'Rowdy' MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE Concert Sends Two People To Hospital, Results In One Arrest - Oct. 22, 2005
Christopher Barrett of the Good Five Cent Cigar (Student Newspaper at the University of Rhode Island) is reporting that The University of Rhode Island will review security procedures in the wake of Tuesday's (Oct. 18) MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE concert that sent two people to the hospital and resulted in one arrest.

"We are concerned about some of the protocols for these events and a meeting has been scheduled for the various parties involved this Friday," URI Campus Police Maj. Stephen Baker said.

He confirmed URI police made one arrest and ejected at least 20 people during the concert for unruly conduct.

A URI police officer arrested Jonathan Lavigne, 19, about 8:11 p.m. when he witnessed Lavigne wrestling with an event staff worker, Baker said. After Lavigne refused to follow the officer's commands, police arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Baker said he was unsure if alcohol played a role in the arrest, but said, "I think it's safe to say there was alcohol involved in some cases."

In an e-mail to the Good Five Cent Cigar, Ryan Center General Manager Terry Butler said in addition to the arrest, two people were transported to the hospital.

"One woman suffered a foot injury. The other individual was a Ryan Center event staff member, who fell ill during the event," Butler said.

Butler said that Global Spectrum staff also distributed three cases of water to apparently dehydrated fans standing near the barricade at the request of the band's security manager and moved the Emergency Medical Services staging area to the event level.

Baker said most injuries occurred in the mosh pit area.

"Our primary concern is also the activity of this so called 'mosh pit,'" he said. "We're more concerned with the way people were getting injured and how we deal with that."

The sad thing is, the band admitted to thinking their fans were fucking stupid, and that they only do it for money and chicks.

They openly admitted this.

This is what's wrong with the music industry in America. They can say some shit like this, and gain more fans in doing so. Can you say fucking sheep?

"Our primary concern is also the activity of this so called 'mosh pit,'"

did I really just read this?

the primary concern should be why is anyone spending money on My Chemical Romance?

my sincere empathy. no one should have to be shoved for smearing another's eyeliner or stepping on one's black toe nail polished foot.

OMG I better not go to a Chemical show I might bend a toe nail or get all hot and sweaty and need a bath. Jesus at Ozzfest I saw a kid get his head split open, laugh it off, say "fuck I'm bleeding be right back guys", he goes to the medical station gets patched up and then gets back into the mosh pit. Then another guy get his teeth knocked out, hey he gave me a black eye, we end up being friends by the end of the set. Now you didn't see that make it on blabbermouth, why? Because metallers aren't fucking PUSSIES!!!

These people haven't even seen a real mosh pit. Isn't it funny that you really never heard things like this about Pantera shows? I will guarangoddamntee you they were a LOT more intense than whatever went on with this pop band! I had the pleasure of seeing Pantera 12 times and they had some ROUGH pits going on sometimes.

what a joke. lame.
also, it was a show at a university, correct? well, of course they're going to overreact and not know what the fuck to do. they're campus security most of them working there, they're not going to know shit about policing or patrolling a concert. my school Central Michigan University had fuckin' 311 here two years ago, we had like 4 or 5,000 there, and security was looking around all clueless and overreacting to a band that's even lighter than these guys as if it's so hardcore or whatnot. lame.
i wanna see what they'd do for Slayer, or Lamb of God, or GWAR even!

Yeah, Pantera generated some awesome pits. My fave pit memory, however, has to go to Megadeth on the Clash of the Titans tour. The story: Slayer and Anthrax had savage pits during their sets; said pits happened in the part of the concourse (outdoor amphitheater) that was used for wheelchair seating. After Anthrax's set the police (sheriff dept.) removed everyone who wasn't in a wheelchair from the concourse and made them go back onto the lawn. The sheriff deputies stood in a line to keep the area clear so people could walk through. Megadeth starts. Fans are going nuts. 3rd song- "Wake Up Dead". The crowd charges off the hill, pinning the sheriffs against the railing at the back of the pavillion. Then the fans started picking up the officers and passing them back. Once the cops were removed, the pit REALLY went insane. One of my funniest memories.

blessed be.
