DAVID LEE ROTH Tribute CD Gets A Release Date - Oct. 18, 2005
Versailles Records has set a November 22 release date for "Just Like Paradise: A Millennium Tribute to Diamond David Lee Roth". The record features some interesting rock pairings, including European rocker Chris Catena teaming up with former POISON guitarist Blues Saraceno on "Goin' Crazy", Italian singer Chris Heaven and ALTARIA bassist Marko Pukkila (teaming up with former DIO guitarist Rowan Robertson and ex-BLACK SABBATH/DIO drummer Vinny Appice on "And the Cradle Will Rock" and LILLIAN AXE singer Derrick LeFevre on "Just Like Paradise"). The album will also feature Terry Lauderdale (HEATHEN) with VAN HALEN tribute band HOT FOR TEACHER performing the VAN HALEN smash hit "Hot for Teacher". According to a press release, this will be the "first, only and definitive" tribute to hard rock's seminal frontman, featuring a mix of the best of Roth's solo work and selections from the 1977-1984 VAN HALEN catalog.

A person's career's got to be in pretty bad shape for them to play on a David Lee Roth tribute.
Although I suppose it makes a little more sense than a Sammy Hagar tribute. Or a Gary Cherone tribute.

And who buys these tribute albums anyway? It seems like theres a new one every week

VH1 Classic is cool because they show videos that have not been seen for years or videos that were never really played the first time around. But my perception of DLR have really changed by watching his old videos, "Yankee Rose", "Goin' Crazy" "Just Like Paradise" and "Stand Up" Back in the day he always had hot chicks in bikinis hanging all over him and my teenage mind would think "Dave must get laid like crazy." But watching those videos now I think "Is Dave gay or what?'' From the way he dresses to his moves on stage and especially the assless chaps. What do you think? Is it just me?

I think Prince used to wear assless chaps, too. And he allegedly isnt gay and gets lots of chicks. And lots of singers move that way on stage...Paul Stanley, Steven Tyler. Shit. I guess you're right. I kind of miss the 80's videos that were just chicks with big hair walking around and getting sprayed with hoses. But maybe having all of the bikini clad chicks was just over-compensation to cover up gayness.

"A person's career's got to be in pretty bad shape for them to play on a David Lee Roth tribute."

I gotta disagree, a band of players that can play Vai, Sheehan, Bissonette, Becker and all of the other great musicians that have been in and out of that band gotta have a decent amount of talent and would doubt this is a low point, and if it is who the fuck cares? Its probably was fun, beats posting on this board bitchin about it.

Even tho Dave doesn't have a great range he is a great songwriter.

Paul Stanley IS Gay, he just is, look at him.

DLR is bi, or so I've heard...I remember one time Rob Halford said that there were many more gay people in very famous metal bands, but it wasnt his tale to tell..

I'm just waiting on the day Kirk Hammet or Kerry King come out of the closet.

that will be fun, very fun indeed.

Roth definantly comes off as a packer, but rumor has it he's hit quad-digits in the number of women he's laid the pipe to.

AGREED!

Plus the added difficulty of trying to be as good as Vai & Sheehan... whoever signed on for this is just asking for trouble.

Still, I'd download the album for free, I guess.

Dave rules, I hope the tribute is as good as his post van halen stuff. You have to have balls to play this shit. Who gives a shit if he's bi or gay or whatever? He's the singer of Van Halen and his songs were better than theirs (after he left).

Sammy rules and dave drools you moron! if they ever do a Sammy tribute you can bet it will be a Sammy tribute and not a van halen one with a couple of solo songs tossed in. how sad is it that his tribute features more songs from his old band than his solo carerer? if I want to listen to roth era songs I put on the cd's and if I wated to listen to his crap I have to dig into my closet or go to the nearest cut out bin at the local dollar general store. good thing he has the radio gig now as that is the only way to hear hs voice on the radio now.

Hagar transformed the greatest hard rock party band into a boring Lawrence Welk ballroom act. The music became something that only Barry Manilow or Neil Diamond could admire. DLR deserves this tribute. The VH sisters are idiot's for not reuniting with the Diamond One.

.. just call Lawrence Welk boring??? Them's fightin' words son! You should make it your business to catch a rerun the next time it's aired. Lawrence Welk had, by far, the most unintentioanlly hilarious variety show in recorded history.

As for Dave...

"'DLR Band' means Dave, Lowery, and Ray. I named it that because it sounds more like a band than 'David Lee Roth,' which just sounds like a person. When you hear 'David Lee Roth'--you think of a person. When you hear 'DLR Band'--you think of a band. Just like when you hear 'Eddie Van Halen' you think of a person, and when you hear 'Van Halen'--you think of David Lee Roth."

Boo-yah, bitches!!!
