GEORGE LYNCH Pays Tribute To RANDY RHOADS On ICARUS WITCH CD - Oct. 6, 2005
George Lynch, the LYNCH MOB/ex-DOKKEN axemaster best known for his fiery, melodic guitar leads and stylish post-Van Halen proto-metal rhythms on such classics as "Paris Is Burning", "Breaking The Chains", "Into The Fire", and "Dream Warriors", is making a rare special guest appearance on the new album by young traditional metal revivalists ICARUS WITCH. When "Capture the Magic" is released this October 25 on Magick Records, fans of Mr. Scary will be treated to his Randy Rhoads tribute as Lynch burns the frets on ICARUS WITCH's version of the OZZY OSBOURNE classic "S.A.T.O."

WITCH bassist Jason Myers became friends with George while living in Los Angeles and was thrilled when Lynch agreed to play on the group's debut album. Myers says, "George has been an inspiration to us for so many years. While our music is darker, we try to carve creative melodies into the rock in the style he perfected over two decades ago. Lynch is famous for his flamboyant shredding solos, but the guy also wrote some of the most important riffs and hooks in the history of American metal!"

S.A.T.O. is a classic tune that features a trainload of Randy Rhoads riffs. It's a killer tune and I hope George does it justice by burning the hell out of it! I wanna hear it.

randy rhoads was by far the best guitarist ozzy ever worked with. the worst by far is zack wylde. i was listening to no more tears today..and thinking how much this guitar playing blows monkey testicles compared to blizzard of ozz and diary. its like night and day.

Lynch has always done right by Randy Rhoads. Lynch put out Will Play For Food a few years ago in which he coverd Mr. Crowley & Flying High Again. They actually have a long history of playing on the same bill when Randy was in Quiet Riot, George was in a band called The Boys. I can't imagine how cool that would have been hanging back stage watching those two trade riffs. Definitely fly on the wall stuff.

Thanks George for keeping the love alive.

LONG LIVE RANDY RHOADS!

I fucking LOVE that song. The middle part of the solo is so God damn happy. :D It's no too complicated and it just works perfectly. R.I.P. indeed Randy.

Quick side note, in my humble estimation, George's solo on Tooth and Nail fucking kicks so much ass. Bad ass song, bad ass solo.

That is all.

GEORGE ALMOST HAD THE GIG FOR OZZY, BUT OZ WENT WITH JAKE. HE EVEN TOOK LYNCH OUT ON THE ROAD FOR AWILE, BUT DID NOT LIKE HIS ATITUDE. (THIS IS PER JAKE E LEE INTERVIEW.) PROBABLY DOESN'T MATTER, BUT KIND OF COOL BIT OF INFO IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY HEARD IT. LYNCH IS A GREAT PLAYER AND KEEPS GETTING BETTER OVER THE YEARS. (HIS STRING SKIPPING LINES ARE INSANE) HAVE NO DOUBT HIS VERSION WILL BE INCREDIBLE.

String skipping is when you play a riff/lick/run consisting of notes that are not on adjecent strings. It's takes extra hand-eye co-ord to skip a string. It takes practice to do it leggato.

Lynch is by far my favorite shredder. His leads are so technically insane and evil sounding, and he does a great job of blending scary blues licks in the middle of all those pyrotechnics. he's one of those guitarists that you definetely rcognize the first second you hear him. unmistakable tone and technique, and a HELL of a lot better than Wylde.

is an excellent and possibly unprecedented cover song to choose...

I have every confidence That "Mr Scary" will do it justice.

Earth moving shape-shifters of rock guitar. Players that defined a style, attitude, and trend in their respective decades and beyond.

60's= JMH, Clapton

70's= Iommi, Page, Blackmore

80's=Randy Rhoads, Yngvie

90's= Dimebag

21 century?

Ther are many other names not stated but deserving, everybody can draw their own conclusions and I'd bet most would fit..

Their seems to be a rebirth in "shred guitar" this decade with a ton of players stepping up to claim the solo mantle of supremecy.
Time will tell which ones stand up to the test.

at this point Lynch had a nice tone back in the 80's and I'm a big fan of all that Dokken stuff but now his tone is all smooth and girly like.(that's right girly like) So yeah he'll prolly do a decent job on S.A.T.O but I don't know his sound might not help that much it's too smooth now at least it was the last tiime I heard him play. Zakk on the other hand, his tone will cut your head right off. but Zakk has gotten lazzy from the booze or the years or the glory but theres passion in his playing still. That's why I fancy John Sykes caause hees a nnasty guitar player with apiercing tone and Joohn even makes anasty face when hee plays it's llike just fucking mean allover (grindding teeeth) sso Technique is one thing but pasion comes across on tape too boys....and girls

THE REVERAND HIT IT RIGHT ON. STRING SKIPPING ALOWS YOU TO PLAY WIDER INTERVALS BY SKIPPING OVER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF STRINGS. IT CAN BE TRICKY WITH ALTERNATE PICKING ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU LEAVE ONE STRING ON A DOWNWARD STROKE AND GRAB THE OTHER WITH AN UP STROKE. MAINTAINIG CONTINUITY CAN BE TRICKY. I TEND TO STRING SKIP IN SPECIFIC INTERVALS AGAINST THE ROOT TONE, BUT DO WHATEVER. IT ALSO PROVIDES ANOTHER AVENUE OF PLAYING ARPEGGIOS WITHOUT SWEEPING!

why pay tribute to someone your better than?
randy was so overrated.he was ok and maybe would have been great but he died before he was able to do anything worth while.
i saw him with ozzy before he died and he was terrible. he fucked up over and over you could see the frustration on his face. it was really very sad.and there i was waiting to see this so called great guitar player, what a dissapointment. but i gave him the benefit of the doubt, i thought maybe he just had an off night.then i saw him again a month later... just as bad. and when the tribute album came out it confirmed it, he just wasnt that great or good for that matter.i figure if that was the best perfomance by randy they could find than its a real shame.
