RONNIE JAMES DIO To Collaborate With TONY IOMMI On New BLACK SABBATH Project

Legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio has revealed during an interview with BBC Radio 2's "Masters of Rock" program that he will once again be collaborating with BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi. "At this particular point — if all doesn't fall through, and I doubt that it will — Tony Iommi and I are going to write a couple of tracks together for a project that I think is called 'Black Sabbath – The Dio Years'," Dio said. "So that'll be two unreleased tracks which I'm sure will be interesting to old SABBATH fans, and maybe [even] the new SABBATH fans." Dio recorded a total of three studio albums with BLACK SABBATH — 1980's "Heaven and Hell", 1981's "Mob Rules" and 1992's "Dehumanizer" — in addition to appearing on the classic live album "Live Evil" in 1983. Dio is currently touring Europe with his solo band, which currently includes guitarist Doug Aldrich ( WHITESNAKE) filling in for an injured Craig Goldy. Hands down. The DIO years of Sabbath are definitely the most melodic and haunting records ever made by Sabbath. Dio is great and those Sabbath days with him are simply the most memorable to me. He is so much better than Ozzy as a vocalist and just lends that extra punch to make his and earlier Sab songs sound so much more intense.
I was at their show in Phoenix in like 1982 and they did "Black Sabbath", which, I swear between the sound and lights, I thought the damn floor was going to open up and fucking Lucifer himself was going to start jamming along with the band and take us to Hell with him. Memorable gig too since they scheduled it on Easter sunday and had to move the gig because, well, for obvious reasons the city council bitched about having "any" show on Easter. We all knew it was because it was Sabbath on Easter which was pure evil but you gotta love it. Dio came out and played innocent which was hilarious at the time but it just made the crowd that much more into a great gig.

They will have to change the name but it's interesting all the same. Dio is a lame artist these days and the Iommi/Hughes collaboration was a total disaster. Perhaps the two of them can do a minus-plus-minus-equals-plus-thing.

Some new Sabbath w/Dio would be excellent. However I am interested if Sabbath would par-take on Ozzfest next year if sabbath was to include Dio (since Ozzy has annouced he's retiring from touring his own fest!). That would be cool.
First the awesome Hughes/Iommi cd...hopefully a tour to follow this year. next year some new Sabbath with Dio and a tour.

So....they're going to write a couple of tracks together, yet they're "unreleased tracks"? Huh? Of course, if they haven't written them then of course they're "unreleased" - but "unreleased tracks" usually means tracks left over from album recording sessions. And, since Sabbath's "Dio years" are long over, where would two new songs fit into a "Dio years" scenario? And little Ronnie doesn't really know if it's even going to be called Black Sabbath - he just thinks it might be. Old people are funny.
And yes, Ronnie's getting shorter. People his age start shrinking at some point. Soon, he won't even be able to ride the big rides at Magic Mountain.

That's an opinion. It's my opinion, and the opinion of most Sabbath fans, that despite the fact that Dio's a better singer than Ozzy, Sabbath's best albums were their first four. As I always say - that's what's great about Sabbath - lots of things to like for people of differing opinions.

Saw the Mobrules tour, what a great fucking show! If they get together and tour it would be quite successful. It's got to have Geezer in the lineup or it isn't Sabbath. Did Bill Ward play on Heaven and Hell? I don't know. I think Vinnie Appice played on The Mob Rules tour?
Regardless, great news to hear.
After pulling the plug on Maiden I lost any respect for Ozzfest and Sharron Osbourne.

...for ozzy to reunite with sabbath, back when they first did it a few years ago, that no other incarnation could use the name sabbath (i.e., without all of the original four, particularly ozzy)... i don't know who owns the name at this point, or if they all do and that was a good faith agreement (but didn't bill not get invited till the last minute for this year's fest?)... anyway, using the sabbath name may be an obstacle is all i'm saying...
i'd love to hear new dio/iommi tunes any day though!

Wow - that's like the dumbest idea yet.
So if history repeats itself here's what will happen. Just like before, Dio will pull Sabbath out of the embarrassment of the Ozzfest fiasco this summer - they'll due something respectable - then he'll sneak back into the studio and change shit when Iommi's not there (just like last time) - then Dio will quit again and Iommi will go back down the anything-and-the-kitchen-sink version of Sabbath - which will be no less horrible than it was the first time. What do you bet Tony Martin's tightening up a new wig somewhere?
PS - hey Dude - thanks for mentioning me again at the Treehouse. But I never said Dio and Iommi would never do ANYTHING together. Your vivid imagination remains intact.

I agree the Dio years were more "evil". In my opinion they were the Blackest Sabbath that ever could be. Ozzy is very good, but I like the diversity of the Dio years more. Dehumanizer was a really good album. I also think Born Again with Ian Gillian was one of Sabbath's best EVER.

They don't need to deal with $haron, but she may get us all...again! The only thing she should be paid is to symbolicly 'get burned' on stage (like the evil witch she is), during the encore of the BS set, the best lineup, Dio/Iommi (Godfather of Metal)!

the same shit as in 1980. this isent a war, you dont have to choose sides. sabbath with ozzy was and is the top of the heap. the were the 1st metal band period. but after ozzy left , they found a great replacement in dio. but like now, back then everyone was taking sides. it was ozzy vs sabbath, one or the other. i was one of the few who chose both. in my opinion, the only person out of all the many people to be in sabbath over the yrs who deserves to be considered a sab (besides the original 4) is ronnie james dio. also i think iommi,dio,butler,appice should be allowed to use the sabbath name. calling them heaven and hell is bullshit! they r sabbath. i bet dio/iommi can put out a better album then ozzy/iommi. no disrespect ment to the oz, but dios voice isent shot like his, plus ronnie can write music without asking dave grohl for help. if it isent written by the band performing it, then it isent really sabbath at all. i say hail ozzy! hail dio! HAIL SABBATH!!!
