediate drum and organ sound. I was really happy working in there."

"Rapture of the Deep" will be the group's first release since their split with the EMI label.

This was one of Rocks premiere drummers. A true gentleman and a great drummer. He's probably sat in on just about every major rock act or had a serious influence on them.

Thank You Roger for some great pics. There should be 1000s out there.

and i'm sure that if he were still alive, you would rip om him like you do everyone else unfortunate enough to still be with us.

and after seeing so many of your negative comments about most everything (in general), i can only deduce that you sir have no idea what a gentleman is.

I didn't know Cozy Powell died? How long ago was that? It had to have been quite a while ago........
I think I saw him only one time, perhaps twice.
Wow, I'm sad that I missed that.

RIP COZY

Unless they want to hurt themselves, they need to cut out any and all references of Korn.

Wow! Seeing those somehow tied into my theme of listening to Rainbow, Sabbath and Yngwie Malmsteen today just for his drumming. RIP indeed.

Yeah, Cozy co-produced the TYR album from Sabbath which is an awesome CD. How many drummers move up to the role of producer? Not many. RIP

Cozy sadly died in '98, near Bristol, South West England, in a car crash. No other car was involved; he simply went off the motorway at 90mph. He lived near my town in Berkshire (bit closer to London), and everyone who met him (I didn't) says he was a gentlemanly guy who liked walking and animals.

Best drummer after Ian Paice, I say.
