KISS: 'Phantom Of The Park' To Receive DVD Release

KISS' 1978 movie "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park" will finally receive an official DVD release, according to KissNews.de. An exact release date has yet to be announced. An IMDb plot summary for "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park" reads as follows: "The tale of rock band KISS and their efforts to thwart a diabolical plan by mad scientist Abner Devereaux. Devereaux has found a way to clone humans into robots in his laboratory at an amusement park. It just so happens that he plans to uses the KISS concert as a platform to unleash his plan on the world. KISS must use their special powers to stop him."

I was in high school when this movie first came out and thought it was cool to get to see a real rock band on tv and even cooler that it was kiss. remember this was back before eveyone had cable and you only had 4 channels to choose from so it was a big event. anyway except seeing them on tv it was a big letdown as it was pretty stupid,so if it was stupid 30 years ago who would waaste money on it today? and kull sure tv shows in the 70's look lame today but back then they were cool at least kung fu and night stalker were and unless you were gay you watched wonder woman to stare at linda carter's tits not for the plot so ease up as 20 years from now your fav. will seem stupid also.

i know the movie is kinda cheesy. even KISS themselves said it, but if you're a huge KISS fan like me then it's a cool thing to have. it's very funny when you're drunk as hell and partying.

I rarely bother to post comments here, but god damn am I sick of hearing about KISS. Don't get me wrong, I loved them as a kid growing up in the 70s, and I still think their first few albums are pretty classic musically, but for fuck's sake, THROW IN THE TOWEL!!! KISS meets the Phantom of the Park? On DVD? Are you fucking serious? I suppose it's all about the $$$$$$$ for Gene, as usual. It certainly can't be about the film being even remotely worth watching. Good god.

For anyone who might even be remotely interested in this (that doesn't know already), "The Phantom" of this so-called 'movie' is played by Anthony Zerbe. Zerbe has been involved in a couple of big movie projects within the past few years - he played a Starfleet Admiral in "Star Trek: Insurrection" opposite F. Murray Abraham. and also played a high priest of Zion in "The Matrix: Revolutions" opposite Keanu Reeves.
As far as KISS Meets the Phantom, I'm hoping the DVD includes the UK theatrical release, which replaced the 'Scooby-Doo' type background music with actual KISS tunes, and also had several additional scenes that were not shown on the US TV broadcast.

Funny, funny stuff. The "Eric Carr" comment, while very sick and twisted is cleverly funny.
I used to love KISS growing up, but lost interest and respect a long time ago. This movie is silly, but nostalgic at best. The VHS is enough to own to watch for mindless entertainment; don't think I will be buying the DVD version anytime soon. Ace's noises are the best part of the movie. RIP AND DESTROY!!!! Ha!

This movie is where it all began for me when I was 4, so I truely hold this movie near and dear to my heart...no matter how cheesy it is, or how Peter Criss' voice was overdubbed by someone else, and yes the thought of some black guy wearing white face paint as Ace's stunt double is amusing to say the least...This is Super KISS at their zenith, right before the decline.
I remember paul or gene saying that during the movie premier they were so embarrassed by the film that they tried to slide down as far as they could in the theatre seat....yes it truely is that horrible.
It's like an accident, you don't wanna watch, but you have to.

It was the "NBC Movie Of The Week" and even at age SEVEN . . . I thought it was pretty damn cheesy.
I personally can't wait to see just how fucking bad it is. I love all the KISS albums up to and including UNMASKED!! (yes really . . . I was a kid man . . . it takes me back . . . I know it's kinda silly music now but I don't give a shit)
This movie is really dumb but it's probably WAY better than that movie YOU AND YOUR BAND MADE.
Oh, you didn't make one? Yeah.

START RANT
Do any of the bands today think they could have pulled off what KISS did in their heyday? They completely changed the face of hard music and theatrics. All of you haters that have never even listened KISS seem to think that the world was under some kind spell or something. Look, KISS was a breath of fresh air among the boring T-shirt wearing blue jean hippies like Led Zepplin. They took a chance, it worked and made an impact on the world that none of your "current" favorite bands will ever reach. Integrity is something that arm chair experts create while bands like KISS continue to rule. KISS is what they are because of millions and I mean millions of fans who could care less about what all you elitists think. It doesn't make them stupid or lame, they just think for themselves. You think KISS MEETS THE PHANTOM sucks but what band would have turned down such a huge opportunity? I don't know how many of you guys/girls are in bands but what a hell of a marketing/promotion campaign. Ask yourself, would you rather be a superhero rockstar or a superzero day job-having-garage band-notstar-but-full-of-integrity-musician? Even though I think KISS are great musicians and songwriters. The reality is, all bands wish that they could have that kind of long lasting success. I know I hate struggling to promote my band. They still get oppotunities thrown at them. If you think that making money as a musician is wrong then as Gene would say "send all your checks to me". It's one thing to have integrity and it's another thing to be able pay your mortgage by doing something you love. RANT END
PS- when you grow up you will realize that there's nothing wrong with bankrolling your grandchildren way, way, way before they're born.

Yeh Ace got replaced with a Black guy .....sooooo funny....if you look close enough you can tell that the guy is Black, however the "Akkkkkkkk" noises ARE Ace....and he supposedly went through a stage in real life after the movie for a few months when "Akkkkkkkkkk" was all he would say to anyone that spoke to him!!! You just gotta laugh....

while kiss might have been or done some things that no one else has been or ever done you have to admit that they have long since become nothing but a cash cow. simmons keeps milking the cattle that make up the Pi$$ Army. that udders is running dry and it is time for the cow to be slaughtered once and for all name one worth while cd since revenge, then name one cd after the fist 4 or 5 that was truly worth shit before revenge. This was the most watched tv movie of all time untill not to long ago.As for the black guy playing Ace he was in one fight scene as a stunt man and that was it.There was some good concert footage shot in this movie and i'm sure the people at the shows were having the time of their lives.This was kiss at the height of their super stardom.Kiss was the coolest band to exist in the 70's and no other will ever reach what they did.They should release the Animalize live concert on dvd.that way people could see what a drummer Eric Carr was and that singer ain't shit!!!Looking back at what kiss was it's a shame what Gene and Paul have done to the legacy of what was hard rocks greatest band ever!!!

'A Hard Day's Night' was the first rock movie to feature that type of plot line... It's not that the plot worked for The Beatles... It was created FOR and AROUND them... The fact is that every other movie that has come after 'A Hard Day's Night' is ripping it off... But it doesn't work, because none of the bands are as talented, interesting or funny as The Beatles are...
Yes, 'Phantom' is a crappy movie... Ridiculously crappy... Ace was sometimes so wasted during filming that an African American stunt double wearing his suit and makeup had to stand in through some of the "fight" scenes... But hey... It's histerically, even if untintentionally, funny most of the time...
Kiss makes it very hard for fans to keep liking them sometimes, but I do love them... And so more power to them...

SMOKE OUT OF GUITARS(ACE), BLOOD AND FIRE FROM THE DEMONS MOUTH(GENE), A BEAST ON THE DRUMS(PETER), AND A SHINING STAR ON THE MIC!(PAUL). THESE GUYS HAD ALL THE BABES, MONEY, AND WORLD TOURS TO BRAG FOR CENTURIES TO CUM! THE COSTUMES, BOOTS, AND GUITARS WERE SO FULL OF IMAGINATION THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW SOMEBODY COULD NOT APPRECIATE A DVD TO COMMEMORATE AN EPISODE FROM THEIR PAST!
